Axel was next to me in a flash and he grabbed my arm then started pulling me behind him like I was some sort of rag doll. I tried to pull my arm back but his grip was strong and by now he was practically burning my arm.
"Axel, you're hurting me" I said through the pain with gritted teeth and while trying to pull my arm out of his grasp. He didn't hear me or he acted like he didn't cause he kept walking and the burning increased even more.
Cole finally came to help me and when he pulled me away from Axel and hid me behind him, Axel spun around with a flame in his hand and if I wasn't hallucinating there was a tiny flame in his eyes and a sliver of red or orange surrounding his iris.
Cole looked just as scared as I did and that's when I realised for the first time in my life, Axel scared me.
"We need to talk Danielle so tell your dog to get out of the damn way before I burn his face off" his voice was deeper and his teeth were clenched. He had fire floating over his hand so before Cole could say anything I stepped in front of him, squared my shoulders and with the same amount of confidence Axel had, I said.
"First of all, he's not my dog and second, if you try to hurt him I'll make sure you are permanently unable to walk". I made a shard of ice with a little snowflake engraved in it float just above my hand with an ice mist surrounding it reminding him that he's not the only one with powers.
"We need to talk and you being difficult is prolonging that process"
I just rolled my eyes and half replied, half groaned "why do you always want to talk?! Can't you just let me be? I mean you HATE me, shouldn't you be over the moon that you didn't have to deal with me?"
"No, I can't just let you be. Now can we please just talk in private?" He asked with a look of exasperation clear on his face.
Cole was about to say something but I stopped him and pulled him away from Axel. He thought that I was walking away from him so he tried to follow us but I held my hand up gesturing for him to wait there. I got a good distance away from Axel and then started talking to Cole.
"I have to go with him, Cole. He needs an explanation and I want to know why he cares so much, also I'm really sorry for not letting you say anything before."
"No, I get it. He's known you for a while so he wants to know where you've been and honestly after what you told me even I'm wondering why he wants to talk to you but let me ask you one question before you go"
I nodded and said "go ahead"
"Do you want to go or did he scare you and that's why you're going?"
"Don't tell anyone this but yes he did scare me. That's not the reason I'm going though. If I didn't want to I wouldn't"
"Then why are you going?"
"One, cause he won't let it go. Two, cause I will have to talk to him eventually and it might as well be now"
"Okay then I'll see you later? Or can you just go with him after school is over?"
"Oh yeah, I can go with him after school is over!" I said like it was the greatest idea in the world "I'll go tell him now"
I practically skipped over to Axel but the moment I stood in front of him the bell rang and that means I had to talk to him.
I shot Cole an apologetic look over my shoulder to which he replied with a smile and then I looked back at Axel.
"Alright, we can talk. But don't blame me if I seem irritating" I said with a shrug, while keeping a cool, unbothered face on the outside. On the inside I was grinning like the Cheshire Cat cause I was going to be, so annoying that Axel would wish he never met me.
He looked at me with narrowed eyes and said "Danielle, don't you dare try that with me"
"Try what?" I asked, feigning indifference
"Try annoying me on purpose so that I'll get mad at you and then you can get out of the talk we need to have"
"Axel, I am an angel. I would never try anything like that" I placed my hand over my heart and acted like I was hurt.
He just rolled his eyes and started walking away from me. What's with people and walking away from me and then expect me to follow them? Instead of him having to tell me I started walking after him and then he called over his shoulder
"Book a tuk. We're going to my house"
"What's a tuk, Axel?" I asked him like I was dumb.
"Don't be a pain and just book the tuk"
Instead of aggravating him anymore I just got a tuk and when it got to school I tried my best to leave without him but of course he had some sort of tracker on me and was next to me in a second. He was obviously still mad at me since he just got in the tuk without sparing me a glance. I just rolled my eyes at his childish behaviour but then I remembered that I forgot to tell Cole I was leaving. I took my phone out and was just gonna text him but Axel started leaning towards me trying to look at my phone. I shot him an unamused look and scooted closer to the side of the tuk. He just scooted closer to me and I was practically pasted to the side of the tuk and he was practically pasted to me.
"Axel, I would appreciate if you could get the hell away from me" I said trying and failing to push him away from me
"Hmmm....."
I just looked at him unamused again and asked "what?"
"Whom are you texting?"
"Excuse me?"
"You're excused. Whom are you texting?"
"I don't think that's any of your business Axel"
"Maybe, Maybe not." He shrugged and went quiet for a while but then he started talking again "by the way, who was that guy back there?"
"Which guy?" I asked playing dumb again
"Your lackey"
"He's not my lackey" I said fuming
"Well then what or who is he?"
"You're acting weird, Axel. Are you jealous that I'm friends with someone else?"
"Actually no, I'm not. I'm pretty happy you finally got someone to be your friend" this hit a nerve so I kept quiet till we got to his house. He kept poking me and trying to get me to talk but I refused to even look at him.
We got to his house and before he could pay, I paid the driver and then I walked to the gate and waited for him there. If you're wondering why I paid its because I wanted to make him feel guilty.
"You knew I was going to pay. Don't do that again" he said acting like a baby in my opinion
I just rolled my eyes and walked pass him to get to the gate and walked in. The from door was unlocked and an old lady rushed out. She said bye to Axel and he hugged her then she left. Instead of asking him any questions I just strolled in and sat down on the couch but no, Axel couldn't let me be in peace.
"We have to take care of the slight burn mark on your hand. You remember where the bathroom is right? Go there, I'll come up"
I didn't even realise that I had the burn mark since I was preoccupied with other things but now that I noticed it, I had to admit it hurts like hell.
"WE don't have to take care of anything, Axel" I said emphasising the we.
"So she speaks?" He asked acting surprised
"Go upstairs before I carry you there"
I begrudgingly trudged up the stairs and made my way to the bathroom. I sat down and waited for like 10 minutes but Axel wasn't here yet. I got off the counter but just as I was about to walk out the bathroom door he jumped out from behind the door and I jumped back while covering my face. He was laughing his butt off while I was petrified leaning on the wall with my hands covering my face.
"Alright, Elle. Hop on the counter and we can fix that burn"
"No, Axel. I don't want your help just let me be, I'll deal with it later"
"Oh, come one Elle! Just chill"
"No, Axel! Don't ask me to chill! You're acting weird and you're being so bipolar too! What is up with you today?!"
This situation escalated fast and both of us were quiet until Axel started talking.
"Sorry Elle, I shouldn't have scared you but where have you been? And who's that dude you were talking to?"
"Why do you even want to know, Axel? You hate me and you didn't have to deal with me for a month and now you're mad at me for not telling you where I was. What is wrong with you?!"
"I don't hate you" he said quietly
"What?" I asked, utterly exhausted with how this day has been.
"I don't hate you, I'm just not necessarily excited about your existence. I don't hate you though, why would you even think that?"
"Cause just being around me annoys you" I said while rolling my eyes.
"I get annoyed at everyone. Doesn't mean that I hate them"
"Gosh, we're being so dramatic aren't we?"
"We are, we really are.... Lets just take care of that burn mark"
"Yeah, whatever" I said shaking my head in disbelief at how dumb we're acting and how weird this situation is.
"Let me get the stuff we need and then we can talk"
"Don't you need to focus when you're treating a burn wound or any wound in general?"
"My medical skills are amazing. I can do this with my eyes closed" he said as if he was the best thing in the world!
"We're being nice to each other today, aren't we?" I said/asked
"No need for sarcasm, Danielle"
"Lets forgot about it, cool?"
"Yep, definitely"
"Just get the stuff now, Axel. Let's not prolong this process if that's okay with you?"
He left and I just kinda sat there awkwardly until he came back
"So lets talk"
