So, Axel started off with the basic questions like, where have I been and why didn't I tell him. I answered everything he wanted to know but then came the golden question, who was the guy I was with? I tried to stray away from Cole the whole time we were talking but he always manages to get the topic to whatever he wants.
"His name is Cole and I met him in Bora Bora."
"So what is he to you? Friend, boyfriend, acquaintance?" He said boyfriend with a certain tone of bitterness in his voice and a clenched jaw but I just chalked it up to me imagining it, cause why would he care?
"Why do you want to know if he's my boyfriend, Axel? You want a chance with me?" I wiggled my eyebrows at him and smiled in the most mischievous way. Now I know what you're thinking, why would I be teasing him if we didn't necessarily like each other? Well in all honesty Axel and I had a very complicated relationship and sometimes we are mad at each other while other times we joke around and tease each other. The other person is usually very uncomfortable when being teased but that's the whole reason we tease each other.
"Stop being weird" he tells me while rolling his eyes but it's obvious that there is some discomfort lurking within him.
"I'm just kidding, Axel. I know you're not excited about my existence" I said while making air quotes around him not being excited about my existence. He rolled his eyes at me again so I commented about it using the words from a post I saw on instagram.
"Keep doing that.... maybe you'll find a brain back there."
"I know you used to do it. You stopped cause you're scared of the dark right? I mean it must be pretty dark since there's nothing back there"
I scoffed at this and stuck my tongue out at him as if I was a five year old child. He let out a small laugh and we fell into a comfortable silence, both of us pre-occupied with dealing with the mess in our minds.
He finished treating my arm and then put a bandage around it instructing me to not get it dirty or wet and to remind him to change it in two days. I didn't see the need in all this fuss over one burn mark. Yes, it was not tiny but since we had powers we healed a lot faster than normal people and since I had ice powers the burn mark didn't affect me as much. Granted it still hurt a
lot but it was nothing to fuss about and change bandages every two days like I had been in some major accident.
I tried voicing my opinion to Axel but he wasn't having and then told me to go sit downstairs since I avoided his question and that we didn't finish our talk. I refused but as usual he threatened to carry me if I didn't comply and since I didn't want to be carried around like a sack of potatoes I begrudgingly made my way downstairs and sat on the big couch that was next to the corner of the room.
Axel clearly didn't care if he was wasting my time or not cause he took about an hour to come back down and I would have left but he took my phone away after I refused to tell him whom I was texting and since he was convinced I would try to book a tuk or cab and leave when he was not paying attention.
Before anyone thinks I just let him walk all over me and I let him take my stuff away without a fight.. I don't. I did try to fight him on this but he ended up winning as per usual and I was way too tired to deal with his stubborn self so I left it.
I was almost asleep when Axel finally had the decency to come downstairs and I tried to act like I was sleeping but he had already seen me with my eyes open and immediately called me out on this.
"I know you're awake, Danielle. Your eyes were open when I walked into the room" I just stared at him and hoped that a million tiny ninjas would appear and beat him up so I could go back to sleep and get out of this talk too. I wasn't against this talk he wanted to have, he did deserve some answers, I was just too tired to actually converse with people right now and Axel wasn't letting me sleep so of course I wanted him to get beat up by tiny ninjas. Sleep is precious!
"Can't we just reschedule this oh so important talk for another day?" I asked while yawning
"No, we can't. You'll always find a way to get out of it and it's better if we just talk today. I called your mum and I told her you're staying here for the night and don't argue about it, I got permission from professor Snape too"
This would be a really great time for those ninjas to materialize out of nowhere. My mum and Snape were completely fine if we stayed over at the other persons house since its happened before. I've never stayed at Axel's house before but he did spend a great deal of time at my house on one of the school vacations that I just couldn't stop getting into trouble. He did stay other times when my mum offered and it was late or because he was too lazy to go back home but not once have I ever stayed at his house.
"Just go to sleep after we talk" he said it as if it was the easiest thing in the world. Have you ever been so tired that you were practically falling asleep walking? That's how I felt right now except I was sitting. I didn't even know why I was this tired, it's not like I ran a marathon.
"Yeah, whatever. So what are we gonna talk about exactly?" I asked while waving my hand around as a distraction to stay up. I probably looked like I was high cause Axel had this weird worried/confused look on his face but he replied nonetheless
"I asked who the guy was, the one you were with remember?"
"Oh yeah. His name is Cole and I met him in Bora Bora, we're friends" I said emphasising the word friend for the millionth time when I mentioned Cole in a sentence.
"If you met him in Bora Bora what is he doing here?"
"He moved here" I said with a confused look on my face that Axel chose to ignore.
"Why did he move here?"
"Cause he wanted to"
"Okay Danielle, we both know that's bullshit. Why did he actually move here? Is it cause he likes you or do I just have to believe it was a complete coincidence that you met him and he told you he was moving to Sri Lanka?"
"Ugh, gosh. What do you want to know exactly?"
"I want to exactly what I just asked you" he was sitting on the chair right across from me with one leg propped up on the other but he moved to the couch I was sitting on cause he, well, I don't know why he moved to the couch I was sitting on.
"I met him in Bora Bora. Let me finish" I told him when I saw him trying to interrupt me. "He was a part of Talia's group of friends but then we started talking and he told me that he wasn't a part of the friend group for long and that he moved around a lot. We talked more and we hung out for a while and we realised that both of us had a very similar situation when it came to friends so he said he would move to Sri Lanka and-"
"So you're saying that his parents just packed up and moved to Sri Lanka cause y'all had similar situations when it came to friends?" He said similar situations when it came to friends in the most mocking tone he could use and I just sighed and told him to be quiet until I finish.
"As I was saying he said he would move to Sri Lanka and when I asked about parents he said they weren't with him so I didn't push him on it. We hung out the rest of the time I was there and he arrived two days after me" I felt like I was being interrogated.
"When did he make this decision to move to Sri Lanka?"
I was pretty hesitant about telling the truth but if he found out another way we might end up fighting again so I stuck with the truth.
"Ummm.... So don't get mad.... When we were talking on the first day he told me he found out I have ice powers and that he wanted to be friends before he found that out so he assured me he wasn't being friends with me because of that and before you say anything about him lying and that he actually just talking to me cause of my powers you're wrong. We know the capabilities of our powers and one of them is having these gut feelings when we need it and I knew he wasn't and you can't say you're not sure cause I had the gut feeling that all of us have when we need it. Either way he decided on the first day and after that we hung out more"
"I believe you. So does he like you?"
"No, Axel. He does not like me like that in any way!"
"You're sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure"
"Did you meet anyone else in Bora Bora?"
I was about to tell him about Rocky but he asked me if I met anyone in Bora Bora and I didn't meet Rocky in Bora Bora so technically I wasn't lying.
"No, I didn't. Can I go to sleep now?"
"Fine but we're talking tomorrow too." I was just about to argue but he cut me off and said "I want to know how Bora Bora was"
I just smiled at him and got off the couch but being sleepy I almost stumbled and Axel caught me before I could fall. He then proceeded to lift me up and carry me bridal style while I tried to push him away.
"Axel, Let me go! I'm perfectly capable of walking!" he chooses to ignore for the hundredth time today and then takes me upstairs. When we get to his room he practically drops me on his bed and walks to what I assume is his cupboard.
His room is the size of my whole living room, which is not small at all, and its colour scheme was Navy blue and a nice grey and white. He had a four poster bed in the middle of the room and that had a navy blue covering sheet strewn out on the bed and 4 navy blue pillows that were arranged two by two and side by side. I'm not very good at describing things but I'm doing the best I can... moving on. His cupboard was clearly a walk in and he had a chest of drawers to the right of his bed next to the door, there was a couch off to the left side and was placed near the corner of the room pressed onto the wall directly opposite his closet. I haven't seen a lot of walk in cupboards in Sri Lanka but to be fair it's not like I go into everyones houses to see if they have a walk in closet.
Axel came out of the cupboard fully dressed for sleep and he handed me a pair of clothes to change into. I asked him if I could use the washroom and then he literally gave me a condition so I could go into the bathroom. I was not allowed to shower cause I might get sick or something. I agreed but since he has been telling me what to do the whole day I had a shower anyway and got dressed. the clothes he gave me consisted of a blue pair of basketball shorts and oversized blue sports t-shirt. When I left the washroom Axel was leaning on the wall beside the door and he was furious.
"What the hell?! Didn't I tell you not to have a shower?! Are you deaf?!"
"Chill Axel, I won't get sick. Remember it's pretty hard for us to get sick"
"Not impossible though. Just go to my room and dry your hair off"
Instead of annoying him further I went to his room but not before taking the extra towel that he had in his hand so I could dry my hair. Axel came in about five minutes later and did some weird heat thing near my hair that dried it off in seconds and I used my ice powers to send a cold wind through my hair so it wasn't hot. Axel lectured me about how I could get sick for what felt like a whole hour but was just five minutes and then we went to sleep... Tried to go to sleep.
I was about to sleep on the couch since Axel was supposed to be sleeping on the bed and then he started arguing with me telling me I should sleep on the bed and he'll take the couch but I wasn't having it. Eventually both of us tired down enough to stop arguing with each other and try to come up with a solution.
"Just sleep on the bed, I'll take the couch"
"We already ruled that idea out, Axel. How about I sleep on the couch and you sleep on the bed!"
"We already ruled that one out too" he tells me with narrowed eyes. We both knew a proper solution but we didn't want to bring it up. It was quiet for a while until Axel brought up the idea first.
"I guess we could both sleep on the bed?" He said it as more of a question than a statement
"I guess but honestly I'll probably just move to the couch"
"I'll carry you and put you on the bed, Danielle"
"You've got to stop with that threat!" I said while flicking my arms out.
"It works doesn't it?"
"My idea is the only one that we're actually going to do without fighting" it was true that was the only idea that would work out without us arguing and without one of us sleeping on the couch.
I slept on the left side of the bed while he slept on the right. We were both next to the very ends of the side of the bed and before I fell asleep I heard Axel
"Good night, Danny"
"Night, Axel"
