I thought the road would never end, as I glanced at my damaged watch to see the time, it was 9 pm. No more than an hour ago the sky was painted with hues of red, orange and pink, but all the colours had faded, leaving only a matt black canvas with no stars to be looked upon. Other than the darkness, all that seemed to exist was the chilly wind, whose bitterness I could feel through my cloak.
There were no houses nearby. No streetlights. The towering trees blocked out the stars, casting their long shadows across the road. I kept hoping that someone would come along, so I wouldn't have to walk alone. But nobody ever came.
My subconscious fear told me that there was something behind those trees. I desired to go home. Mom and dad must have started worrying about where I was. On top of this, my phone battery had died, just like my legs after walking for 2 hours continuously.
I kept walking along the dark stretch of the road, hoping I would find someone and ask for help. Although I was not sure what I expected to see lurking in that forlorn road.
In the distance I saw a rusty green bench, isolated in the middle of the road. It felt as if it were calling desperately, asking someone to sit on it. My legs had desperately heard its call, as they dragged me towards the bench.
As fast as my legs could carry me, I raced myself towards the bench and sat down quickly. My eyes were forcing me to close them, keeping them awake was my challenge. Although, after sitting on the bench I felt as if I had started losing the challenge badly. I rubbed my eyes, trying to stay alert but no matter how hard I tried, I fell asleep in a few minutes I fell asleep...
I slowly opened my eyes and checked my watch. It was 3 in the morning. The pitch black sky still maintained its position in the sky, as I looked to my left in hope for finding someone.
I stood up instantly, and cleaned the dust on my eye. It was there. The yellow sign on the top was visible in the gloomy night. I took a sigh of relief. I had found a taxi.
I sprinted towards the taxi in joy as thoughts of me being home safely began to establish in my mind. I quickly opened the door of the taxi and made myself comfortable in the backseat.
I closed the door behind me, and looked forward to informing the driver, my house address. Although, as I glanced at the driver's seat there was no one. All the exhilarating thoughts of finally reaching home flushed down. My hand reached for the door handle, as the smile on my face which had just arrived faded instantly.
I reached towards the door but the door handle was stuck. I couldn't open the door! I was stuck! I tried attempting to open the other doors, but all of them were locked. Matters got worse, as the taxi started to move.
How could this have happened ? I pinched myself hard, hoping all of this was a nightmare, and that I would wake up in my bed. It was not a nightmare, I had been stuck in a moving taxi without a driver!
I started to panic and reached for the brake. The brake was not working! Powerful pessimistic thoughts started to take over my brain. I started screaming for help, but there was no one. I felt completely helpless, as I looked forward out the window. We were reaching a dead end!
I commenced taking deep breaths, trying to calm myself down. Although, as we got closer, negative thoughts kept increasing in my brain, probably faster than the speed of light! I shut my eyes as I was not ready to see what was going to happen ...
Moments later, I opened one eye and I saw the car had stopped! Once again, hope was rebuilding inside of me. I hurriedly attempted to open the doors or even the windows and escape from this frightening experience! Luckily the door for the driver's seat was open, I hurriedly got out and ran. I ran far, far away from the car. It was now daylight and finding someone who could help would be a lot easier!!
Just a few miles in the distance, I saw a coffee shop. I dashed to the shop like it was a sprint at the olympics, and when I reached the coffee shop, I was overfilled with joy and excitement. I went inside and ordered a cup of coffee for some energy to my tired and weak body. Soon, two guys came in and started breathing heavily, it seemed as if they had been running for a long time. They pointed towards me and mumbled to one another, "Look here he is, the guy who was sitting in the car while we were pushing it along the road!"
