Christmas Talent Show was on the last day of school and ran a day, so I couldn't see Baxton or Alex all day till after school.
I got to school at 7:30 am to get backstage.
I didn't have much, but they wanted to get done briefs over and done with .
They clasped my hands and wished me luck before grabbing a table.
I headed backstage where the dance and vocal teachers were.
We had some Theater Tech Staff members there too.
They had to wait for the rest of the students to get here.
Once that had happened, they briefed us on how the show would happen.
We had four performances, and the judges would be sitting with us on the last one.
So that was fun.
We'd start at 9am and it would go on.
We were pulled to the changing rooms were we went on about our costumes.
I just had a typical dress, navy in colour.
I didn't wear skirts at school, so this would be new.
Thank gods the teachers bought a decent stool and pedal for me or I would've been done for.
My hair had already been done for me and I didn't wear makeup so I was practically done.
I got back to the area, ready.
I was in the last group of students.
The first two performances went by relatively smoothly, until the third.
One of the girls dropped and smashed her baton.
The teachers had refused to turn off the lights, so she couldn't see the light properly through the glare.
She completely freaked out since it was completely broken and the teachers panicked a little since they did not know what to do either.
I have to give props to her since she improved amazingly.
The last act was the final one of the day.
I braced myself when I was called up on stage.
I could see Baxton and Alex and my AM all in the crowd.
Suddenly, the lights seemed a little bright.
The camera crew seemed to be in the way.
I took a deep breath and started playing my piece.
The keyboard was not plugged in.
Seriously.
Welp.
Second try went more successfully than the first.
I played through the entire thing without hiccups.
Well, almost.
Someone must've unplugged the keyboard because it turned off half way and I did not know what to do.
I panicked but physically froze.
The music teacher turned it back on and I finished quickly and walked off stage, ignoring the whispering from the students.
My stomach twisted painfully.
We took the final bow and the curtain was lowered.
We had to change back into our school clothes.
I walked outside, waiting for my friends.
The ran up to me excitedly and told me that the show was amazing and that I played well, despite the technical issues.
One hand each, we walked home, and I would almost forget about it.
But when I laid down that night, I screamed into my pillow.
