ALEX'S POV
I woke up at seven o'clock to people fighting. I got out of bed, very confused and rubbed my eyes. Slowly walking downstairs, I heard Mom and Max fighting.
"Who were you texting last night? Was it a dude?" Max kept asking Mom.
"It was just Matthew! He's my best friend! Nothing more, nothing less." Mom responded, sounding slightly pissed.
"I don't like it." He said, sounding just as pissed and annoyed.
"Are you jealous?"
"I don't have to be jealous to not like it!"
"Maybe we need a break, Max." Mom said calmly.
"Mom? Max?" I asked, making my presence known.
"Shut up, bitch!" Max yelled, not noticing it was me. "A-Alex. I didn't mean it." He said as he slowly approached me.
- FLASHBACK -
"Shut up, bitch!" I heard Aaron's voice and then next I knew I was grabbed by him. There was a lot of commotion as people tried to get him off of me.
"Alex! Baby!" Mom held me in her arms as I was struggling to breathe. "It's okay, mommy's here. Breathe in.. breathe out.. good job, baby girl." Mom cooed as I was starting to calm down a bit. She was about to put me down but I held onto her.
"D-Don't let go.." I whimpered out as I played with her hair extensions.
- FLASHBACK OVER -
"Alex!" I heard Mom's frantic voice exclaim. "Focus on me." She cooed gently. My breathing was quick and uneven.
"I'm so sorry, Alex. I didn't mean to shout that at you." Max said as he handed Mom my inhaler.
"Max, maybe you should leave." Mom said sternly. He nodded, looking sad. I was going to speak up but it hurt. "Deep breath in and out, baby girl." Mom spoke gently as Max went out of the house. We managed to get me calmed down.
"I-I'm sorry.." I whispered as I sat down in front of a bowl of fruit that Mom prepared.
"It's not your fault, baby." She said as she sat next to me and held my hand.
"But you and Max might break up because of me. He's the only father figure I want in my life." I spoke quietly. Mom gave me a sympathetic look.
"We aren't going to break up. Max and I are just taking a break, baby girl." She pulled me into her embrace when I finished eating.
"Wait! I ate all of that?!" I asked excitedly.
"Yes, you did." She smiled at me.
"I didn't even think twice about it!" I started saying. "Do I look fat?" I asked quietly as I looked at my stomach.
"No! You aren't fat, baby girl. You're WAY too skinny. It's not healthy to be that skinny." Mom replied as she held me and put her chin on my head.
"We need to come up with nicknames for both security guard Max and your boyfriend Max!" I exclaimed as I pulled away.
"Hmm. What do you think?" She asked as we sat down on the couch and turned on the ID channel. I mentally facepalmed and laughed.
"How about we call security guard Max, Maxipad. Then your boyfriend can stay Max!"
"I think that's a great idea." She chuckled and made me cuddle with her. She kissed my cheek.
"Eww! Lipstick!" I joked. She licked her thumb and started to wipe away the lipstick on my face. "No! Stop!" I laughed loudly.
"Shh, the show is starting! I think the hair stylist did it." Mom said, as she continued to point out her theory.
"Well, I think the person waiting for the haircut did it. I mean, look how suspicious he looks!" I reasoned with her.
"You have a really good point, but people never suspect the employee." She replied as she pulled the blanket over us while we continued watching crime shows.
- TRIGGER WARNING -
Three hours have passed and we were deeply engrossed in the crime shows when my demons wanted to taunt me at the wrong time.
'It's your fault that Max and your Mom are fighting'
'You're worthless'
'Weak'
'Go get your blade and cut'
I looked at Mom, debating if I should tell her that I want to cut or just go and cut myself.
"I'll be right back. I'm going to grab Mr. Sheep." I tried to sound casual as I went upstairs. "Come on, where is it?" I asked myself. I remembered I hid it in my phone case. I ripped off the phone case and grabbed the thin piece of metal. Hello, old friend.
I sat on my bed as I dragged the blade against my skin.
"Alex! Max is here and he brought something! Come down and join us!" I heard Mom yell from downstairs.
"Give me a moment!" I yelled back as I used the thin blade one last time. I yelped as I cut deeper than I intended.
"Alex? Are you alright?!" Mom sounded worried. Fuck!
"Y-Yeah! I just dropped something and it scared me!" I tried to control the bleeding. Why won't it stop?!
- TRIGGER WARNING OVER -
"Alex, I'm coming in." Max said as he opened the door.
"N-No!" I panicked and rolled down the sleeves of my hoodie. Just my luck that I happened to be wearing a white hoodie. Way to go, Alex!
"Woah, Alex. Roll up your sleeves." Max said as he dragged me into the bathroom.
"No! I'm fine!" I shouted.
"You're not fine. You're bleeding!" He responded as he grabbed my arms and rolled up my sleeves. "Why?" He asked as he looked me in the eyes.
"I always mess everything up. I deserve the pain." I whispered.
"We'll talk about this later with your Mom. Right now, we have to clean up your arms." Max said. He turned on the sink and held my arms under the water. I was starting to feel lightheaded.
"M-Max, I feel l-lightheaded." I stuttered.
"Shit, uh. Demi, can you come up here and bring us a water bottle and a snack!" Max called out. There was no way I was getting out of this one.
"Here. I got the-" Mom started but stopped when she looked at my arms. "What happened?! Did you harm yourself, baby girl?" She asked as she came to help us. I hesitantly nodded as I held back my tears.
"M-Mom, I feel dizzy." I said quietly, before I almost fell to the ground.
"Woah, woah. Let's get you to your bed." Mom said as she caught me. She helped me over to my bed as she examined the cut that I accidentally cut deep. "It doesn't look like it needs stitches."
"Here's the water." Max said as he sat next to Mom on my bed. I chugged the water, as I was pretty thirsty.
"Why didn't you talk to me, baby girl? You know you can talk to me. If you don't, I might have to send you to rehab.." She spoke gently.
"I-I'm sorry! Okay?! I don't want to go to rehab! P-Please don't make me!" I screamed as the tears I held in started streaming down my face.
"Calm down, baby." Mom cooed as she pulled me into her embrace. "I'm not going to send you to rehab, but you have to be honest with me. Okay?"
"O-Okay. Can you both sing to me?" I asked quietly as I stayed in Mom's comforting arms.
It's like, he doesn't hear a word I say
His mind is somewhere far away
And I don't know how to get there
It's like all he wants is to chill out
(She's serious)
He makes me wanna pull all my hair out
(She's always in a rush and interrupted)
Like he doesn't even care
(Like she doesn't even care)
You, me
We're face to face
But we don't see eye to eye
Like fire and rain (Like fire and rain)
You can drive me insane (You can drive me insane)
But I can't stay mad at you for anything
We're Venus and Mars (Venus and Mars)
We're like different stars (like different stars)
You're the harmony to every song I sing
And I wouldn't change a thing
She's always trying to save the day
Just wanna let my music play
She's all or nothing
But my feeling's never change
Why does he try to read my mind?
(I try to read her mind)
It's not good to psychoanalyze
(She tries to pick a fight to get attention)
That's what all of my friends say
(That's what all of my friends say)
You, me
We're face to face
But we don't see eye to eye
Like fire and rain (Like fire and rain)
You can drive me insane (You can drive me insane)
But I can't stay mad at you for anything
We're Venus and Mars (Venus and Mars)
We're like different stars (like different stars)
But you're the harmony to every song I sing
And I wouldn't change a thing
When I'm yes, she's no
When I hold on, he just lets go
We're perfectly imperfect
But I wouldn't change a thing, no
Like fire and rain (Like fire and rain)
You can drive me insane (You can drive me insane)
But I can't stay mad at you for anything
We're Venus and Mars (Venus and Mars)
We're like different stars (like different stars)
But you're the harmony to every song I sing
And I wouldn't change a thing
But I can't stay mad at you for anything
We're Venus and Mars (Venus and Mars)
We're like different stars (like different stars)
But you're the harmony to every song I sing
And I wouldn't change a
Wouldn't change a thing
When they were done singing, we all stayed in my bed, cuddling with each other. Right now, I wouldn't change a thing.
