Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Eden slipped out of her mother's grasp and went to her old room to get a backpack. She could hear her begging her to stop, to stop and calm down, but she wasn't going to let things just disappear, she wasn't going to give up, if there was even a slim chance of finding Alek she would. She didn't know exactly what the hell she was going to do but she knew she was going to try to be as prepared as possible.

Putting on a sweatshirt over her shirt, she took the rest of her change of clothes, some equipment to make a mini medicine cabinet, some dry food and a bottle of water, she knew it would not be easy to even get there. Without thinking twice she added a knife to her backpack, she hoped she would not have to use it but knew that not carrying a weapon would be a serious mistake.

Leaving through the door, her mother tried to grab her one last time crying for her not to leave, that broke her heart but they both knew that if something shone in Eden it was her stubbornness. With a last and heartfelt hug, the young woman said goodbye to her mother, repeating over and over again how much she loved her and asking her forgiveness, if this was the last time she saw her mother, she wanted her to know that nothing that happened from that moment on ahead was her fault.

Once on the street, she began to walk towards the old road, perhaps she had been too rushed in her decision, perhaps she had not planned well how to go to Oviedo, but it was too late to turn back, if she returned and her father had already returned it would be impossible for her to escape.

Her mind started doing triple mortals trying to come up with a plan that didn't end with her dead in a gutter or lost in an unknown forest. She knew she was being slightly exaggerated, but as sweet as it seemed, she couldn't try to bribe the first one who crossed her path. And thinking about it carefully, if her mother had told the whole truth, surely there would be soldiers guarding the division of cities.

As if it were a sign from heaven, at the end of the street she could see a bicycle area of the town hall, theoretically it was not allowed to leave the city with them but taking into account what her mission was, to be caught with the bicycle was the least of her worries. Feeling renewed her will, she approached the post and looked in her wallet for her old citizen card, it was with the plastic raised, discolored and with strange glue stains, but it would do.

- Step one achieved- she encouraged herself under her breath

There were still 28km ahead of her, but at least she already had a vehicle, she looked around and a second idea came to her mind. She could take the Bus, that would save her a lot of kilometers, she would get off at the last stop and then she could do the rest of the journey by bicycle.

Buying a ticket, she waited almost an hour for his transport, taking the opportunity to eat a hot sandwich and a drink at the nearest bar. Back at the station and with the bicycle still by her side, she reviewed the plans of stops that were offered for free, discovering a block of old maps, the place itself was already old so it was not surprising that no one who worked there had withdrawn the pamphlets.

- Too lucky

Taking one, she positioned herself in the queue to enter the alsa, once seated she began to visualize her route by drawing each kilometer to travel with a pen. She would never have imagined how complicated everything was for her without a mobile, if before she missed it even more now.

Knowing that the second part of the journey would be extremely hard for her, the journey on the bus was being equally torturous. Feeling like she was sitting there while her partner was fighting for her survival. Moments like this were the worst as they allowed her mind to go back to its old ways. Recalling the words of her mother, Alek had not appeared on the lists of her city, but nothing told her that he could not be on the lists of another city. Her boyfriend was very smart, and she knew that if she went to her family's town, they would know about it. Maybe he had gotten tired of waiting, maybe he had rebuilt his life in another place.

Shaking her head she dug her nails back into both arms, she couldn't break down, if she let just one of the voices in her head enter it would be her end, and she needed to be completely focused. Besides, she knew that her partner loved her, and that he would never do something like that to him, or so she wanted to think.

The stop light was lit at last for the last time, breaking any possible thought, taking the heavy bicycle, got out of the vehicle along with the few remaining passengers and after getting located, took a deep breath giving an ending to the final part of his trip.

She had never been an athletic person and that day was definitely not going to be any different, not only the fact that the bicycle was bad affected but her physical condition did not help at all, it was costing her the world to advance but she had to remember why she did it , for whom.

Pedaling after pedaling, minute by minute, she was getting closer, stopping to look at the map and crossing out advanced route making small annotations, she would need the map on her return and depending on the physical condition of both, she wanted it to be as easy as possible. Before she expected and sharpening her eyes she could see that there was indeed a large dividing fence, and some Civil Guard cars.

In view of the situation, she stopped short, leaving enough distance between herself and the fence not to be detected. Being careful she passed to the other side of the guardrail, taking the bicycle with her so that she could hide it in the undergrowth that had slowly reclaimed its land. She had to count her cards well, if someone saw her before reaching the other side it would be the end. Being careful not to move the weeds too much, she approached the limit. To her right on the road, two cars stood with their respective guards talking nonchalantly to each other, their attitude showed that they were not only used to being there but that it did not seem usual for anything to happen either.

It would be impossible to advance on that side, analyzing the left side it seemed the most viable option, the grass and weeds had grown in abundance, it was not a forest, but enough to not be able to get a car through
