A jet of ice water took Eden out of her dreams making her heart about to leave her chest, fiddling with the wet clothes that adhered to her body, she managed to reach the shower tap and turn it off. Breathing in gasps, she straightened up even more, draining the water from her hair, suddenly waking up had stunned her and seeing absolutely nothing did not help. Getting up carefully, she got out of the shower feeling her legs again, she still felt pressure, but nothing like the pain from the night before.
Feeling positive, she opened the door slightly, verifying that the furniture was still at the entrance door, only then did she completely exit the bathroom, opening all the doors in the hallway did the light begin to illuminate everything.
The young woman sat in the living room taking off her bandages and damp clothes, the largest cut was bleeding again as the scabs had softened, luckily it was not as exaggerated as the previous day, although it was more purple in color.
Recovering herself, she washed in cold water with grimace, and dressing again in one of the clothes she had brought she returned to the sofa to eat something. She was hungrier than she thought so she finished with all the snacks she was carrying in addition to one of her water bottles.
She knew that this adventure was going to be difficult, but she would never have imagined that level. When her mother had told her that people had turned into zombies, she thought she was exaggerating, the undead didn't exist, they were movie monsters. No sane person would ever believe the possibility of her existence, but there she was, in the middle of the city surrounded by creatures that would try to devour her at the slightest possibility.
Finishing getting ready, she looked out the window calculating the best route to take, from there she could see the scattered groups that were advancing aimlessly. As she had thought she saw the night before, the schoolyard had children and adults locked inside. Of course this was not like horror movies in which there were only middle-aged zombies, in real life they had all been infected without exception.
Once she had tightened the straps of her backpack and after combing her damp hair into a tight ponytail, she began to remove the barricade, discovering behind lying on the ground a wooden cane that seemed quite robust, being undoubtedly a new weapon possibly much more useful than her kitchen knife, as well as helping her in limp situations.
There seemed to be no one outside the apartment, so pushing the door slightly closed, she began to go down from floor to floor with her cane raised as if it were a baseball bat. Two levels below, lying on the ground in a humanly worrying position was one of the attackers from the night before, his neck was in an impossible position and he was completely immobile. Reluctantly, she stepped over the body, watching for any possible movement. Going down further, she noticed the dirt stains they had left on the walls and floor. Eden had to admit that she was surprised that the infected could come down the stairs, not expecting a the horde to be able to do such movements.
Reaching the bottom, she was able to get out without any conflict, and advancing between the portals of each building block, she dodged most of the groups. Finally hiding behind the flowerpots on the last portal, she paused so that she could finally study all those subjects closely.
They were definitely not human, it was impossible that those "people" were still alive. From what she could see, some were missing limbs, most had wide open wounds but no blood was flowing from them and there were no signs of pain. Their skins presented shades usual in bodies of deceased people, slightly waxy, yellowish or completely pale with purple lips and mouths. She wasn't close enough to see the finer details, but she could see something in their eyes that wasn't normal either.
What she could see is that unlike the television series in which the zombies were ugly, with deformed faces and putrid skin, in real life they only looked disheveled, and despite the wounds and pigmentation on their skin, their facial structures were "normal"
Looking at the sky for a second, she started her way again, she had taken longer than desirable and it was already the beginning of dusk, she could not allow herself to seek refuge again, and in view of the reality in which everything was, every second was pressing , her boyfriend was in danger and she had to get to him as soon as possible.
From her new position she had the possibility of taking two paths, she could not guess which would be more dislodged so she continued straight, at least between buildings all the hordes that might try to attack her would be fully visible.
Tightening her grip on the cane, she continued to take cover after what little she could protect her. And managing to avoid several groups, she started the slopes, that area was more open, going from being surrounded by buildings to being in neglected meadows, the higher she climbed the more difficult it was to move in stealth. Before her, an infected stray was approaching and she could not escape from him, making a quick but dangerous decision, she entered the grass waiting for him to approach. Taking position, as if it were a trapper spider, she pulled out half of her body, catching the zombie by the neck and taking it with her to the foliage.
He tried to reveal himself, trying to shake his body violently, but this time Eden was prepared and psyched. Sitting on top, she began to pull his neck back, she could not suffocate him, closing her eyes she pulled even harder until she noticed how his vertebrae were separated and the man was completely still.
