Chapter 51 - Chapter 51: Clues and lessons

After the first chapter, a decent amount of the chapters were about the major battles that Crystalia City had to overcome. But unfortunately, there was nothing about Lavenza that could have been recorded on this book. Soren felt dejected that Laventhign's words of no one knowing Lavenza's existance, were actually true. But the info that the book provided was still pretty useful, such as maps from 500 years ago, those could give him a clue for the location of Pallas City.

'No dice still.' Soren thought to himself after checking around 20 different versions of the map. Pallas City just didn't exist during the founding period of Crystalia City, or it was already ruined by then and it was erased from the map, that was the only thing Soren could find as useful from the book, aside from more information about Quan. Although the battles didn't go into much detail, he did catch the names of Quan's ultimate elemental spells, the ultimate water spell, Aques Malum and the ultimate darkness spell, Umbra Inanis. Soren noticed that Aques was similar to Aqua, which meant water in Latin, so he assumed that these moves were probably in Latin or something similar. Unfortunately for Soren, he didn't have an Engilsh-Latin dictionary and his Universal translation skill didn't help at all.

After spending in total around 2 hours reading that book, he got a decent idea about some things. For starters, Quan. The book actually emphasized quite a lot on him, due to the fact that battles are much more exciting than politics, schematics or preaches and suprisingly, the book actually got into quite a bit of detail on the personalities of the 4 founders. Laventhign was actually a lot kinder and well-mannered, compared to now, but she still let herself loose on a daily basis. Kris was the most expressionless of the bunch, but whenever alcohol entered through his system, he became the most colourful. Daren was stubborn, just as the first chapter of the book said, but he was extremely passionate about his work and was loyal to his friends. And Quan was the spirit of the group with his optimism, his kindness and his endless courage which allowed him to even stare death straight in the eye, although he did become irritated for the most random of things, like parenting issues and it seemed like he had a severe case of OCD as well.

"That was actually a pretty fun book to read. A lot of interesting information as well, but nothing very useful actually." Soren said quietly to Lavenza. Although the info was pretty interesting, ut wasn't really what Soren was looking for. He was hoping to find some information on Lavenza's birth situation or Pallas City at the very least, but even during Quan's death, he didn't find anything. Nothing about the battle, the conditions, or even the mark on the leader. Soren thought for a minute if any information was omitted. He knew that Lavenza's existance isn't known, but he still hoped that he could at least get a death report, but nothing of the sorts appeared, so he could only shake his head dejectedly.

"Well, next stop, magic books." Soren said quietly before he put the book in its place and left hall D. After swimming through a couple of flights of stairs, he reached the second floor and went towards the area with the magic books. Suprisingly, hall B only had a couple of bookcases with books, unlike the other halls that Soren had seen that were full of books.

'Let's see... Advanced uses of fire magic, not interested. A magician's jounrey to become a sage, doesn't have the thing I'm looking for. Magicians and dummies, 3rd edition, now you are just being ridiculous. Aha, here we go, Basics and Elementary Knowledge of Magic.' Soren thought to himself while looking for a book he could potentially find useful.

"Magic itself is considered as an elementary tool of our world as a means to manipute the world as we see fit. Everyone has mana, no matter how miniscule it could be, but that doesn't mean that everyone can become a magician in this world. Manipulating mana is easy, changing its properties is the hard part and said changes, could potentially cause unforseen effects that have the possibility of being out of our control. This is a guide to give you the basics on elementary magic and it's properties. For starters, there are the 6 basic elements, fire, water, wind, earth, light and darkness. Those elements sound pretty self-explanatory by themselves, but that is not the case. For starters, let's start with fire magic, fire magic can not be extiguished by normal water for starters, but can be extinguished by water magic or magic-infused water. Next, water magic can appear harmless at first, but it is probably the most damaging of the bunch, causing heavy internal injuries that the victim itself would not even be aware of. Wind magic can be frail and weak, but it is the only type of magic that can not be detected by the normal 5 senses, hence making it potentially, the deadliest type of magic. Earth magic can appear impenetrable, but that couldn't be more wrong, since it can be easily cut down with just one motion of a weapon, but it is also the magic that can be used the most often, due to its low mana cost and high rate of fire. Next is light magic, something that appearantly is extremely common about this and dark magic, is that the heroes consider that light and darkness are like good and bad. Truth of that is the fact that those elements oppose eachother, but they are also the same in a way. Light is deadly to demons and it empowers the allies, while darkness is deadly to angels and it debilitates the enemies. Both are polar opposites, yet they are the same."

That amount of information was quite a lot for Soren to digest immidiately, but it did solve the mystery of the big bruise he had on his chest. Also, the fact that light and darkness were support elements, made Soren a bit skeptical at first, but it was going to be interesting later on when he actually learned some dark magic.

"Next, the types of spells that exist. The elementary spells themeselves have 10 offensive spells in their arsenal, the ball, the shot, the wall, the cutter, the cannon, the aura, the armor, the dome, the blast and the ultimate spells. The ball spells are a ball projectile that comes at a normal speed, the shot is a small ball with high speed but almost no power, the cutter is a mix of the ball and the shot spells but without having the full advantages of those spells, the cannon is an extremely powerful projectile but has low speed, the blast is a projectile that has the same power and speed as the ball, but it can cause massive area damage. The wall spells are a magic wall that protect from other attacks, the domes are the same as the walls but provide full radius protection. The armor spells allow the user to have a suit of armor that gives them elemental resistance, while tthe aura spells give weapons elemental properties. Finally, the ultimate spells show the full destructive power of the elements but are the harfest to use as well due to their extremely high cast times."

"So those are the basic spells, but what about spells like silent dome?" Soren said quietly to himself before he continued reading.

"Now there are also a whole bunch of utility or support spells. Those spells require to have the mana manipulation as the basis and the elementary spells as the auxilary parts of the spell, only the buffs and debuffs from from the light and dark elements are exempt from that rule. But the main focus of these spells is the support that provide during certain situations and even sometimes, are the solutions to certain problems."

After spending some more tine reading the book, Soren got a decent idea on the way magic works. Elemental magic has 10 common spells with exception of light and darkness who have buffs and debuffs as well and there are also a lot of utility spells that require pure mana as it's base and can be imbued with elemental magic as well to give them certain properties.

After putting the book back in its place, he decided to move towards hall C. While he was swimming there, he accidentally bumped on a person's shoulder.

"Sorry. I didn't mean to do that." Soren said apologetically. The person that Soren bumped to, didn't turn around and just kept swimming towards their destonation. That person had long black hair, a shiny purple tail and was wearing black clothes.

"Weirdo." Soren said to himself quietly, before he started swimming again towards hall C. As Soren was leaving, she also said quietly:

"Retard."
