The moment that interface came in front of his eyes, he was left in shock and disbelief and he suddenly felt like his head was going split apart from a nasty headache. Thankfully for Soren, that headache lasted only a few seconds at most.
"Tsk. My head is killing me... Just what in the world is this book?" Soren said normally.
"Shhh... Quiet." One of the mermen who were nearby Soren made that signal so he could tell Soren to quiet down.
"Sorry." Soren said quietly before he focused his attention to the book.
'A book that is abnormally heavy, is completely blank in both pages and title, oh yes, it also induces a litteraly headache that will give another headache on top of that. Conclusion, this thing is abnormal and should probably stay away from anyone or anything.' Soren's thought train gave him that conclusion. He knew that whatever this is, it's better off for it to be as far away as it is possible.
"Let's just leave Lavenza. We already have learned what we need to learn." Soren said quietly before he and Lavenza started to make their way towards their exit. Just as Soren was leaving the hall, the book was suddenly coming towards Soren at some high speed and was going to hit him on the back. Once he felt that something was coming at rather high speeds, thanks to the water waves that felt like something was being pushed, Soren made a mana wall quickly and raised his arms in a cross-guard and decided to block the incoming book. At that moment, the book collided with the mana wall and fell on the ground after all of its momentum disappeared.
'Holy crap. Did this book try to take me out the picture already?' Soren thought to himself before he broke a cold sweat.
"This book is definitely dangerous. Wow, I didn't expect those words to come out of my mouth today." Soren said quietly while holding his head with his right hand. At this point, Soren didn't many ideas left to deal with this book, or rather he was almost out of ideas. He either had to keep it with him or ask the staff about it. Without giving it much thought, he decided to ask the staff about it, but because he needed to show it to the staff, he couldn't carry it in his hands since it was abnormally extremely heavy, so he decided for now to put the book in his bag and take it to the one of the librarian's desks and ask about it.
After a couple of minutes of swimming, he made it to the librarian's desk which Soren spoke with a little while ago. The librarian's position hadn't changed much from her position when Soren left her. He wasn't exactly looking forward to talk with her.
"Miss, may I ask you something?" Soren asked a bit nervously.
"If it isn't about books, we have nothing to speak about." The librarian said indifferently without even lifting her head from her desk.
"Actually, I wish to ask about one of the books here." Soren said seriously.
"What is it? Is it missplaced?" The librarian asked without moving much.
"No, it isn't about that. Actually I want to ask if this book exists in the archives of the library." Soren explained a bit seriously when he took out the red book with some difficulty.
The woman gave the book a quick look and said: "It probably is. Just give me the title of the book and it's serial number."
After checked the book for a bit to look for the number, he saw that there was no such thing on this book. It truly didn't have anything, no title, no chapters, entries or even words on the pages and it didn't even have a serial number, also it tried take Soren out of the picture like a trained assassin.
"Ummm... This book actually doesn't have a title actually. Not only that, but it doesn't have any words written in it, as well as no serial number on it. Also, it litterally came flying to me and tried to take me out and I doubt if anyone was nearby the book that had even the power to lift this thing. And it's abnormally heavy as well for some reason." Soren explained with a small hint of nervousness on his face.
"Huh? What kind of book is that? Let me see it a bit." The librarian said a bit curiously but didn't believe Soren much. After she said that, Soren gave her the book and the moment she picked it up, she understood that one of the statements Soren said, was actually true. The book was indeed, abnormally heavy for some reason. After checking the heavy book for a little bit, she realised that most of the statements that Soren said, were actually true. The only thing she didn't believe, was Soren's statement for the book trying to knock him out, it was litterally too far fetched.
"Where did you find this?" The librarian asked while giving a serious glare towards Soren.
"I found it in hall C, on the second floor. I heard it make a loud noise when it fell, but when I checked the nearby bookcases, there were no empty spaces that could indicate that it fell from there." Soren explained as well as he could.
"Hmmm... Interesting. Did anyone pass by when this book fell down?" She asked back.
"No. Actually, I don't think there was anyone close to hall C. There were some guys in some of the other halls, but no one except me in there." Soren explained.
"Hmmm... Interesting. Follow me." After the librarian said it, she got up from the desk and started swimming towards one of the rooms near the desks.
After the librarian, Soren and Lavenza entered the room, they were greeted with some sort of storage room. The room itself had dozens of boxes that were full of books and random items that seemed like they were forgotten by their owners.
"This is actually our "lost and found" room. Usually, people tend to forget something in here, every once in a while, so whenever they forget something, it is always stored in here." After the librarian said that, she started rummaging through one of the boxes.
"Usually by the next day, or the day after that, the owners come back and ask for their lost items. It takes a little bit of time to find them, but after the job is done, they leave as if the incident never happened. Now, the reason why we are here, is because I am searching for a little gadget that will help us see if that book belongs to the library or not. Of course, with the way this room is organised, I can't say that it will be easy to find that. So you two are going to help look for the gadget. Also you can't say no to that, otherwise I'm ending my services early and I'm kicking you two out with a permament ban for this library." The librarian said seriously before it changed into a menacing tone.
*gulp* Soren felt nervous once he said that and asked:
"How does the gadget look like?"
"Like a gun with a screen on top of it." The woman said expressionlessly while she started rummaging through another box.
"Got it. Lavenza, take care of those boxes over there, I'll take care of the boxes at the other side." Soren said to Lavenza with a hint of nervousness while he put the red book down.
As the three of them spent some time looking for the gadget, the book started to shake a little bit and once Soren was far enough for the book, it suddenly launched towards Soren with high speed. The woman saw the book flying towards Soren and used a mana wall to stop it midway. She was rather suprised by the fact the book tried to litterally knock Soren out.
"Are you alright?" The librarian asked with a serious expression.
"Yeah, I'm fine. This isn't the first time it does that." Soren said slightly jokingly.
"Didn't expect that book to launch at you like a hungry piranha." She held her head with her right hand.
"Does this thing have a thing for charging at me, whenever this is far away from me?" Soren said sarcastically.
"Maybe you should-" Just as she was going to suggest to continue searching, suddenly Lavenza interrupted them while holding a gun with a screen in her mouth.
"Kyuu~"
Once the two of them saw Lavenza, Soren said happily:
"Nice work Lavenza."
"Not bad little girl." The librarian said as well before she grabbed the gadget off Lavenza's mouth.
Once she got the gadget in her hands, he pointed it at the book and a blue light came out of the muzzle that encovered the entire book. After around 20 seconds or so, the light stopped and she started looking at the screen.
"So, ummm... What is that gadget supposed to do or be?" Soren asked curiously.
"Scanner. A simplified one for inanimate objects. It will display the properties and the materials the book was made off, but it won't be able to show the contents since there weren't any in the first place." The librarian exolained while having her eyes glued in the screen.
"I see. And how long will it take until the results come?" Soren asked curiously.
"Just give it a minute aaaaaaaaaand..."
*beep*
"The results are here."
