"Ahhhhhh my haiirrrr. You ignorant, insufferable, no good for nothing, low class Omega. How dare you, you will pay for this. Arggg" She said on the verge of tears. The whole pack looked at us both, stunned by the events that had taken place a few seconds ago.
I quickly muttered an apology before leaving the hall and from the corner of my eye l could see Antonio following me. I had completely ruined whatever chance l had of providing that l was more than my Omega status.
"Omega!" Antonio called after me. I stood in my spot, fear clawing itself on every inch of my body. I slowly turned around but was unable to look him in the eyes. Not only was l ashamed, but l didn't want to come off as disrespectful.
"What happened out there?" He asked in anger. Had he been a cartoon character, l am sure he would have had steam coming out of his ears and his face would have looked like a beetroot.
"The way you were looking at me freaked me out" l spoke hesitantly. I heard him drawing in a breath before exhaling loudly.
"Look at me" He spoke softly. I found the whole encounter strange because was usually an egocentric prick. I slowly lifted my head to look at him and l felt myself die on the inside. His eyes were a rose gold colour which caused my heart to start at an inhumane speed. The air turned hotter and l could only smell a woodsy cinnamon smell.
Mate! my wolf whispered to me. My mouth ran dry and all l could do was stare blankly at Antonio. What would this mean for us, me especially. It's no secret that he hates Omegas, so its pretty obvious that a rejection is coming up next.
The sad part is that l have been waiting a long time to meet my mate. I have seen countless mated pairs growing old, grey and wrinkled together. Their love and bond never fading. The hope of finding my mate was what always kept me sane. Knowing that regardless of the number of years l wonder on this earth, my other half will one day cross paths with me.
It hasn't always been an easy walk and l felt at times that l was cursed with being alone. The worst pain any wolf could ever endure. I almost gave up and took my life but being a powerful wolf comes with a lot of challenges, one of which is the inability to kill yourself.
But on the bright side, being mateless has allowed me to be the woman l am today, to have achieved all that l have in a predominantly male ruling world. Everywhere l go, hushed whispers of my name sound in the shadows. Those that have been alive as long as l have tried to keep history alive by storing it in books and caves. All that l had done and sacrificed for the werewolf kingdom.
But as time passed by, the generations after believed that it was all myths. Which is a huge advantage for me because then all l have to do is mask my scent and live life like everyone else.
" We're mates" l stated nonchalantly. Saying that out loud sounded crazy to my ears that l couldn't help the laugh that bellowed out of my chest. Such an unfortunate twist of fate.
" Laughing about it won't change the situation" He stated annoyed
"I'll make this easy for us both. I Attica Brine reject thee Alpha Antonio Rains of the Bluemoon Stone as my mate" and that's all it took for my heart to be ripped out of my chest. The feeling of clawing started at the sole of my feet to the top of my head. This is what it felt like to be ripped apart alive. Tribal marks started appearing on every inch of my body, which was my body's natural defence system.
Antonio was barely holding together. He was rolling on the floor clutching on to the non-existent fat on his belly. One drop, two and just like that waterworks sprouted out of his eyes.
"I Anton-n-io, Alpha....of the Bluemoon--- Stone pack d-do not accept your rejection" He barely managed to get out. His body was turning a bright red and his eyes had begun changing colour signalling the presence of his wolf..
His magic words did the trick as the pain began to slowly subside. I could hear him heave a sigh of relief at the feeling of being somewhat back to his normal self. But he was not out of danger yet, his body will take three days to heal. Due to the length of his absence, his Beta Cornelius came out to look for him and found him in a disgruntled state on the floor in front of my feet.
This was a very awkward and disrespectful position. An Alpha was to never bow before anyone.
"What have you done to him." shrieked Cornelius. "Guards!" He screamed at the top of his lungs. And in the next second the hallway was surrounded by a dozen wolves all ready to attack.
"Take her to the dungeons. She wanted to kill our Alpha" ordered Cornelius.
The next thing l know is that l was dragged by my hair, while my hands were cuffed in silver handcuffs behind my back. I screamed at the top of my lungs pleading with Antonio to shed some light on the events that had taken place not long ago. Hoping that his refusal to accept my rejection was because he wanted to start a life together.
I guess to a certain extent, l did try to kill him. But knowing of the Alpha blood running through his veins, l was sure that rejection wasn't going to affect him much. In the werewolf community, it is frowned upon to reject your mate. The penalty for such a 'crime' is death.
In the event of the few cases that wolves reject each other, the only people strong enough to survive the rejection are higher ranking wolves. Unfortunately for those that are recently instated as alpha similarly to Antonio, if the reaction is like his, it's a sign that he is not ready to lead the pack.
My screaming seemed to have caused a lot of curious people to form a crowd all eagerly watching the scene taking place right on front of their eyes. Some shared looks of pity, while others simply watched in contentment.
Having enough of my screaming, one of the guards put a gasoline covered handkerchief in my mouth knocking me out cold.
