{Kyrie}
I slowly became more and more aware of my surroundings. It all looked so Strange. This was apparently my room. I suppose it was nice to have this huge space to myself. I still felt stiff. I needed to stretch my legs out and wake up. I decided that Saiya was a person I could trust, seeing that she had no intention of hurting me. Saiya confirmed that it was late in the evening, which explained why it was so dark outside the window. She continued to tell me what was happening and what I had missed as we walked down the corridor. Apparently I had missed quite a bit. I couldn't remember everything she said, but I did understand:
1. We were underwater. Apparently we were living in an underwater Sea Base named Argos.
2. There was a small civilization built around Station Argos.
3. I was in a coma for about a year and a half.
4. I lost my memory (Obviously.)
Yet there was so much more I wanted to ask Saiya. I tried speaking to her, but I had difficulty doing so. My throat started hurting as soon as I started to talk, not only that, I kept stuttering and made an awkward noise. I couldn't seem to form full sentences let alone single words like Saiya. Therefore, I was unable to communicate. I let out a frustrated sigh.
"It's okay, Kyrie...don't be mad. We can figure out another way for you to communicate. Maxis has a bunch of notebooks. Maybe he can give you one. Maybe you could write what you want to say instead."
The Corridor we walked down was massive. It was lit with white lights on the ceiling. I squinted a bit, since these were a bit brighter than the ones in my dorm. The hall had many doors just like mine. Perhaps they were doors to rooms like mine? Saiya led me down the hallway. It was so quiet, I could hear our footsteps echoing off the walls. I looked as I walked and noticed numbers on the doors...simple golden numbers on the center. We stopped outside one door. Saiya pushed a button on a panel next to it and it made a soft beeping sound. the doors slid open and we stepped in. It was a small room. it had lights at the top and another panel of buttons....but there were more buttons on this side. Saiya pushed one of them and the doors slid closed. suddenly I felt as if we were sinking. I grabbed the railing along the walls.
"We're okay, It's just an elevator. it's taking us down to the floor below." She said, resting a reassuring hand on my shoulder. The sinking feeling finally stopped, and the elevator opened, we stepped out into another hallway just like the one we were just on, I followed Tasha down this hall, and to another door with the number "B400"
The doors slid open after she knocked.
The dorm looked nearly identical to mine, except that it was a bit more messier. There was another person sitting in a chair who seemed to be reading a book of some sort. He set it aside. He looked over to us.
"Ah. Thank god she woke up...I had faith....but I was beginning to worry." he said.
He slowly approached us. The same instincts had kicked in once more...but I forced myself to stay where I was. I felt very nervous, seeing a new face, But Saiya says that this person was a friend. He had black hair, but with green stripes in it. His eyes were a bright acid green color. His skin was slightly tan. He wore a black shirt and sweatpants. The person named Maxis was tall. his body was toned...not bulky or muscular...but he had defined muscles. He was fit. He looked friendly enough. But he had a particularly warm expression when he looked at me, as if he knew me. Again, I tried recalling this face in my memory, but with no success. Yet my instincts were telling me that this was someone I once knew.
Saiya Patted me on the shoulder.
"Kyrie was always strong, and soo stubborn. I knew she would come through."
She led me to a couch. We sat down.
"Yes...She was...Extremely stubborn. That's one of the things I loved about her. How are you feeling Kyrie?" Maxis asked.
"Um...Kyrie does not seem to have the ability to speak. She tried talking to me..." Her voice trailed off.
Maxis' expression changed a bit. He seemed to be slightly pained.
"Ah...I see...is it...Permanent?"
"It shouldn't be. Let's wait awhile, I'm sure she'll regain her ability to talk. Let's see. Give her a notebook, I told her she could use one to try to communicate with us."
"Right. I should have one." Maxis went over to a desk that was in the room and came back with a Spiral notebook and pen. He gave them to me.
"can you write, Kyrie?" He asked. I nodded. I flipped the notebook open. I wrote the word 'yes' on the first page.
"Alright, seems like she can. How are you feeling Kyrie? Do you feel sick, or anything?"
I shook my head and wrote on the notebook again:
I feel okay...But I'm really hungry.
I turned the Notebook around to show Saiya.
"Alright. I'll go make you something."
Saiya got up and headed over to the Kitchen.
"You probably don't remember me, I bet it's been quite a while after all."
"She only knows what I've told her, Max. She can't remember a single thing." Tasha said from the Kitchen.
"Damn, it seems like the Doctors were right."
What happened to me? I showed Maxis what I wrote.
"Uhh...Saiya, Should I tell her what happened?"
"She'll find out sooner or later. I think it's best that she hears it from you before some other jackass tries to fill her head with lies."
"Well, Alright then…" Maxis grabbed a bottle of Whiskey that was sitting on the table. He drank straight from it.
"It was a long time ago, before we ever landed on this planet. Before, We were aboard a spaceship called Arlandos. Back then I was responsible for taking care of you. I had rescued you from an Earthquake back when Earth was falling apart. You told me you were homeless, and had no family that cared about you, so I took it upon myself to look after you that moment on. I brought you onto Station Arlandos and the Rockets left Earth just moments before it was destroyed. After a few months, Other humans were dying left and right either from stress, or Suicide. One day we were finding dead people with black liquid coming from their eyes, nose, ears and mouth. The doctors finally announced that the people who had died in this way were dying from a foreign virus. We have no idea where it came from, but we concluded it was not an Earthly virus. It had to be from our new surroundings."
Maxis took another drink. He seemed to have difficulty explaining everything.
"One day, you started complaining, But being Assistant security of the Station I was extremely busy and I would prioritize my work over you. Over and Over you came to me and kept complaining about how miserable you felt, but I ignored you. Two weeks later, a Doctor came to be and said you were Diagnosed with the same Virus that the others had been catching, but by the time they had found out, it was already too late. The Virus kept getting stronger and slowly disabling you and eating away at your body. It went on for several weeks before you went into a coma. The Doctors performed multiple procedures and they finally managed to cure you."
Maxis Set down his bottle. I could see tears beginning to stream down his Cheeks.
"They said that you wouldn't be the same. You would most likely have no memory of the past whatsoever. If only...I had paid attention. If only I would have taken you to see a Doctor when you first came to me...None of this would have happened. I did this to you...I'm sorry Kyrie. I was...Selfish."
I could feel my own eyes sting for a second, I felt his pain as he explained to me. Maxis was responsible for me? Was he perhaps my bodyguard? No. Something told me that he was more to me than a bodyguard. Maybe he was a close friend.
"There's no way for me to change the past...But I won't ever make that same mistake again. Kyrie, If you ever need anything, If you ever need any help, Come straight to either Saiya or Myself. We won't ever Ignore you. You can also trust Victor. He is also a close friend of mine. You used to know him. We will take care of you."
I nodded. All feelings of uneasiness I had towards Maxis had faded. I now recognized him as a close friend. I don't know who Victor was, but I will keep his name in my mind for the future.
Am I going to be okay on the Station? I flipped my notebook around to show Maxis.
"You'll be just fine, Kyrie. There is nobody else on this station that Saiya and I care more about other than you. This planet is a big world. We don't know what's out there. But we gotta keep each other close."
'Big world?' I wondered what the Big World looked like. It was apparent that we no longer lived where we used to, and from the sound of things, Nobody seemed to know the Big World very well. I had a feeling I had A lot that I have to learn. First, I think I need to get Familiar with Station Argos and the Underwater City around it before I even begin to worry about the rest of the World. I felt like I needed to hurry up and recover, to learn as much as I could. Right now in my current state, I felt weak, Oblivious...and above all, Vulnerable.
