Chapter 6 - Rescue mission

{Saiya's Point of View}

Earlier this morning, I was woken up by a young Voyager. Her name was Kay. She had told me a fellow Voyager's Sub broke down and we needed to go rescue him. It was now afternoon, according to the clock, I sat in Kay's sub,the Rebel along with a fair haired Voyager named Ares. He was one of Max's friends who decided he should tag along in case something went wrong.

The Pilot room was large enough for four crew members, but can be Piloted by one. There were windshield windows that allowed 180 degree vision. Kay was in the pilot area, The Rebel had a dual stick steering wheel. In front of Kay was a console with a radar, and countless switches, buttons and gadgets.

"How far did Liam and his crew go?" I looked out the window of the Rebel, however there was nothing but a deep blue void was to be seen.

"I...I'm not sure. Captain Alfonse gave me the last coordinates his Rebel gave off." Kay looked at the Navigation Monitor. "Looks like we're getting close. You're right, this is pretty far. It makes me uncomfortable being out in open sea like this...considering the stories I've heard from the other voyagers." she said.

"Yeah, who knows, there might be a giant Megalodon out there." Ares said, gazing out of the window as well.

"Ares! That really isn't helping me here."

"I'm just kidding. But seriously, there could be something out here that-"

"Ares…"

"Ookay, okay, I'll shut it."

I took a drink from my water bottle. I felt incredibly bored from sitting around and staring at the empty sea for three and a half hours straight. If I knew it would have taken this long I would have brought a book or magazine or something.

"What's wrong there, Saiya? You look like you're dying of Boredom over there.''

Ares noticed me daydreaming.

"Tell me about it. How can Voyagers bear such long travel with nothing to do?"

"Oh, trust me, If you're driving one of these Rebels, there is never time to be bored. You constantly gotta keep your eyes on the radar, watch the engine heat, and you always have to be ready to hit that shield activation button if something attacks." Kay said.

"How long have you been a Rebel pilot?"

"Oh, I'd say this is my seventh month now. Thinking of Being a Rebel Pilot Saiya?"

"Nah, I'll stick with my Stingray."

I leaned back rather dangerously far in my seat and groaned. I feel like I was acting childish, but whatever. Ares and Kay had the same level of immaturity as I.

"You'll live, Saiya, you'll live. But you won't live if you lean any farther backwards, you'll smack the back of your head onto the table behind you. if you fall."

"Eh…" I stood up and stretched,

"Have you guys even seen any Sea monsters?" I asked my friends.

"No!" They both said in unison.

"Well, yeah, I have actually, a big ass squid like creature nearly crushed my Rebel." Said Ares.

"When was this!?'' Kay exclaimed.

"Few weeks ago. On my way to Station Trinity."

"So that's what that was...why didn't you tell me?"

"Well you're the one who's scared enough as is Voyaging by yourself. Why would I throw another reason onto that?"

"You just did."

"Well, My Rebel got damaged because I didn't have the Shields on. If I did, It wouldn't have almost gotten squashed like a bug." He leaned over the consoles and pushed a button.

"There, Now your shields are on. Surprised you haven't noticed it was off."

"Hey, I think this is it. I'm getting pings on something." Said Kay. The Radar began making pinging sounds, indicating that there was something nearby.

"Probably a whale...if there are any on the planet." Ares mumbled.

We all peered outside the windshield. Very slowly an object came into view. We began to see more of it as we approached it. We encountered what seemed to be a damaged Type 25 Rebel. It was facing upside down, and there were massive dents on both sides of the Rebel. It was missing It's Railgun and the paint was scratched up. It also had giant teeth marks on it, as if something were trying to eat it.

"Damn, what happened here?" Ares seemed surprised at the damage the Rebel had taken.

"Looks like it was attacked. Let me try to contact him." Kay got out her radio.

"Liam, this is Kay from Station Argos, we see your sub, over."

nothing but static.

"Liam, do you copy? Are there any Injured passengers? Over." again, no reply but the empty static over the radio. We all flinched when we heard a high pitched ringing noise.

"Radio could be broken. Here. pull up to the sub, we might be able to connect to the docking area."

Kay put her hands back to the controls and maneuvered the Rebel over to the damaged Rebel and carefully connected the two together.

"There. I've connected the Entrances together. You can get in through the Airlock. But be sure to purge the entrance area first."

"Will do. Alright, Saiya. You're first search and rescue. Just do what I do, and you'll be fine. Oh, and Kay, I'll need you to stay with the Rebel."

"Ookay...are you sure?"

"Well yeah, who's going to reconnect the Rebels if it detaches?"

"Oh, good point. Be careful down there."

"We'll be fine."

I followed Ares down the main Corridor down to the Airlock. Ares hit a button on a control panel and a loud whooshing sound was heard on the other side.

"How bad do you think it is inside?" I asked.

"Well, The Sub seems beat up pretty good, I'll be damned if there is anything left inside.

"Soo...you're not expecting survivors?" I asked, grabbing my flashlight.

"Well, there might. But even if they're all dead, we need to take a look and report the dead Voyagers to captain Alfonse."

The door opened. Usually there was supposed to be a light in the airlock, but the AirLock was badly damaged.

"Ladies first?" Ares did a bow and gestured to the entrance of the damaged sub. I looked into the dark ruins of the Sub and then back at him.

"No? Alright, follow the Piper then."

I followed Ares down the ladder and down into the other sub. We found ourselves in the main Corridor of the Sub, Both walls were lines with pipes that were either busted, or barely hanging off of the walls. I was surprised to find that I had landed into water that went up to my knees. The sub had multiple hull breaches and was very slowly filling up with sea water. Trash, debris, and other junk floated on the surface. The sub made an eerie creaking noise.

"Yikes, the Sub is sinking. No doubt it's pulling Kay's Rebel with it, better make this fast."

Ares and I continued down the beat up corridor, we checked any other rooms that we passed by, only to find that it had been thrown about trash.

"Hello? Search and Rescue! Anyone here?" Ares called. He moved his flashlight around. No answer. He repeated his line multiple times, but received no answer.

We reached the end of the Corridor and entered the main control room.

"Where the hell is everybody?"

We looked around the Control room, which was unrecognizable. There were multiple areas where water was pouring in, and the Room was a total wreck, consoles were busted, wires hung everywhere, papers and books...Scattered all about. There was a part of the room where it was bashed in. This is where water was leaking from. We split up in the room to find Liam. I pointed my flashlight directly in front of me. I searched under tables, seeing if I could find at least a body or a survivor. Ares wandered into another part of the room, checking out the Pilot room, which happened to be bashed in as well. My light flickered and shut off with a popping noise.

"You good over there?"

"Yeah, my light burnt out. Don't worry, I'm fine!" I dropped the now useless flashlight and pulled out my phone and used it's flashlight. I wandered off into the opposite side of the room, towards the smashed Consoles, I tried seeing if there was anything left to salvage, but everything was damaged beyond repair.

"Wait a second….Something's wrong here…" I heard Ares say. I began to notice bloodstains and thick black goo all over the walls and tables. Some even dripped from the ceiling and down onto me.

"Ah...Ew….It's all over my hair." I muttered.

I began to feel deep inside that something wasn't right. My instincts began to tell me that We should leave right away. Part of me wanted to Drop everything and run back the way I came. The room began to feel suddenly cold and I couldn't shake the feeling that something was watching me. I saw something float across the corner of my eye, I turned my head and directed my light in the direction of the movement. Nothing was there. I looked around to find what I thought I saw but found nothing. Perhaps I imagined it? I heard something move behind me, followed by a croaking noise. I was just going to turn around when suddenly I felt something grab me and I felt teeth sinking into my shoulder. I screamed as I felt a searing pain in my neck. I felt a chunk of my flesh being ripped off. Two more creatures emerged from the water. One grabbed my lower leg and bit me, while the other sunk its teeth into my side.

"ARES!!! H-HELP!!!!"

"Saiya!"

I couldn't bear the pain of getting eaten alive, I tried breaking free, but they had me in a tight grip.

Ares vaulted over a table along his way and drew a knife, stabbing the creature behind me in the head and throwing it off of me. He delivered a powerful kick to the creature that was feasting on my leg, sending it reeling backwards. Ares yanked me out of the other creature's grip and it came at him, arms outstretched, he jammed the knife under its chin and left it there. The creature dropped to the floor. Just then, multiple other creatures Rose from the water and staggered towards us, making horrible screeching and wailing noises.

"Fuck this, I'm getting you outta here!"

Ares scooped me up and carried me bridal style and ran for the Exit. I looked backwards and saw a misty black shadow moving behind the creatures. I couldn't get a good look as Ares rushed me out of the Control room. He quickly made his way down the corridor.

"Ah!" Something grabbed a hold of his leg and made him drop me into the water.

"Argh, let go damn it!" Ares stomped onto the Creature's head until it let go. The others were beginning to catch up, reaching for Ares.

"We ain't dying here!" he grabbed me and hauled me to the Other end.

"C'mon, you first! Climb!" Ares pushed me up the ladder as I struggled to climb with one good arm and leg. Each movement brought me more and more pain. I pulled myself up into The Rebel and Ares came up the ladder behind me and slammed the button, which sealed the door.

"Kay! We need to go! Start up The Rebel!" Ares shouted. I could hear the creatures wailing and pounding on the door.

"Ares….I….can't…." I felt my body getting heavy and my vision was going dark. I was losing lots of blood from my wounds. It felt like my soul was slowly leaving my body.

"No, no, Saiya, don't you dare close those eyes! You're not going to die here." he picked me up and carried me to the Pilot's room.

"Kay, damn it, I'm not kidding we need to--"

Ares pushed the door open. Kay was sitting in her pilot's chair, motionless and limp. Her skin was grey and her eyes were gouged out, and a thick black slime was streaming from them, as well as the corners of her mouth. A look of shock was frozen on her face.

"What in the bloody hell is going on here?! This makes no sense!" Ares set me down on a chair. He moved Kay's dead body aside and took control, Detaching the Rebel and setting a course back to Station Argos. He set it on Autopilot.

"Saiya! Don't die, hang in there! I'm going to get the MedKit, hang in there!"

Ares hurried off out of the room. I looked at Kay again. What happened to her? did somebody get on to the sub somehow? It didn't look like she was cut, shot or strangled in anyway. No, something else had happened. The worst thing about this is that we will never know what had happened to her considering there were no cameras in the pilot room. I felt myself slipping away. my vision was going blurry and black. Despite fighting to stay awake, I just couldn't do it. Something came into the room again, I looked with my fading Vision. Fear came over me as I lost consciousness.

It wasn't Ares….
