Chereads / Amaryllis: A Demi-Human's Tale / Chapter 65 - Chapter 64

Chapter 65 - Chapter 64

"Demi-Human are in a way like people when it comes to it. They have their own goals, dreams, and way of life. Even their magic is like that. Some matches their personalities, traits they were given, or they just happened across it. Just like you and I having different talents," Elizabeth said in a cheerful tone as she took a moment.

"And just like people, there are ones that are in a sense bad or wicked. They are dangerous and want nothing to do with humans or wish to bring harm to them or even other Demi-Human." Elizabeth's voice trailed off again.

As sweat began to beat down Lucas face from the walking and carrying the bag, he couldn't help but feel the butterflies in his stomach began to grow more. If he had to guess, they had been walking for almost and hour or two. It was hard to tell since, he didn't have his phone on him. "You don't need your phone on you for this," he remembered his mom's voice ringing in his head. A sigh left his mouth as he realized, he could actually go for some music now.

"Let's stop here," Amay spoke out as she looked over at Lucas to see him nearly covered with sweat. She forgot that he wasn't like Elizabeth or Martha, and wasn't used to stuff like this. "He still has some ways to go" She thought to herself as she found a nice decently sized rock to sit on.

"Oh, okay. Are you alright?" Lucas said stopping and looked to see Amay sitting. "Are we breaking?"

"I'm fine. You on the hand need to take a breather." She began to explain while slipping her sandals off to rub her white socks. "There's no need to rush into something and be taken out while being exhausted from the walk. So let's sit here for a moment." She said barely looking at him.

"Oh. That makes sense." Lucas said thinking about it. He quickly took the backpack off of his back, and could feel his back pop a little as he stretched. While leaning against a tree for a breather, he looked at his bag for a moment and could feel his throat became parch. "Hey. Amay?"

"Yes?" She said flexing her toes a little.

"Should I drink some water now or wait?" He asked out of pure curiosity.

A long sigh came from Amay as she didn't expect him to ask such a question like that. "You can drink some now, but you need....to...save...some," her voice trailed off as she looked over to find Lucas nearly chug half of his canteen down. "Stop! You fucking idiot."

"Oh. Sorry." Lucas said pulling the canteen away from his lips realizing what he was doing. "Did you want some?" He asked while handing the canteen out to her.

"No. I'm good, but you need to save that." Amay said trying her best not to yell at him fully. She had to take a deep breathe before talking again. "Have you ever been camping before or been into the deep woods?"

Her words caused Lucas to pause for a moment and fully think about it. "Well not exactly. Mom would let me go camping in the yard with Martha with me. It was always fun and so, until I got too old to want to do it anymore." He told her while putting the canteen away.

"So I'm guessing the mutt, didn't tell you about the water and stuff," she asked in a irritated tone. "Figured she would teach you something, since she's always wanting to be out side." She rolled her eyes at her.

"Are you okay?" Lucas asked picking up on her words. "You seem kinda irritated or mad about all of this. You also seemed kinda distance since we started walking as well. Did something happened?"

"I'm fine," she said letting out another deep sigh as she thought about Elizabeth. "Just want to get this over and done with."

"Oh. You sure?"

"I'm. Fine." She said trying to stop him from asking again.

Lucas could feel the anger in words. "She's avoiding the conversation again," He thought to himself as he fully realized it.

Lucas started to pick up a pattern witn Amay. He noticed that whenever she's irritated or upset, she doesn't want to talk about it at all. The same goes for when she gets really embarrassed. He also noticed this happened when ever his mom was around mom more then anything. Part of him understood why she does it, but another part of him sort of wanted to know why there's this tension between her and his mother. Even some more about her personal.

"Alright. My bad." He said not wanting to push the subject anymore. He was annoyed at her for kinda putting a damper on his mood. "So what kinda Demi-Human do you think we are going to meet?" He asked trying to change up the subject.

Amay sighed realizing she might be a little to harsh or rude. "I don't know. She could have picked something really easy or went with something a little challenging. Who knows. I just hope, it's a good challenge." She said bushing her small strains of hair out of the way.

"I see. Do you have a preference on what it could be?"

"Do you?" She said raising an eyebrow as a smirk formed across her face.

"Well....You can't judge me for this." He said as a smile came across his face as he could barely hold back his chuckle. "I want it to be a Bigfoot or windigo."

"Really?" Amay said kinda intrigued. "How come?"

Lucas just shrugged. "I always wanted to see a Bigfoot and windigos are just really cool."

"Interesting." She said actually thinking about it for a moment. "I guess a dragon would be cool. I always wanted to face one."

"Wow. A dragon?" Lucas said actual blow away. "How come?"

"Well, dragons are rumored to be the closest descendants of the Divine Serpents." Amay said with a soft smile as she thought about her long time goal. "I always wanted to defeat one with my own powers."

"Hold on," Lucas actually interrupting her. "Those things are real?"

"What? A Divine Serpant?"

"Yes. I thought those were like your go to word in religion. Like we humans would say Jesus Christ, Oh god, or something like that." Lucas said roughly trying to explain to her. He was even more confused now.

"No. They're real." Amay said almost as lost as he was. "Do you really not know how our world works? You thought the Divine Serpents were a figure of speech. Wait is that human you say the name of real?"

"He's.....questionable if anything. Christian beliefs tell us he is." Lucas gave the short answer. "Wait. Don't flip this on me! How does this only Demi-humans and Divine Serpant thing work?" He asked even more invested.

"Well, for us they are really. It goes like this." Amay took a moment to raise up her right hand. "When it comes to us there are five levels. Demi-Animal, Demi-Human, Demi-God, Demi-Dragon, then Divine Serpents. Each one following in an order of power from animal to Divine Serpents. They are the ones to create our world and maintain magical balance for us." She said as she could see Lucas face light up with more interest.

"Woah. Man, I actually want to know more when we get back home." He told her as this new idea thinking started to make him think more. "I definitely have to ask mom about that later. "

"I do suggest you read up on some of our lore and history more," Amay said feeling a lot better after this talk. She then decided to put back on her sandals. "Anyway, my goal is to beat one of them. And to show...To say I'm the strongest Demi-Human around." She quickly fixed her wording.

"Huh. Okay then. I can respect that." Lucas said putting the canteen back in his backpack. With a deep breath, Lucas began to lift up his bag and placed it on his back. "Okay. I'm feeling better."

"Good. We will do another break within 2 hours. Hopefully, we get to the creature before sun down. If not we have all day tomorrow, and the third day." She reinformed him of the plan. While she felt bitter about the situation with Elizabeth, she found it hard to stay mad or have some grudge against her son.

"He has his moments." Amay told herself as her face just ever so slightly began to blush.

They soon began to walk together and started to talk about different things. While the walks became more harder to maneuver through, this didn't deter them from continuing on their path. As the evening light soon became dusk light, Amay had told Lucas to stop for the rest and set up camp for the approaching night.

Lucas, under the wisdom of Amay and Martha teachings, began to gather firewood while Amay started the fire. After a few tries, they successfully got the fire going and sat there under the warm heat. Steam left Lucas mouth as he didn't realize how much the temperature dropped.

"Jeez. It's getting cold," Lucas said as he started to rub his hands together near the flames. His eyes went over to Amay who hadn't taken her eyes off of the flames. "Hey. Amay. You good?" He called her attention.

"Huh? What?" Amay stammered back into real world as she made eye contact with Lucas.

"Are you good? You were kinda staring into that flame for a very good amount of time." He explained to her.

"Oh. I was just thinking about something from my past. It kinda fits the mood of now." She said almost feeling herself wanting to go back. "You should be heading to sleep. We may need to get up early tomorrow to make up for lost time." Amay kindly suggested to him.

"Yeah. You're right." Lucas said actual feeling a little tired. "What about you?"

"What about me?"

"Are you gonna have a moment....you know.."Lucas hinted at her. He knew she didn't want to talk about it, but was unsure if it would happen again or not.

A soft giggle came from Amay as she wasn't sure how to make of his worry. "Don't worry, I'm covering nightshift while you rest up. If I become stressed or anything I will get in that sleeping bag with you." She reassured him.

"Okay then." Lucas said while crawling into his sleeping bag. "Good night."His final words to her as he turned over to see.

"Goodnight," Amay said a soft chuckle. A soft smile rested on her face as she looked back into the fire. A soft sigh left her mouth, while the smile faded away. In it's place a look of longing and sadness.

Amay could hear the faint voice of Elizabeth telling her all kinds of cool things and funny jokes she picked up along the way. As her focus became more on the fire, Amay started to see different things. She could see different memories of a time she enjoyed the most. She remind camp stories, late night parting, meals together, listening to the wild life and just enjoying her time. The final thought that she longed for and hoped would happen again was her younger kid self sitting by the fire for the first with a much younger Elizabeth.

She remembered how pulled back and reserved Elizabeth was and how naive and so young she was to now. Elizabeth only allowed her to come along, even when she putting herself in danger, because she needed a partner and friend.

This brought a tear to Amay's eyes as she wished to have one more moment like those, but now she was hear with her son. She couldn't help but chuckle at this situation.

"It's ironic. Isn't it Lizzy?" Amay thought to herself while looking up at the moon. The same one Elizabeth was looking at as well.

Somewhere in a different place at a different time.

A lone figure in a suit with a glass of red wine in his hand looked over the bright lights of the city. He was calm and reserved as if planning for his next move in a game. His eyes looked over the city looking down at them and judging. Just then the soft tap of heels wiggled into his ears.

"Sir." The young business dressed woman said entering his room.

"Has project little spider made it yet?" He asked not turning around to acknowledge his helper.

"Yes, sir." The assistant said in a clear voice.

"Good. Inform her not to attack just yet." Mr. K said taking a sip of his wine.

"Yes sir." The assistant said again before turning to do what she was told.

A long sigh left his mouth and caused the window to steam. "The pieces are almost in line."
