Crackle!
Lightning struck the ground, igniting flames. I looked up to see that the instructor had fired an advanced lightning spell. I could still see the magic formations he created slowly fading away. The Diverso was engulfed in a large cloud of smoke.
"Amazing. So this is the strength of an A-rank magician?"
The examiner spun his cane and then returned to his normal stance. He took a deep breath, then exhaled. If I were to guess his energy level, it would be around a hundred million, or even more! His power level can't be more than a billion though, that's the lowest energy level for an S-rank and this man doesn't have the smell of an S-rank. I know that because I've met an S-rank before.
A man once visited my house. He was a friend of dad's and the aura he gave off was so intense, I could've choked. I don't know what his name was because he only visited for a few minutes, then he left. My dad never told me his name, but I can remember how I almost died just by being near that man. That was when I couldn't control my enhanced magic sense. My magic sense is basically the only thing that I've been practicing. It could be the reason why I'm lacking in magic, but it's a useful skill.
"Fufu, before reinforcement shows up, I think I can kill you before they even arrive."
The examiner said. He took his long coat off and threw it to the side. He was wearing light armor made from lead and fiber material.
You may be asking. Why is he wearing an armor made of lead and not like a bulletproof vest? That's because lead is a major component in magic. Lead can dampen magic, making it less and weak. Of course, it doesn't affect the user's use in magic, it only helps with spells that are directed at that person. It's a must-have as Diversos are elemental monster animals that release magic energy.
The examiner tossed his cane into the air and it shifted forms. When it landed in his hand, it was now the form of a rapier. This guy must be a close-ranged fighter.
"I, Kinichi Makazo, will personally execute you. You should be honored."
A slight pause. The Diverso slowly emerged out of the smoke, walking towards Kinichi. Even though it took an advanced spell head-on, it was unscathed. It still had the golden glint that its scales made.
The Diverso stood across Kinichi. The two stared at each other and the stadium ground began to rumble. The flames that the lightning had caused were slowly spreading.
"Oh shit, the fire is spreading."
"Tatsuo, let's go onto the bleachers. I think there is an exit somewhere above."
"Oh right."
I almost forgot what we were doing. Watching this fight overruled escaping.
"How about you find it, then let me know when you do?"
"Ok, but be careful. I don't want you doing anything ridiculous."
What? Does she not trust me?
"Elaine, out of ten, how much trust do you have in me right now?"
"3."
"Look, I'll be fine. I'm not that dumb."
She gave me a worried expression, but she eventually complied. She ran towards the bleachers and used air magic to boost herself.
I'd move a few feet up the staircases that I found. This is my first time watching a fight between a Diverso from a Void and an A-rank Magician.
Now, while we were busy figuring out where the exit was, the two had engaged. Kinichi boosted himself towards the Diverso and the Diverso caught Kinichi. Kinichi aimed his rapier at the Diverso's face, but the Diverso evaded the rapier and jumped back.
This was a bit weird. Do all Diverso's that come from Voids move like this? No, the first Diverso that appeared from a Void was enormous, it almost wiped out an entire city. That happened a long time before I was born and it was in the United States.
The meteor that caused the appearance of Diversos may have granted creatures mutations that make them lethal, but it didn't affect their intelligence. Current scientists have made a theory that the Diversos that appear from Voids are creatures from another world. Though there is barely any evidence, it is widely supported and those that oppose the theory can't do anything but accept it.
Kinichi created several magic formations in front of him. All glowing a variety of colors. He can't be, he's casting every single elemental spell at one go? Yes, he may have a lot of magic power in him, but it requires an intense amount of concentration. It's not so easy for an A-rank to master, but an S-rank could with just the right amount of training.
"Eat this!"
Then myriads of water, lightning, fire, multiple glowing lights, and elements flew towards the Diverso. The Diverso positioned itself as if it was going to take the attacks head-on. But suddenly it let out a bloodcurdling roar that diminished the attacks that were aimed at him.
"Gaaaaaaaao!!!"
Not only that, it let out such a powerful force that it caused the ground to explode. Dirt and Stone flew everywhere. I hid behind the staircase walls to avoid the debris.
"Compulsive..."
Kinichi uttered as he smiled grimly.
"Let's see, a new species that can nullify magic with a roar? Fascinating, you must be the next evolution of a Diverso. Probably the first intelligent one. I should give you a name fitting of your appearance."
Kinichi chuckled.
"How about, Drakon?"
The Drakon made what sounded like a monstrous sigh. It sounded almost like a growl.
"I'll reckon that's a yes."
Kinichi dashed towards the Drakon and rapidly thrusted his blade. The Drakon dodged and weaved the blade just as it was about to hit it. These movements, they are so similar to that of a human. How could a Diverso, specifically one from a void, have this kind of intelligence?
WHAM!
A loud noise echoed through the stadium. A tremendous gust of wind blew me back onto the upper bleachers.
What just happened?
I looked over the railing and saw that the Drakon had its fist up Kinichi's stomach, while Kinichi's rapier was only a few inches away from the Drakon's head.
GRAM!!!
It instantly moved its fist at Kinichi's chin and launched him a few feet into the air. When he landed, he created a small crater measuring about two meters. Kinichi twitched for a bit, but then went limp.
The Drakon blew some steam out from the side of its jaw. Its blue glowing eyes shone brighter. It roared, and the stadium shook.
"Graaaaaaaaaaaah!!!"
How could this thing be so powerful? The energy level I'm sensing from this thing is near the power of a B-rank. If so...
How can it Knockout an A-rank?
The Drakon looked around for a moment until it saw me. I gulped and turned around to flee, but then the Drakon appeared right in front of me, leaving a trail of white mist. I would fall backward, but the Drakon caught me by my coat collar. Its claws ripping through my coat.
It would open its mouth, smoke emanating onto the skin of my face. It felt so hot and smelled like... mint? Do Diversos have breath fresheners in their world? If so, that's kind of... I don't even know.
Back to reality, the inside of its mouth was glowing a bright blue color. Is it going to kill me?
Crackle~
But the light suddenly died down when a lightning bolt struck the Drakon.
Bam!
The bolt struck the Drakon on the side of its face. Of course, it wasn't affected, but that made it let go of me. It shifted its attention towards where the bolt came from.
I also looked that way, and Elaine stood there with her hand out. She made a purple formation and out came out purple lightning.
Purple lightning? To think she can conjure up an advanced grade of lightning magic. She must've trained super hard when she was away.
The Drakon blocked the lightning with its wing and its wing became tattered. Ripped holes in its wings which gave off the smell of smoke. Or maybe that's just the stadium since it's been burning for the past few minutes.
The Drakon stared at its battered wings. Elaine clutched the handle of her sword and ran up to the Drakon.
"Lightning Flash Strike!"
Her sword was encircled with glowing lights and then lightning bolts. She jumped up in the air, delivering a downward strike. However, the Drakon shifted to the side, Elaine's attack being made ineffective.
Elaine glared at the Drakon and the Drakon stared at her, shaking its head. Shaking its head?
Suddenly, the Drakon kicked Elaine in the stomach and she flew into the air.
"ELAINE!!!"
I did the stupidest thing. I climbed the railing and jumped into the air, catching Elaine. We'd land onto the stairs, my back hitting the edges of the stairs.
Crack!
"Ack!"
I'd let go of Elaine and clung onto my chest. Shit, I must've broken some bones doing that. The pain's coming from my lower ribs. Elaine slowly regained her posture, and she glanced at me.
"You didn't have to do that."
She said in a worrying voice.
"My body acted on its own. I'm sorry, just let me rest here. It hurts."
Elaine gritted her teeth and stood up. She looked at the Drakon, who was watching over the railing. Its eyes radiated a cold glare. I'd notice Elaine trembling, and she'd try to walk up the stairs, but instead she walked backward.
We can't fight this thing! It's beyond our comprehension. A Diverso that's this smart and not only that, it's a B-rank! Elaine is nowhere compared to the level of a B-rank. And this thing knocked out an A-rank!
The Drakon opened its mouth and slowly blue light glowed again. This is it, we're done. We're just gonna die like that, at the hands of a Diverso. I'm sorry mom, looks like I won't be coming home tonight.
Then, as it seemed to be glowing at its brightest, I heard the whirling sound of a helicopter rotor.
Chuff-Chuff-Chuff!
I looked up and dropping from the ceiling were people wearing magic force uniforms. The reinforcements that Mr. Kinichi said we're coming had arrived.
But sadly they were too late because I could hear the whirring sound coming from the Drakon.
Bbbmm!
I'd turn around, and a bright light blinded me.
And then everything went dark.
