Darkness...
It was the only thing I saw.
I was walking through this place. There was nothing to be seen in sight.
Whenever I looked down at the floor, it would seem that I was walking on top of the ocean and the moon reflecting off the water. But whenever I look up, there is nothing but the color black.
I'd wander around with no place to go. Why am I here? Is this the place you go after death? Or is this just a dream?
No, I remember that I was hit by whatever that "Drakon" had used on me. I didn't feel any pain though. Well, I was probably blown to smithereens. Maybe I am dead and this is the place where I'll live my afterlife in.
"You are not dead."
A voice echoed to me. Huh? What was that voice?
"Wake up, you are not dead."
The voice began to sound louder and clearer. It was the voice of a man. It was deep and smooth.
"Wake up you shitty brat!"
Suddenly, his voice suddenly became distorted, maybe demonic-like. It came from my back. As soon as I turned around, I saw the cold blue eyes of the Drakon staring deep into my soul.
"AHHHH!!!"
I shot up and cold sweat trickled down the side of my cheek. I'd take a look at my surroundings. There were other people in beds and they seemed to be injured. Ahh, so that was a dream huh?
"Tatsuo, are you ok?"
I look to my right and Elaine was sitting next to me with an arm cast. Did she injure her arm during the fight with the Drakon? W-wait a minute. My memory is a bit blurry. If I recall, I was hit with a bright light. Was that not an attack? What happened to that Drakon?
"I'm alright."
I'd give her a smile, and she gave a sigh of relief.
"I'm curious. What happened?"
I'd ask, and she told me everything.
Yesterday, the Drakon for some unknown reason and exploded. To break it down, cracks appeared all over its body. When it blasted that ray of light at me, it crumbled into dust and the light just filled the stadium. When the light died down, I was found unconscious and then brought here.
That really confused me, because I thought that was an attack. So it was charging up a self destruct move? That is kind of dumb.
Well, I should just be thankful that I'm still here.
"Say, is your arm alright?"
I mentioned and Elaine clutched it.
"I'll be alright, the doctor says that it'll heal in a weak."
"That's good."
"But I'm worried about you. You must've broken some of your ribs, right?"
"Yeah, it doesn't hurt much."
I'd lay down. I can still feel the pain coming from my ribs. Ack, I shouldn't move for a while.
Magic-Borns have a quicker regenerative healing factor than people in the past. Back then, a broken arm would take at least 6 weeks to heal completely. But now, a broken arm could be healed in a week or less if healing magic was applied.
"Well, today was a crazy day. I should get some rest. You too, Elaine."
"Alright."
I'd close my eyes and try to take a rest, but suddenly interrupted when I heard my mother's voice.
"Tatsuo!"
I'd look towards my mom, who was accompanied by Mr. Sidovora. She came up to me and gave me a hug.
"Ah, mom, not so hard please."
"Oh, sorry."
Mr. Sidovora hugged Elaine.
"My sweet girl!!! Sniff."
W-was he... crying? Never seen a grown man cry before.
"Dad, I'm alright. Stop making such a scene."
Mr. Sidovora wiped his tears away and sighed.
"It's a good thing you are alright. You too Tatsuo. Who knows what would've happened if Takehito would've done to me if you were severely injured."
Mr. Sidovora was trembling a bit. Jeez, is my dad that scary? There isn't any need to worry about him. When he leaves for work, he doesn't come back until after at least two weeks past. Then he takes a three-day break, then goes back to work. It must be busy being a part of the Magic Force.
If I recall, he said he would be overseas for work. So he would come back in like... a month or longer depending on what he was sent overseas to do.
"No need to worry dad. Oh, I have a question. What's going to happen with our exams now since it was interrupted."
Emilia mentioned and I suddenly got goosebumps. I completely forgot about our exams. Did we do good? More specifically, did I do good? Did I fail? Do I have to do the whole entire exam again? My running plan didn't really work, those Lupis were a bit faster than I expected. Should've thought of a better plan.
"Well about that..."
Mr. Sidovora reached for his jacket and pulled out an envelope. He'd handed the envelope over to Emilia. When Emilia opened the envelope, she pulled out a letter and once she read the whole thing, she got up from her chair and pumped her fist.
"YES! I GOT IN!"
She showed me her letter and there was a [PASS] stamp marked at the bottom of the paper.
"Congratulations!"
My mother complimented her. Mr. Sidovora got up from his chair and hugged his daughter tightly.
"Ow dad, watch out."
"Oh sorry. Good job."
I couldn't help but feel happy for her. Good thing she got in and not the schools that take in those that failed. Well, I must admit, she did hold her ground standing up to that Drakon and that was pretty brave of her. Hmm, they were pretty quick too. They usually deliver the acceptance letters two or three days after the exam. They were pretty quick.
Now, where is my letter? I probably failed, didn't I?
"Here you go."
"Huh?"
I looked over at mom and as if she read my mind, she was holding a letter in her hands. I took the letter from her hands and looked at it. This is what it read:
[Dear Mitsuo Tatsuo,
On behalf of Exodus Magic Academy, I am happy to congratulate you on successfully passing our entrance test. You have scored exceptionally well on your test. I believe after seeing your scores, you are well qualified to enter our school. There will be an entrance ceremony to welcome our first-years in two weeks.
Three days before the entrance ceremony, your uniform will be delivered to you.
Once again, congratulations on passing the test. We hope to see you there. Thank you for choosing Exodus Magic Academy.
Sincerely,
Tamaki Hiroshi Principal of Exodus Magic Academy...
PASS]
When I saw the big red [PASS] at the end, I jumped up and shouted:
"ALRIGHT!!!"
...
I'd look around and everyone was staring at me. Oh, I must've been loud. I'd clear my throat and lie back down. Ouch, my ribs.
"Congratulations Tatsuo."
Elaine said as she gave me a smile. I'd smile back at her. I must've been lucky if I was able to pass this entrance exam. Someone with a PL of 100 should have failed that. So it's a surprise for someone like me to pass the exam.
Though if it was a written exam that required knowledge, I would've passed... barely. Not really good with English. I hope there isn't any English in high school. Nah, there will probably be English, along with math, Japanese, science, etc.
Yes, even after many years, those subjects still exist.
After a few hours, it started to get dark.
"It's dark, we should get going soon."
Mother said as she looked out of the window. Mr. Sidovora and Elaine agreed, and they all began to leave while saying goodbye to me.
I'd wave them goodbye and laid back on the bed.
The doctor said I would need at least a week for my bones to regenerate. Guess I'll be staying in the hospital for a while.
Though... I must say, that dream I had earlier was a bit weird. I've never heard any voice like that. That Drakon was a bit weird. Why didn't it kill us? When it was fighting Mr. Kinichi, it didn't show any signs of fighting back and when it did, instead of killing Mr. Kinichi, it just knocked him out. When it went after me, it could've killed me in an instant. The same goes for Elaine. It could've killed her but didn't.
After a long time of complicated thoughts, I'd eventually gave up and just went to sleep. Gonna have to find a way to kill time. Staying in the hospital for a week is gonna be boring.
