Chapter 24 - Chapter twenty three

"What is she doing here?" Carl whispers to Margaret, but Roselyn can hear it and blush lightly.

"I called her because I wanted to show you her capabilities. But meantime, you can sit with us and have dinner. I bet you're quite hungry." She smiles.

Roselyn looks around, but no chair were available. She feels so embarrassed with everyone staring at her; she was regretting even going there.

Andreas moves his chair towards the corner of the room and snaps his finger, making appear a chair near him.

Roselyn quickly reaches it and sits down.

Everyone was still gazing at her, Margaret clears her voice and they look away, starting chatting as if nothing had happened.

Roselyn sighs with relief. But Andreas was still staring at her.

"What are you doing here?" He says with clenched teeth.

"She called me and I wanted to help."

He rolls his eyes.

The server reaches the table before he can say anything and hands Roselyn a menu.

She looks through the menu when Carl asks, "so Roselyn? Have you ever met your mother?"

She swallows hard, trying to think of a suitable answer before looking at him.

"No, I haven't. But she used to call me.." She looks at him, worried he could read her soul just by staring at her.

"Do you know all the stories about her?" He says with a grin on his face.

Andreas' tenseness could be perceived since he leaves his fork fall on the dish abruptly.

"You don't have to be an asshole every time you get the chance, Carl." His gaze was furious, which makes Roselyn glad seeing him defending her, but disappointed for having found out he kept something about her mom from her, again.

"Roselyn, I suggest you ordering the vegetarian lasagna, it's so good." Margaret says breaking the tension.

"Okay, thanks." Rose nods.

The dinner carries on with normal chatting, Roselyn barely talks but spends most of the time just enjoying the food.

When they leave the restaurant, silence falls as everyone was waiting for Margaret to talk.

Andreas was walking near Roselyn, watching everything she was doing.

"Rose, are you ready?" Margaret lower her voice, catching everyone's attention.

Roselyn's heart races, still she nods lightly. She was trying her best to seem confident when deeply down she was scared to death.

She shapes a circular light portal and walks through it. Roselyn takes a deep breath bur Andreas takes her arm preventing her to follow Margaret.

"Wait" he whispers.

Everyone walks through the portal, and the only left ones are Andreas and Roselyn.

"Be careful. Choose what to do smartly. Try not to be yourself."

"What? Why no?."

He moves his hand hastily "try to do the RIGHT thing to do, Roselyn. The best thing to do. Now go." He says with a brusque tone.

She walks through the portal.

They appear in the usual wood where Roselyn used to test her powers with Andreas.

"We can proceed like you normally do with Andreas." Margaret says

Andreas moves his hands shaping a vast circle from where snowflakes come from and fall on the threes creating a wonderful view.

An almost invisible door appears in the middle of the snow, Roselyn recognizes it immediately, it was her home front door.

"When ready, you can open it." He says looking at her lightly nodding.

His voice becomes lower than usual when nervous.

Roselyn waits few seconds to think about what he said and tries to imagine what she might find on the other side of the door.

She opens the door slowly; it creaked exactly like her home door.

When it's fully open a blinding light causes her to cover her eyes with her hands but, then it fades away as soon as it appears.

Roselyn was at her home, Christmas songs were played on the radio and her home was full of Christmas decorations.

She smiles hugely, she couldn't believe she came back home.

She walks in the living room where she sees a not so familiar figure placing some food on the table.

That lady turns around and when she sees Roselyn smiles hugely.

"Honey. You're early. I just made lunch."

When Rose recognizes her, she immediately feels confused.

It was Angelina.

She was in an ulterior dimension in which Angelina never abandoned her.

"How was school?" Her mother asks, but Roselyn doesn't reply. She was still in a confused mental state.

She wonders what she had to do. The first thing she would do is to ask Angelina about her adoptive mother, but Andreas' words echo in her head. She had to be careful not to be identified as evil.

After a few seconds Roselyn replies, "It was okay. I'm so hungry." She shows a smile, trying to look around the room to see if something was different.

All the family portraits were replaced with photos of her and Angelina and the house all in a sudden seemed so unfamiliar and unrecognized to Roselyn.
