One week. It has been one week ever since I did it and not even an inkling of suspicion was raised on me. On the contrary they all blame it on the supernatural. I am not sure if I should be happy or worried because of it. On one hand I don't have to worry about my family anymore because of my impulsive decision. On the other I don't like how easy this was. With less restrictions on my powers than before and them being a hidden wildcard I have a much bigger range of action than I could ever imagine and, to be honest, I don't like the fact that I have so many possibilities to abuse my powers. At least some good did come of it.
I am sure you are aware of what happened on the 11th with Crimson Star Company's ship White Unicorn and how only one crew member survived whatever happened to them. I will admit this right here that I was the sole person responsible for the incident. I was the necromancer that managed to kill every crew member except one and have done so without anyone finding out about my identity or even discovering me. I never expected my first time doing would have gone so well.
As an officer I rarely saw active combat and even in TSF Ethereal I was in charge and never did any field work. Only because I was the first person who developed necromancer abilities have I continued to learn and develop my abilities. I will point out that currently I have no access to anything related with necromancy so I can't compare my abilities to this world's necromancy. There is a rumoured group of wandering necromancers present on this island, but not only have they not appeared up here in the north for months, I wouldn't have done this knowing they might find out the truth.
Now I should explain what exactly has happened on that evening. Crimson Star Company's ships often stop at the port here for supplies and rest. The sailors do mostly behave, but there are some rumours about them, the worst of which being that they are conducting illegal slavery. As part of my research of the world I have confirmed that slavery has been outlawed with the only exception being the indenture servitude. I am curious on how that work, but that's beside the point.
In any case, my curiosity got the better me so when White Unicorn landed in the port I wanted to check if the rumours were true. Thankfully the moonless night helped me with this. A drunk sailor was returning back to ship. It's not hard to imagine that a drunk man would slip and fall into the ocean, am I right? It was easy using the telekinesis to push him into the sea and keep him underwater. After that, the task of turning him into undead and getting the info I need was a piece of cake.
I can also thank the ship's and even the town's position for helping me out. Not only was the ship moored at the far end of the port and was isolated, guessing they wanted the privacy, but the town is located in the frostlands so we are in the eternal winter. Most people won't be out in the evening unless they have to like me. Due to an incident with my brother Ferlin I usually practice my magic alone in the evening when I am not studying with others and due to my abnormal resistance towards cold it doesn't bother me.
But back to the point. It was so easy for me to get the information I needed from him with my abilities, I didn't even break a sweat. I didn't even need him to be alive which was good thing since when he actually confirmed that the rumours were true, I felt so much anger and neatly tore him apart. My hatred for slavers is quite recent and quite strong as it appears. A rather worrisome thought for me since I would have expected a better control of my emotions, but that's something I will worry about later.
Anyway after I ordered the sailor to breathe to get water out of lungs, because I don't want to bother with CPR to revive him, and so he was quickly brought back to life. I hid myself in a corner so that he didn't notice me nor ask me why he was there, why he was wet or what I was doing in the side street. He also didn't need to know that I could still make him obey my orders even if he was alive. That came in really handy the next night when I attacked the ship.
He was sleeping in medbay because he caught a cold. A simple possession made him my obedient servant. While he was killing the ship's doctor, I was busy killing the sailor on patrol duty. Nothing too much, just using telekinesis from a long distance since I didn't want risk getting caught. With three men under my control I unleashed complete chaos unto the unsuspecting crew.
Every time one of them died I would raise him and add another one under my control. In the end I left one alive to tell what has happened and to deliver my warning to the company for doing illegal slavery. This was my first big test of my abilities in a decade. I wish I could have tested them more and see if I am as powerful as before, but I need more bodies at once to experiment that and I am not that crazy to do it. At least I know the possession works perfectly since every crew member sang in unison.
I should explain that the main point of corpses under my control singing is to see how good am I at controlling them. If they are able to sing to sing in a perfect unison, then I know I am in full control of them which is good to know with large groups. The fact that it often scares and confuses the enemy, like in the case with lone survivor, is simply a side effect.
The aftermath of this was as I had expected. The people were shocked at what happened. The garrison was called in to cordon off the area around the ship and the investigation is still in progress as I write this. Sadly I can't find out anything about it since nobody is foolish enough to talk about this to a curious 10-year old. The only scraps of information I have managed to find are: they have confirmed that ship was dealing in illegal slavery and they had a commission for something or someone called Ti'Haran.
I am not curious enough to risk entering the garrison quarters to find out more nor stupid enough to do the same to a guard so I will leave this in the hands of people who should have reacted earlier. At the very least the person that inspected the cargo of the ship was arrested on the charges of bribery so some more good things did come out of this.
As for me, while I never revealed my abilities to my parents so I am not suspicious, I am banned from going out in the evening until this is resolved. That's fair to be honest so I won't argue with them. Other than all of this the only other thing of note has been the movement of the colonial army from Metzaca. If the rumours are true, they have defeated the main force of that bandit clan in the east. Since my parents are merchants, I did overhear some stuff. Merchants might soon look for opportunities down in the south since Prince Arius has taken the position of leader of Metzaca and so far he has been successful. There are even some rumours about reuniting with Metzaca. We shall see what happens next.
As I am finishing this entry, I realize that it was comforting to write this, to tell someone about the crime I commited. I also realize I barely revealed anything about my previous life. To be honest, until I am sure this incident with White Unicorn won't bite me in the ass, I won't reveal much of it. If I am forced to reveal the truth, I would prefer to reveal it face to face rather than go the coward's way with a written message.
