(Jaisley's POV)
"Hanna, you have to get up." I sit next to her on the bed and move her hair out of her face. She snuggles deeper into the covers.
"There's no reason for me to get up. I have no way of helping anyone," she whispers. She's been in this mood since Chris was arrested. We haven't found anything that can help get Chris and Anne out of this sticky situation and it's taking a toll on Hanna.
She feels useless.
"We'll find something that can help them, but we won't find it if you stay in bed all day," I tell her. She sits up in the bed and growls in frustration.
"What are we going to do? I'm tired of sitting here and not being able to help. Arsenio and Giovanni are being idiots. I know Anne and Chris have to be innocent," she says, finally yelling out her frustration. The tips of her ears turn red. I prefer this Hanna over the sad and quiet Hanna.
I kiss her cheek and it seems to calm her down.
"I'm going to find something that can help. Don't stress yourself out," I try to reassure her. I hear my phone vibrating on the bedside table and go over to pick it up. The contact name reads Alaric.
"Alaric, what's up?" He doesn't call me often, but when he does, it's always something urgent.
"Giovanni is arresting Anne's dad right now. I can't let this keep happening. I need your help," Alaric says fast over the phone.
I look over at Hanna and I know she can hear what he's saying. Her ears perk up at the sound of possibly being useful.
"Hanna and I will help."
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
"Let go of me! I demand real justice!" Anne's father, Greg, struggles as he tries to get out of the guard's hold. The guards seem to be having a hard time keeping a hold of him. They pull Greg from out of the car and try to drag him up the steps of the higher court.
Hanna and I stand still in front of the higher court doors like guards. Our faces like steel and our stance rooted to the ground. Our shoulders straight like the perfect guards. The guards we knocked out to get these guard outfits are hidden in a cemetery. They're not dead, but they're out of our way so this plan can work.
"Get a hold of him," one of the guards yell at the other one. Greg must be very strong, fighting against two werewolves. He is the one that taught Anne her combat skills after all.
Hanna and I let the guards struggle with Greg for a couple more minutes before deciding to take mercy on them.
"We'll handle him from here," I tell them and the three of them stop to look at me. I send Greg a wink and he tries to hide his smirk. One of the guards scoff.
"Oh really? You think you two can handle him better than us," the guard asks. Hanna glares at him.
"I can hardly see you handling him at all," Hanna answers sarcastically. She couldn't help herself. She knows one thing that werewolves value the most is their pride, so she hit them where she knew it would hurt the most.
"It's orders from Kora," I tell them, knowing they'll have to pass Greg over to us now. They can't disobey anyone on the higher court, and that includes Kora, the vampire head of the higher court. They've forgotten it's not only Giovanni on the higher court.
There are two other heads, Kora and Cassandra. Cassandra is the witch representative. I'm surprised she hasn't shown up yet. She has to be consulted first before any witch can be arrested. It's like they've given all higher court power to Giovanni.
"Then take the prisoner. It'll be funny to see how much you struggle to take him to his cell," the other guard snickers. They throw Greg over to us and we grab him by his two arms. Greg pretends to struggle a little and we restrain him. Hanna sends a smug smirk to the guards.
They look like they're seconds away from biting Hanna's head off, so I open the door to the high court and step inside with Greg and Hanna before I have to kill wolves that try to harm my Hanna.
When we distance ourselves enough from the guards and walk down the empty hallway to the cell room, I start talking.
"We have a plan, Greg," I tell him.
"We don't have a lot of time, so make it quick. We have to fix all of this," he says.
"We're going to find Anne, but you'll have to do your part from inside the jail," Hanna tells him. We walk slowly and keep our voices down to not draw suspicion.
"What do I have to do?"
"We're going back to New York to see if anything there can lead us to Anne. While you're here you have to do everything in your power to distract Giovanni. Start riots, kill guards, do anything," I tell him.
"Try getting Cassandra out of hiding. You might have to commit some serious crimes. Anything to get the other heads of the higher court here. We'll find Anne, get the whole truth, and we'll have a fair trial for Chris and Anne," Hanna says.
I can feel Hanna is getting in a better mood now that there's something she can actually do to help. Don is gone and Alaric has no power to go against his father yet. Us three have to be the ones to put the pieces together. Hopefully when we find Anne, we'll get more pieces of the puzzle.
We walk down the steps to the dungeon like environment and almost reach our destination.
"Okay, I'll do what I can from in here." I open one of the cell doors and we look at the horrible conditions.
"Are you sure you'll be okay in here," Hanna asks Greg. We walk him into the stone covered room with leaky ceilings and moldy walls.
"Yeah. I'll be fine. Go find my daughter." Hanna chain his hands to the wall and I pull out a knife from my pocket. "What's that for," Greg asks, eying the knife in my hand.
"It's for when you plan your first attack." I hide the knife where no one will find it except for Greg. It's inside a stone that Greg can reach with his hands. All he has to do is slide the stone closest to his hand over and pull the knife out. He'll be able to pick the lock and attack the guards.
"Thank you," he says and I nod my head.
"Hanna, lets go."
We sneak back out of the higher court and prepare our disguise to get on a plane to New York.
