"What's that," I ask Cassandra. I see she's mixing up something in a mug. She walks over to the bed I'm sitting up on and passes it to me.
"It's some tea to help you produce milk. They say Fenugreek helps increase breast milk supply." I taste a little bit of Cassandra's contraption and smile as it warms my tummy.
"You make me sound like a cow," I joke and she laughs.
"I'm going to come right back. I have to make sure everything is set for the meeting." Cassandra leaves the room and I continue drinking my tea in silence.
Cassandra has a witch meeting planned for today. She told me that she heard of everything that's been going on in Berlin with the witches and made it her duty to help the witches stop the government from limiting them. She holds witch gatherings about three times a week so they can discuss some actions they can take. Her group has been growing over the months.
I hear the cry of a baby come from the wooden crib beside the bed. Ben built it for me while I was in labor. I put my tea down and stand up slowly, making sure not to rip my stitches. I move over to the baby in the crib and lift them out, holding them close to me.
The first time I held my baby in my hands, I was so scared. I didn't want to harm them. They looked so tiny and fragile. Their little fingers and toes. I just had the longest six hours of my life in labor a couple of days ago, but once I had her in my arms, I forgot about those hours of torment and just cried about how I didn't deserve this beautiful human being.
I try to sooth her as she looks at me with her pretty hazel eyes that had a little tint of green. Her full head of black hair and bushy eyebrows. She has Alaric's nose and my mouth. I feel like I'll never breathe again if this baby is ever harmed.
Cassandra smiles at my cute baby girl as she comes back into the room. I feel my daughter's skin and it's almost burning hot. My heart almost drops out of my chest at the thought of her being sick.
"Do you think she has a fever," I ask Cassandra, feeling my babies head as she continues to cry. Her face is formed in a cute little pout.
"No. You told me her dad is a werewolf, so since she's part wolf, it's normal for her temperature to be higher. A full wolf cub might have an even higher temperature," she says. She puts a pacifier in the baby's mouth and it soothes her automatically.
"I tried the pacifier before and it didn't work," I tell Cassandra. She gives me a sneaky look.
"A little trick I learned. I added some Blue Borage to it. It's a little flower that tastes like honey."
"You're an angel, Cass," I thank her. The bedroom door opens and Ben and Emi walks in.
"Can I hold Angie," Emi asks, jumping up and down in excitement. She sits down on the bed and I place Angie in her arms. Angie is sleeping again with the pacifier in her mouth. Emi looks down at her like she has received the best present of her life. Surprisingly, Emi has been a lot of help with Angie. She mostly sticks by my side to help me with anything.
"The meeting is about to start. Is it ok if Emi stays with you," Ben asks.
"Yeah. She can be my little helper," I say. Ben and Cassandra leave to go downstairs and I walk around the room. I've never been a person that could sit still or wait in silence. With a week old baby, you can't really do much. They just eat, sleep, and cry.
Emi places Angie in the crib and sits on the bed, watching her. I was surprised she didn't just walk out of here in boredom. I'm definitely getting all twitchy from not doing anything.
"Emi can you keep a close eye on her. I'm going to go upstairs to listen to the meeting a little bit. Call me if anything happens." Emi smiles and nods her head, so I leave the room. I walk upstairs slowly, wanting to fill my curiosity on what they're discussing.
"We have enough people here now to fight back," I hear Cassandra say to the group sitting in front of her. I hear a lot of disagreements swim through the sea of people.
"Do we really want to risk it? In the beginning people tried fighting back, but that didn't do anything. They were taken to be killed. That's the reason we stopped fighting in the first place," I hear someone from the crowd says.
"We'll just be putting our children in danger. Last week they busted into a school full of children and took two little boys," another person said. This group is filled with cowardice witches.
I could see Cassandra's face dropping into one of hopelessness. I know she's been trying her best to get these people to fight back, but they didn't want to.
"Isn't the whole reason you guys are even here is because you want your freedom back," I say out loud and all of their heads turn my direction. I couldn't hold it in. "I would think the horrible way they treat you guys would make you want to fight back harder. Your kids are being dragged out of school and you decide to just let it happen?"
Some of them drop their heads in shame. Cassandra sends me a grateful smile that I'm finally making the crowd realize they need to fight. I walk towards the front of the room where Cassandra is and stand right next to her.
"You guys are witches and magic is what you are. If you can't use magic, then who are you? What are you teaching your children if you don't fight back? To run away scared and let the bully win," I continue on. They all listen to me speak. I can feel the minds filled with doubts start to shift.
"What you guys should be asking Cassandra is what's the plan," I finish. No one objects and Cassandra pats my back in thanks.
"I think we're all ready to do this," someone in the crowd says. Everyone starts to clap and agree. When they settle down Cassandra starts talking of the plan.
