Chereads / Crippling Love / Chapter 5 - Chapter

Chapter 5 - Chapter

'First day of hell... I don't want to get up but mom will come and make me any minute now. Sigh. Guess I'll wait for her I don't want to call her.' I sighed.

"Rise and shine baby!" Mom said entering my room.

"Good m-m-morning mom."

"Oh. You're already up?"

"Yeah... I'm a bit s-sc-sca– a-anxious about g-going to s-school..."

"I am too. I don't think you're ready but your fa- I mean Damien said it would be a good idea since you'll have Andy to protect you."

"Mom... Will you do anything he asks of you?"

"I will. I love him. I'm sure he loves you too." She said with a smile.

"I f-find that hard to b-b-believe."

"You'll believe when you give him a chance. Let's get you in the bath."

"...Okay."

'That man he treats her like a slave, takes her money and passes it off of love. I can't believe she believes his crap. He is the lowest of the low, the worst kind of person, barnacle scum.'

~Thirty Minutes Later~

"Are you done, honey?"

"Yes, m-mother."

"Now let's get you dressed and to the dining table."

"Yes."

'I need this. I need this education so I can get a good job and save my mother from this hell hole. I still can't believe she sold our house so she could move into his.'

"M-mom why so m-much f-food?"

"Because today's the first day of school. You boys need lots and lots of energy!"

Breakfast was a Carrot cake overnight oats and a breakfast burrito. The carrot cake overnight oats were already ready and in front of us but she was still making the breakfast burritos.

To make the carrot cake overnight oats she mixed grated carrot, spice and cinnamon with the oats, 150ml water and a pinch of salt, then cover and chill it in the fridge overnight. The next day she stirred honey and sultanas then topped it with Greek yoghurt.

To make the breakfast burrito she has to whisk the chipotle paste with the egg and some seasoning in a jug. Heat the oil in a large frying pan, add kale and tomatoes. Cook until the kale is wilted and the tomatoes have softened, then push everything to the side of the pan. Pour the beaten egg into the cleared half of the pan and scramble. Layer everything into the centre of your wrap, topping with the avocado, then wrap it up and serve immediately.

'Breakfast was delicious. I enjoyed every single bite but... I can't tell her that... Andy will make fun of me if I do.'

"Was it good?" Mom asked.

I nodded in response and so did Andy.

"Good. Enjoy your first day. Damien will drive you." She said wheeling me outside.

Those words rang in my head. That scum will be driving me. The exact thing that made me like this. If that happens again there's no chance I'll make it out alive... He probably wants to get rid of me..."

"Are you okay honey?" She asked a worried look on her face.

"Yes," I replied not wanting to worry her.

"Okay, Upsy Daisy." She said pushing up a ramp into the van.

"Here's your bag lunch is inside. Bye-bye now. See you later!"

The drive began and I tried to shake my anxiety about being in a vehicle again. Five minutes later the teasing began.

"Aww, little baby can't even buy his own lunch."

"S-shut up."

"That's no ways to talk to your father."

"Y-you are not my f-father."

"Oh yeah–"

"You shut up loser. Quit arguing with him. You know you won't get anywhere."

"..."

"Sigh. Oh, don't talk to me at school."

"W-what?"

"I mean you should pretend we're strangers that don't know each other."

"You're right he'll probably bring down your reputation."

~Thirty Minutes Later~

Andy went ahead and Damien left.

"Why hello there. You must be our new student Asher Angel. Right?" A teacher asked walking up to me.

"Yes."

"Very well. My name is Ms. Meyer. Anyway, let's get you to class." She said pushing me to class.

"Settle down everyone. You'll have to excuse my lateness. We have a new student. Would you like to introduce yourself?" Ms Meyer asked after settling down the class.

I furiously shook his head no.

"Come now. Don't be shy." She said patting my hair.

I looked at everyone in my class and I recognized no one. I shyly said "My... N-name's Asher A-angel. I'm f-fifteen."

"It seems he's a bit shy. Asher will be joining us for the rest of the year. He may be a little special but he's family now. Asher, take a seat next to that blonde boy with the green eyes there." Ms. Meyer said pointing to a boy with brown hair.

As I went over to my desk I felt like holes were being burnt into me. 'Jeez. Why are all these girls glaring at me? It's not like I'm going to steal him from them. What's so great about him anyway.'

"Why does this cripple get to sit next to Taylor!?" I heard many whispers like that but I didn't respond.

~Lunch Break~

"You have a problem with me?" He asked glaring at me.

"N-no?"

"Then quit sneaking glances." He said not even looking at me.

"You show him, Taylor!"

As I was about to leave I accidentally rolled over his foot.

"Ow! What the hell!?" He yelled.

"I'm s-sorry."

"Sorry isn't gonna cut it. I want compensation. They cost $25,000... Pay me in cash." He said with an evil smirk.

"I–"

"Hello~," Katelyn said skipping into class.

"What's she doing here!?" The jealousy girls angrily whispered.

"K-Katelyn!"

"Are you eating lunch with anyone?" She asked smiling.

"Nope. My schedule is completely free." He replied excitedly.

"Silence means yes in my book." She said hugging me from behind.

"I wasn't sil– You were talking to him!?" He yelled angrily.

"What's it to you?" Katelyn asked her arms still wrapped around me.

"N-nothing... But HE owes ME money." He countered.

"Money? Don't you already have all the money you could ever need Taylor? Why bother Asher?" Katelyn asked letting me go then gripping the handle of my wheelchair.

"Look what he did to my shoes!" He yelled pointing to his shoe which was only a little dirty with the wheelchair marks to be honest I was more worried about his toes and foot.

"So? They are just shoes." Katelyn stated obviously not caring about the situation.

"Expensive shoes!" He added.

"Then buy more 'expensive' shoes!" Katelyn said rolling her eyes.

"These are hard to find." He replied.

"I'm sure you'll find a way, Taylor. But that way is not going to include Asher." Katelyn said turning and leaving bringing me with her.

"How dare she!?" The jealous girls yelled out loud this time.

'Can you even please them? Being nice to him is wrong and being mean is just as bad. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. I don't get people like them... It's best to just avoid them and their precious idol.'

She pushed me to a flight of stairs then she put my wheelchair in a room under the stairs. Next, she piggybacked me up the stairs and we sat on the roof together.

"Phew. That class is full of jerks. I kinda feel bad for you." Katelyn stated.

"How?"

"Mmm? How I found you?" She asked.

"Y-yeah." I agreed.

"Well, you said you were fifteen. So I figured you be in the same grade as me so I just searched all the classes," she said scratching the back of her head.

"Oh."

"Why so quiet? It's only us up here." She said unpacking her lunch.

"Are we a-allowed up h-here? I asked, unpacking my lunch.

"Not really. I am because I'm part of the astronomy club but you're not. So don't come up here without me okay?"

" It's not l-like I c-can."

"Oh right. Haha. So how's school life so far?"

"All the g-girls h-hate me. I d-don't k-know a-a-anyone. My b-brother told m-me to p-p-pretend I don't k-know him."

"Oh, you got to sit next to Taylor right? Most of the girls in the class are obsessed with him. Because of that he has a massive ego and thinks everyone who looks at him either likes him or wants to fight him. I'm sorry you've had such cruddy luck."

"You and M-miss are the o-only ones t-that were n-nice to me t-today."

"Don't worry. If you don't make any friends you will always have me and the teachers should like you."

I nodded and smiled.

"People can be real jerks when you're different. They assume things that aren't true and won't believe what you tell them." Katelyn said staring at the clouds.

'Why? Why does she stay? Why does she understand me so well? Why is my face so red? Am I getting a fever?'

"Are you okay? You look a little red... Maybe we should get out of the sun?" Katelyn said placing her hand on my forehead.

"M-maybe."

"Are you sure you'll be fine by yourself?" Katelyn asked after taking be down the stairs and helping me back to my chair.

"Y-yeah."

"Okay. See you after school!" She said waving while heading to what I assume was her class.

"S-see you."

As soon as I entered the class I was faced with Taylor and two other guys I didn't know. There were also a few fangirls scattered around the classroom.

"So... New guy, what is she to you?" Taylor asked sitting on a desk.

"N-nothing?"

"Nothing, huh? Then why did she take you to have lunch with her?" Taylor asked to cross his arms. The other two were just there they didn't even look like they wanted to be there.

"B-b-because we're f-friends?"

"Oh yeah? Look at you shaking and stuttering haha."

'He thinks I'm stuttering because I'm scared? And what the heck I'm not shaking. Why'd I be scared of someone like him.'

"Let me just tell you this now. She's mine so back off." He said pointing at me.

"W-w-whatever." I said rolling my eyes.' You can't own a person. Besides, that's just a creepy thing to do when you don't even know how she feels.'

"Trying to act cool when you're scared? That won't work on me."

"I'm not s-scared."

"Now you're fricking ticking me off! Quit acting like you're tough shi–"

"Oh, Asher I almost forgot. If anyone makes fun of your stutter tell them to have a word with me. Okay? Bye now." As if she timed it she appeared at the right time cutting off Taylor then disappeared just as quickly.

"Why?" Taylor asked shock on his face. In fact, everyone in the room was shocked.

"Huh?" I asked confused.

"Why is she associating herself with you? Her reputation is already bad enough!" He yelled slamming his fist into a desk.

"Her r-r-rep-reputation?" I asked.

"Ugh! She already has enough problems by herself she doesn't need you dragging her down too. Anyway, this is a warning. If her bullying gets worse you'll be in the hospital got it." He threatened.

So obviously I avoided this guy as much as possible. Soon, school was over and I met Katelyn outside.

"Have you already told your parents you'll be coming home late?" Katelyn asked.

"I t-told my m-mother."

"Okay, then would you like to go somewhere else than the park?" She asked obviously wanting to go somewhere else.

"O-okay."

"Would you rather go to an arcade or café?" She asked smiling innocently.

"A c-café."

"I see so we're going to my favourite café. A cat café!" She said, excited.

"Cats?" I asked surprised that Katelyn was interested in cats.

"Yeah you're not allergic are you?" She asked, worried.

"No, I'm not A-all-allergic."

"Good."
