The sound of the rain echoed in his ear, as the raindrops is painted in the window sill. It is deep at night, the rain is still on it, and it already lasted for almost a week now. The sun may take a peek in the morning clouds but still hide in the gray thick clouds with a slight drizzle on them. Dimitri's eyes lay on the wet streets and jump to the street lights that are still lit up at this time of the night. Occasionally, he can see people under their umbrellas walking past his house.
It is already dark inside his house, but seeing him from behind, his image is visible enough to be seen without turning on the lights, thanks to the street lamps outside. His shadow is painted on the floor while sipping on his tea.
*Everyone is sleeping so soundly now.* Dimitri thought to himself and gave himself a deep sigh. With the cold weather, it should be perfect for deep slumber but sleepiness doesn't seem to visit on him. He's still wide he wants to but afraid of closing his eyes.
*Everytime I sleep is like a war for me. I am getting tired*
"Complicated case again huh." Annie's voice touched Dimitri's ear which made him smile gently and laid his tea on the study table. He silently walked towards her and sat beside her on the bed.
"Maybe." he answered with his mind still in deep thought. "Why dont you just go back to sleep? You still have a busy day tomorrow."
Dimitri asked as he gave Annie a deep stare and kissed her hand. He laid her hand on the bed and lay next to her.
"You're right, you're right. You should sleep now too love."
As the night has fallen so deep, the rain never stopped, Dimitri stared blankly at the wall with nothing on his mind. His eyelids are getting heavier which made him drift off to a quick slumber, as his sleep is getting deeper and deeper his breaths are getting heavy, the night is cold but beads of sweat continuously forming up to his temples. He clenched his hands into fists as his veins are showing into the back of his hands up to his arms. His toes curl up and his legs are shaking it's as if something is preventing him to move, he quickly opened his eyes and pulled himself to sit. The blankets were pulled down to the waist once he sat, he woke up catching his breaths and roaming his eyes around his room with a definite ounce of fear on them.
He gave Annie a quick gaze seeing her sleeping soundly beside him, he lift the covers gently, making it as silent as possible. Dimitri walked out of the room under the dark walls of his house, making his way through the staircase as can be seen without turning on the lights due to the gleaming streetlights from the outside. Before he could make it down to the living room, he glanced at his room and walked towards the bathroom in his kitchen. There, he turned the lights on seeing himself in the mirror. Dimitri can see the dark bags under his eyes, and his messy hair that looked well on his black tight eyes. He rubbed his big palms on his face just before he turned the faucet on, letting the flowing water stream down on the bathroom sink. He cupped enough water to wash his face to wake himself up continuously.
"I need to sleep." he whispered as he came to a thought facing the mirror with his face still dripping from water.
"I need to sleep"
"I need to sleep."
"I need to sleep!"
"I need to sleep!"
Repeated words came out from Dimitri's mouth; from a whisper to a violent tone of speaking those words. He kept repeating the same phrase as he clenched his fists with his veins on it almost bursting from a pressure strength. "I kept getting killed."
He whispered as his anger came rushing down. "Why don't you let me sleep?!" Dimitri shouted and crumpled himself on the floor. He scooched himself in the corner feeling the cold tile walls in his back.
"Let me sleep. Please."
He whispered as he felt himself drifting off to sleep. The next morning, all he felt was a big ounce of relief as he instantly towards his room as soon as he woke up and checked if Annie is up. He gave himself a big sigh of relief as all he saw was her, still asleep. As he is preparing the breakfast many thoughts dribble on his head. This uneasiness; didn't escape Annie's view as she keeps on noticing Dimitri's actions.
"Where did you sleep last night?" she asked.
Silence drenched the room having Annie's question left unanswered making her so pissed.
"Hey Im asking you a question." Annie seriously added and brought all her finished dished in the sink.
"Is this because, you don't want me here? You've been going on about not sleeping in the same bed unless we're married."
Dimitri kept quiet and continued doing his things. He never gave her a glance, his head kept on ringing ever since he woke up which made him a little more serious.
"Thoughts on the cases again?! Can you at least snap out of it? I am here love! In front of you!" Annie shouted at him. This time, she got his eyes and attention.
"Sorry, what were you saying?"
"Sorry? That's all I get?!" she scoffed.
"That's it, I'm tired." Annie spouted as if on cue she stomped her feet off the chair grabbed her things and went off. Dimitri was left indulged in the silent kitchen all alone. At last, the sun came up that peeked through his windows. He was done doing all of his morning routine as he is only fixing his suit when he got a call. He quickly picked his phone up to answer.
"Yes?"
"See you later bro, in the museum convention." The man on the line started.
"Yeah, you dont have to call me."
"Just reminding you." He laughed.
"Ok Im on my way. Thanks."
