The Narrator
Not too long ago a young girl by the name Katelyn was in love with someone, back then she believed in it all. You know those small gestures, dinner dates and the romantic gifts. These things you would mostly get on Valentine's Day
Katelyn hated all of those things because it was just a façade everyone had to put up with to cover the actual reason to why they were together, the lust and chemical attraction. It all came down to those two things. People tend to believe that they are in love, well not her. She does not see the point in it all. When you see her or when you are having a conversation with her just remember that you should not mention the 'L' word around her because it offends her and she also disliked the colour red.
Yeah I know you must be thinking how can this young girl be so sad and depressing. She's so young to be talking in such a way. Most of of all you must be telling yourself that this girl needs to get a life. Well in my opinion you don't need to be in love to live your life to the fullest.
Love is another word that describes pain. It's painful and causes unwanted havoc in lives that should have been left alone. I'm saying this now because Katelyn has been in and out of just this one relationship in particular and when she finally came to her senses and told herself that enough is enough, he left her before she could even say the words. He left without a reason, without some sort of closure which destroyed her and from that day forward she promised herself not to let anyone in again. Until everything Changed when she moved to New York and saw this guy at the airport. Something felt right about him at that moment and she never got to see him again. It was like he was a ghost, maybe a wakeup call.
Its been three years now since the day at the airport and every morning Katelynn woke up wishing to see him again maybe say hello or hi to him this time. Every day she walked around in the city hoping to bump into him, hoping she could see the lost expression on his face again. Katelynn hoped and prayed so many days to take all his worries away to help him find himself again because he seemed so worried and lost that it made her feel the need to run up to him and comfort him but she was too afraid to approach him. He would have probably think she was stalking him and no one wants to have a stalker around. Katelynn simply gave up on the thought of being able to see him again.
Every day she got closer into accepting this crowded city and came to find one of her favorite places. Time square late at night just right on midnight is her favorite time and place to be. The deserted buildings the massive tv screen where she could see herself on it. The silence of it all is just as beautiful as a quiet field overflowed with sunflowers underneath the bright stars and mesmerizing moon could possibly be more perfect than the current of the blue ocean underneath the moonlight at night, tides slowing rising and the comfort of her toes curling in the sand that also find its way onto her perfectly skin tanned body.
All the kinds of smells, like the bakery just around the corner, perfumes at the La Perfume store, newly tourists trying to find their way around, famous people show casting their movies or songs and most of all the smell of new books sold at the Greenlight bookstore which is a true Brooklyn gem tucked into the leafy Fort Greene neighborhood, street-facing windows with a wide selection of top selling quality literature books facing people who passes by and the caring staff who dissect releases that can never get more warming than it sounds. This is what Katelynn loved most about living in New York.
Today would marks her third month of attending Brooklyn Technical High school that's known well for their best academic performance which Katelynn certainly do not know how she got accepted at one of the top schools in Brooklyn because her father cannot afford such expenses.
Being home schooled seems to be boring and she is looking for something new to explore, something much more interesting than spending all my hours around her father and brother, around her laptop classmates. Wanting to make actual friends other than my internet ones, wanting to be like every other teenage girl attending school and spending time hanging out with her friends but what she wasn't ready for was all the obstacles shell have to face that comes along joining the outside world in on the fun activities of our daily lives.
The obstacles could either bring her down or make her stronger. knowing how stubborn Katelynn was, she's definitely not going to give up without a fight, without even trying. Giving up on something means you weak and if you can give up on one little thing then you can give up on everything ahead of you.
