MICHAEL POV
"Michael-yowch! Stop that!"
Nicki ripped his arm away from me, pitifully cradling it lovingly to his chest. I shot him a pissed off glare.
"Sorry, is the poor baby hurt?" I mocked angrily.
"Dude, what even is your problem? I've never done anything to you!" He snapped.
"You've annoyed me, made me freeze to death, and have ranted about Shawn Mendes for the whole time!" I snarled back. "Now, I'm extremely aware that Shawn Mendes is a very good singer because he is but-"
"Wait, do you like Shawn Mendes?"
I rolled me eyes, crossing my arms and cocking my head at him.
"Is the sky blue?"
"Well, technically-"
"Never mind that. All I'm saying is that you've annoyed the living daylights out of me and I'm this," I yelled, showing him the tiny space between my two fingers. "Close to shooting you right where you stand and leaving you to rot in peace."
"Yeesh, violent much?" He mumbled under his breath.
"Why can't you just stop!?" I growled.
"Stop what? I'm not even doing anything!"
"UGH I-JUST- UUUUUGGGGGHHH!" I screamed, finally losing what little sanity I had left. "JUST STOP TALKING AND BEING A DORK AND BEING REALLY CUTE BUT JUST STOP BEING A DORK AND BEING IRRITATINGLY HANDSOME AND STOP BEING TALLER THAN ME JUST-"
"Wait, you think I'm handsome?" He said with wide eyes.
"Irritatingly so! Just- you- I- Dork- just shut up!" I said, stomping my foot.
"Awww, you're so cute when you're angry," he teased.
"I hate you," I muttered.
"But... you don't."
"Yes, yes I do," I shot back.
"Awww, I love you too babe."
That brought a sort of really awkward tension between us. I brushed it off, ignoring the feeling of giddiness that tap danced in my stomach and the warmth in my cheeks.
"Let's go Nicki. Follow me."
With that, I led him near a nearby building and watched as some burly, brawny guys looked around.
"So uh do you want to talk about what you just said?"
"We're going to have to move fast," I murmured more to myself than anything.
"Hello, are you even listening to me?"
"Hmm, you have electricity and ice powers correct?"
"Well, yes but Michael-"
"Okay then."
I ignored him as my eyes swept over the guards and building. They caught on a small glimpse of Rachel and Luke dragging some guy over to some sort of back alleyway. I smiled, remembering how we would go and do that to those who tried to steal our rations. Then I schooled my features.
"Okay Nicki, let's go."
I grabbed his hand then closed my eyes. A familiar feeling of cool wind blowing over me and a tugging in my gut signified that my invisibility power was finally activated. Nicki gasped as he looked at his see through hand.
"That's so cool! Can I absorb-"
"Absolutely not," I snapped before dragging him along with me.
We made our way to one of the back entrances where two guards were.
"Hey, what you're going to is get right in the middle of them then freeze them silly. Got the picture?" I said tersely.
"Uh, yeah."
I took him by the shoulders and marched him towards the middle of the two guards. When he hesitated for a moment, I dug my fingers into his shoulders.
"Hurry up!"
"Are you sure-"
"Trust me, you freezing them won't harm them at all. Now do it!" I hissed in his ear.
He shuddered momentarily before grabbing the guys by their arms, ice quickly spreading to their faces before they could make any sort of outcry. Soon, they were frozen solid and I grinned, letting go and exposing ourselves. Of course, I had to grip the wall for support (embarrassingly enough) since using my invisibility powers on two people was hard and energy consuming. At Nicki's delighted look, I frowned and cleared my throat.
"Not bad nerd."
"Not BAD?" He exclaimed, pouting.
"Yeah. What, are you expecting me to give you a million yen or something? Let's go."
I climbed onto the dumpster easily then swung my body up to the window ledges where I proceeded to climb up. When I reached the gutters, I used my legs and swung backwards, doing a somersault sort of thing to get up. Then I looked back down at Nicki.
"Your turn."
His eyes showed so much terror it wasn't even funny.
Wait, actually it actually was hilarious in my opinion, maybe not Nicki's though.
"Wh-What if I fall?"
"Uh, then you get back up again," I said with a roll of my eyes.
"What if I fall and break something?"
"Then you get back up and try again, duh. How do you think I got good at this kind of stuff?"
He paused, lingering before clambering up the dumpster and bouncing lightly, scowling.
"If I fall and get paralyzed, I'm so going to sue you."
I stuck my tongue out at him, giving him a peace sign.
"I'll be gone by then sucker, long gone."
He laughed a bit and jumped up. Unfortunately, unlike me who's had years of this kind of "training", his fingers only grazed the window ledge. He yelped as he fell down, creating a huge crashing noise as his back slammed into the dumpster's lid.
"Ouch, that was NOT fun."
"WHAT WAS THAT?"
My heart started beating a bit faster at hearing the other guards' voices, following by frantic footsteps. I reached a hand out.
"C'mon! They're going to find us!"
He hesitated once again before jumping up with all his might. Thankfully, he managed to latch a hand onto one of the window ledges. Right as a guard came by to check the back, he'd grabbed onto my hand and I turned us invisible once again before he saw us. I held my breath.
"What the... why are these guys frozen?" He muttered, touching his fellow guards, his hand going for his walkie-talkie. "I should report this."
"NO!" I yelled.
At the same time, Nicki flung a hand out. An orb of pure, crackling electricity was fired from his fingers and hit the man. The man grunted as he fell over, twitching and such. I expelled the breath I'd been holding.
"Good. Hey, nice instincts there."
I hauled Nicki up.
"D***, you're heavy."
"No I'm not!"
"Uh, yeah, you are though."
Once I'd managed to yank him up onto the roof, we crawled towards the center where the roof was opened and we could spy on them.
"Caleb!"
Nicki pointed quite subtly (not) to a boy who was maybe slightly older than us in the middle, looking uncomfortable and slightly pained. He was bound hand and foot with purple and yellow glowing cuffs and surrounded by the guards, and also was blindfolded. I felt Nicki's whole mood shift, him sparking beside me.
"Keep your cool. Just because your brother is there, doesn't give you the right to blow your casket and jump in there."
Nicki wasn't even listening to me. He trembled in rage, eyes melting from their normal deep purple to bright, ice cold blue.
"They took my brother away from me. They're not getting away with it either," He breathed, voice shaking with anger.
"Nicki, calm down," I growled.
"I'm going in," He snapped, getting ready to jump in.
"ARE YOU INSANE?" I whisper yelled at him, grabbing him by the collar and shaking him. "Do you want to end up just like your brother? Held captive against your will?"
He didn't answer. His now neon green eyes burned with dancing flames of such passionate animosity that surprised me. After all, this was Nicki we're talking about. The one who'd never hurt a fly. The one who's a dork. The one who's always happy, and now he's looking at me like I'm the enemy here.
That just officially pissed me off even more.
I glared at him, our noses almost touching at how close we were.
"Answer me you incompetent bonehead. Do you want to end up like him, or not?"
He looked me right in the eyes.
"I'd rather be with my brother than not."
With that, he shoved me away and jumped down with a resounding thud. I scrambled up and jumped down after him.
"You ******* IDIOT!"
When I landed, a bunch of the guards were staring at us as if we were aliens. I smiled sweetly at all of them, secretly cursing out Nicki for doing this.
"Hey fellas. We'd love to stay and chat, but you kind of have a captive that you took who majorly pissed this guy off."
There was a moment of silence. Then someone from the back possibly, pointed straight at us.
"GET THEM!"
I punched Nicki's arm with a furious glare for getting us in this mess. On the other hand though...
This might get real fun...
