Nicki POV
Okay okay okay, fine Michael you win. So maybe just jumping into the fray of those guards wasn't my smartest decision I've ever made. Hey, if you saw your brother all tied up like that, wouldn't something inside you snap? I mean, for me it did. Caleb was supposed to be my nii-chan. My older brother. The one who was supposed to take care of me, not the other way around! It just made me furious seeing him like that and I just couldn't handle it.
Though I do admit that jumping down like that from the roof wasn't very smart of me (Stop laughing Michael!).
Michael landed gracefully next to me and punched my arm, glaring at me. He was letting me know that he didn't really appreciate me doing this but I was too focused on my brother. My blood pounded through my ears, sounds now muffled and my brain was completely blank. The only thing in my mind at the moment was one objective.
Get my brother out of here.
"GET THEM!!!"
I let out a howl of rage, stomping my foot and sending a nice sheet of ice towards the first few rows of the "soldiers". It froze them to their spot. Yet I wanted to do more to them than just freeze their feet. I wanted to hurt them. I wanted to make them scream. I wanted to make them pay-
"NICKI!"
Michael slapped me and I snapped out of my dazed anger. He fisted my collar, pulling me close to him just like he did a few moments ago as all hell broke loose around us. Thankfully, my little ice stunt gained us a few minutes of time.
"YOU NUTSO IDIOT! ARE YOU TRYING TO GET YOURSELF KILLED?" He shrieked.
I pulled myself away, glaring at him.
"No. I'm just trying to put my family back together again, but I'm sure you wouldn't know how that feels, huh."
An odd look of hurt and shock flashed over Michael's face. I realized how harsh my statement had came out and I bit my lip.
"Sorry, I-"
"I know how it feels, okay? Trying to put a family back together again."
I raised an eyebrow at him and smirked, looking at the guards starting to surround us.
"Hm, this is your last chance to bail."
He scoffed at me, scowling.
"As if. Rule on the streets dear: When you begin something, you finish the task."
I smiled at him. The guy who kept his emotions guarded and his past in the shadows was actually the one person who had helped me in the first place. He was the first person to even believe that Caleb could've been kidnapped. For some reason, while Michael (or whatever his real name is) seemed to be so shady and harsh, he was the one who's stuck with me for the whole journey. Now we were going to free my brother and go home. We were going to succeed or die trying.
"Fine then."
The guards surrounded us, aiming their weapons at us. We stood back to back kind of like in a dramatic scene in a movie. Michael's hands lit up with balls of fire (SO HE DOES HAVE FIRE POWERS!!!) and I let orbs of electricity grow in the palms of my hands. On edge, we waited for the first bullet to hit us. When there was a cacophony of bullets being fired, I squeezed my eyes shut and went to throw my balls of electricity when I felt a jerking sensation then the feeling of flying. When I opened my eyes, I realized I was actually flying! I looked up to find a grinning Luke carrying me from under my arms.
"Hey, can me and Rachel join the party?"
"Whoa, Luke you can fly!" I gasped. "Have you always been able to do that?"
"Not exactly. I'll explain later."
I then remembered Michael and began to twist around.
"Wait, you forgot Michael! You have to get him!"
"Don't worry man, he's fine. Here, see for yourself."
Luke spun around, showing me the scene. At first, I didn't see what Luke wanted to show me. Then I noticed a familiar figure of Michael flickering in and out of invisibility. 'So he has invisibility and fire powers. Hm, so Luke has two powers, Michael has two powers...' Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Rachel surrounded by another group of men.
"Hey, we have to-"
Yet when they fired off their bullet, she disappeared. Another Rachel was behind them and made water crash over their heads. I just gaped at them.
"Hey, I'm going to let you down now since you're kind of heavy," Luke said with a grunt.
He lowered me down and he unexpectedly dropped me on my butt. I yelped, rubbing my poor back.
"Sorry, you were heavy."
"I know right? He was like fifty trillion pounds," Michael remarked, jumping over to us.
"Michael, behind you-!" I began as a man went to go and hit Michael over the head with his gun.
Michael didn't even look behind him. He just calmly whirled around and stabbed this guy right where it hurts. Then he wiped off his hands and looked at his dagger with a scrunched up nose.
"And to think, I just got it cleaned."
He casually wiped the blood off the blade, using his shirt.
"By the way, I saw a couple of guys taking your brother somewhere in this blue van. You need to go after it if you're going to rescue him."
I was just too stunned to speak. Stunned from what, I actually have no idea. Was it how chill Michael seemed in the heat of a battle? Or was it simply how he still looked gorgeous even with blood and dirt all over him? Hey, whichever one it was, I froze up because of it. He looked up at me.
"Dude, didn't you hear what I said you dork?"
"I-I uh-"
"GO! MAKE LUKE TAKE YOU AND I'LL HANDLE HERE WITH RACHEL!"
He shoved me into Luke before diving back into the chaotic mess that I'd um accidentally created.
"Let's go, Nicki."
He held out his hand and I grasped it, letting a warm feeling rush through my veins while copying his flying powers. Together, we flew over the buildings and followed the blue van. I managed to get close enough to see my brother in there which just fueled my earlier anger.
"Hey Nicki, what are you doing?!"
I looked up from my already growing hot palms at Luke who looked a bit alarmed at what I was just about to attempt.
"What does it look like I'm doing? I'm going to melt this van duh!" I yelled back, my anger spiking.
"Don't be ridiculous dude! You'll hurt Caleb if you do that!" He argued.
"It's worth the risk!"
"NICKI DON'T!"
I thrusted my hands onto the back doors, grinning almost maniacally as I melted it slowly. It was extremely satisfying, watching it just slowly drip off like lava does on a volcano. Call me insane, call me weird. I honestly don't care anymore.
"NICKI WATCH OUT!"
I looked up to see someone aiming this gun at me. Before I had a chance to react at all, it glowed pink and flashed before my eyes. I felt this terrible pain in my head and arm...
And everything went dark.
