I stopped with my hand on the doorknob, and felt the shiver go down my back. Cara's head spun around and her eyes flashed gold. No. Not yet. Softly the words slipping from my lips.
"No..." Cara stepped back towards Harper's room.
"He's trying to take her." I launched myself over the back of the couch coming through her bedroom door in two running steps. She thrashed in her bed, blankets already tied around her. I reached down stripping them away from her body, which was already covered in a cold sweat. I wrapped my arms around her and her mom moved closer to me. Adler took over, releasing a soft grumbling growl.
"I need to be able to see her, she is my daughter Adler, she is still mine before she is yours." He relented and I put my lips to her ear.
