Chapter 7 - Holding Onto A Thread

It's been a week since their return, Wei Wuxian is making a slow recovery, but for the most part, he is recovering with the help of Wen Qing, but she only stayed for three days before she and her brother were heading home to their family. Jiang Cheng went back to his normal routine to help train the disciples and lead charges in night hunts in Wei Wuxian's place, taking the younger ones to shoot kites. At night he would spend time with Wei Wuxian and Jiang Yanli in Wei Wuxian's rooms. It's been hard to face one another as Jiang Cheng holds such guilt for what occurred in Cloud Recesses. Even after the Lan Clan apologized publicly and admitted to their faults, it's been shaky grounds between the Lans and the Jiangs and it might never recover from it.

Jiang Cheng was reading the letter that Nie Huaisang sent the day before out loud to Wei Wuxian, explaining for the sense that Sect. Leader Nie is childhood friends with Sect. Heir Lan Xichen, he was forced back to Cloud Recesses to finish his studies, because Nie Mingjue trusts Lan Xichen with his life and trusts his brother's life in their "capable hands," though it was no lie after the news of Wei Wuxian near-death experience at the hands of the Lans, shock the entire cultivation world to its core, and Nie Huaisang mentions it also caused his brother to hesitate even for a man who doesn't even bend against his will.

Wei Wuxian is known for how strong he is for how young he is, and for all the accomplishments he made with new inventions. Wei Wuxian was well known at such a young age, and known to be a complete gentleman, well behaved, and followed the rules to everything to the top. So to be punished for something that is out of his "character" is unheard of and almost falling into death by it. It would shake anyone from such a tragedy.

Wei Wuxian, "I also wanted to talk to you about this too, Jiang Cheng, I think you should go back as well and finish your studies."

Jiang Cheng, "ARE YOU CRAZY?" he yells at his brother and would have hit him in the back of his head if he wasn't already hurt. "There is NO WAY I am going to EVER go back to THAT place AGAIN!!!"

Wei Wuxian, "I know it's a hard feat, but you need those studies. Besides by going back, it could retie the ties between Yunmeng and Gusu clans, all because you decided to be the bigger person and look past all of this and head for the future."

Jiang Cheng, "How can I look past all of this? How can I look past that day Wei Wuxian? They don't deserve forgiveness! They don't deserve a relationship with Yunmeng Jiang Clan!"

Wei Wuxian sighs, "It isn't about what someone deserves Jiang Cheng, it's about doing what is right for your Clan. There will be a time that you will need the Gusu Lan Clan, and that day might be sooner than you might think or it could be years away when you are already in your grave. Do you want to deprive your future clan of that help for what happened in our generation, because it wouldn't be worth it in the end and it won't be worth your time to continue to hold this grudge for someone who has already forgiven them?"

Jiang Cheng was speechless, "Y... You forgiven them?

Wei Wuxian, "Yes and it isn't your place to grow in rage or disappointment in me, for it as it wasn't you had gone through it. You can be mad for your own reasons but you can't continue to hold this grudge for me anymore because I chose to move on."

Jiang Cheng wanted to be angry and demand why he decided to forgive those who wronged him in one of the worst ways, but as his brother spoke it made sense, he can't continue to hold this grudge, but he even recognized his brother's words, because Wei Wuxian said to forgive them but it doesn't mean you have to forget, and just with one look at his brother, he realizes he might have forgiven Gusu Lan Clan but he will never forget what they did to him. Jiang Cheng, "Even if I want to go back, I doubt they would ever take me back after the scene we pulled."

Wei Wuxian smiles, "You will be surprised how willing those who are trying to rebuild their reputation, and it shows that they are willing to take the next step to those who wrong to gain that will do it in a heartbeat."

After some convincing and discussing plans with the Jiang Sect. Leader, Wei Wuxian got everyone onboard onto sending Jiang Cheng back to Cloud Recesses. Though it was agreed that it would be for the best if Jiang Yanli and Wei Wuxian stayed behind in Yunmeng Jiang. With another week passed and after receiving a letter that was eagerly accepting Jiang Clan back to Cloud Recesses, Wei Wuxian and Jiang Yanli said goodbye to their younger brother wishing him safe travels to Cloud Recesses, though Wei Wuxian knew it wouldn't be long until he would be reunited with Jiang Cheng again, as he HAS to be there for the Waterborne abyss but he has three months to heal and get back onto his feet to be able to meet them at Caiyi town. SO like always Wei Wuxian didn't waste any time and started to meditate in his secluded meadow in the back of Lotus Pier that he created when he was young.

He let both the Sect. Leader and his Shijie not to come looking for him as he is going into seclusion in the Meadow for three months. He allowed his sister to visit once a month to rest her worries but for the most part, he was to focus on himself to regain his strength and calm his racing Golden Core that still was overused ever since that day.

Dressed in thin red robes and his hair down without his ribbon, Wei Wuxian was being helped led to his seclusion with the help of Jiang Yanli who wanted to make sure he makes it all the way there and was hesitant to leave his side once he bid her goodbye, but she had to believe that he knew what he was doing and had to leave him to his meditation, so she made her way back to Lotus Pier, nodding to the guards who were blocking the path to the Meadow, preventing any fellow disciples to enter and disturb Wei Wuxian in his seclusion.

Wei Wuxian looks out to the Meadow to see even more flowers and grass blooming in his wake since he's been gone. Birds chirp and crickets chirp letting him know the upcoming twilight that is rolling over Yunmeng Jiang. Making his way to the middle of the Meadow, Wei Wuxian kneels in the grass and flowers and closes his eyes before peeling off the thin robe to expose his torn back to the fresh air and chilled air. Taking large breaths in through the nose and out the mouth, Wei Wuxian let his exclusive core energy free, to dance throughout the meadow, to relax his core once more. If anyone were to sneak up to spy on this moment it would be the most amazing and beautiful sight they would have ever behold before. Large gust of red Spiritual energy flies from within him and dances around him in a dance as if its master was playing them a song to dance with.

The birds and butterflies that made homes in the meadow came out of hiding and danced among the energy, taking comfort in the clean warm feeling the energy gives off. New flowers bloom in the wake of the spiritual energy that ever touches the ground, eager to meet the world and growing to be a red vivid as Wei Wuxian energy. It was something else, some otherworldly for such a scene to stumble on, welcoming every living thing in the day, but when night befalls over the land Wei Wuxian's energy turns from red to black and gold welcoming everything dead, but not in the sense as something evil. It's like if Music cultivation were to play Inquiry, summoning any spirits to talk to them, but it came so naturally to Wei Wuxian that all from hundred miles of radius were coming to seek out Wei Wuxian in a huge celebration, thanking the Master of death to see the living world once again and dancing together in a large variety of colors as their souls were not the same as the other. Good, evil, angry, calm, wondering, passed on, all large varieties of souls came to join the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, as he welcomed them to dance in the Meadow underneath the moon and stars until the sun rises, sending all of the spirits back to their graves, but before they left they all gave him a blessing for the night.

On and on this went on, The living were to keep him company and help him in control of his Core, and at Night the spirits kept him company and helped him control both mind and body. Even when Jiang Yanli came to visit Wei Wuxian and she witness this for her own eyes, she was amazed at her brother's gifts even though she knew what the black energy was but she could never judge nor hate him for such a thing because he was her brother and she will always be by his side and welcome his gifts.

The three months were up and once Wei Wuxian broke his meditation, Wei Wuxian knew something about himself was different. He felt different and stronger. Like he could raise an entire mountain. He just knew, he knew what he had done and accomplished for the first time in all of his lives. Wei Wuxian was Immortal. He crossed that threshold of his Cultivation. He was shocked, to say the least. He has always been strong to where his life would age slowly like any normal cultivator, but never this far. Not to where he would never die, then it hit him. Wei Wuxian could never die again! He never had to face that darkness again at anyone's hands, he would live in his fifteen-year-old body forever.

Once Jiang Yanli met with her brother the day of the end of his seclusion she knew it too. He even looked different. His hair was much longer to where it would drag under him, his eyes had another worldly look to them. He was the most beautiful person to walk on this earth, as was any Immortal. Tears fall from her eyes as she walks over to cup his cheek. He even looks broken again when he and she realized together that there will be a time that he would have to say goodbye to everyone he has ever loved because even if his sibling's lives will slow down and they age much slower than a normal person, he will still outlive them all.

Wei Wuxian falls to his knees and lets out a sob as he clings to his sister's robes, Jiang Yanli wraps her arms around her brother trying to offer as much comfort as possible but even for this joyous occasion, there is still darkness that clouds over Wei Wuxian.

There was no hiding it from those who raised him. Jiang Fengmain and Madam Yu knew him from inside and out. Once they saw him next they knew what he became to be, and it was a happy occasion, but also a sad one all at once. For a cultivator to reach Immortality was the main goal and the biggest honor, but for some, it happened by accident, and they never wanted it which will drive them insane and implode their own core which would kill them in the end. Wei Wuxian never wanted to become Immortal, but he didn't want to die for the sake of getting rid of his core. He has to live on, if not for himself then for his family that they asked of many times.

Wei Wuxian will accept his Immortality until all of his loved ones pass on to their next life, and maybe if he meets more to live for, he will live for them, but eventually, he will wish to cease to exist where he will self destruct his core. For now, however, he asks his Sect. Leader to keep this information for a later date, because once it comes out Wei Wuxian's life will never be the same. Imagining people calling him, "The Great Immortal One" doesn't sound real to his ears or mind.

In his last two lives, if he were to ever become Immortal, he would have become a laughing stock for others to poke fun off, because he was a big joker and caused trouble even if he never meant to, but in this life, he was someone different. He was different from Wei Ying that was innocent in the first life, and he is different from the Wei Wuxian who was scared to mess up in the Second because now, he is cold and indifferent from others, but the best in most eyes.

Jiang Fengmain, "It is understandable to try and hide this, but how long do you wish to? In a few Years when others grow more you will remain the same. Not to even mention your features are also sharper. Those who already know you will know something is different."

Madam Yu, "He knows that Jiang Fengmain!" she hisses at him before turning back to Wei Wuxian, "If there is a way to help him hide this for a little bit longer then we should at least try! You know what the Cultivation world will do to him when they found out how young he accomplished Immortality at the age of fifteen! People won't leave him out of ANYTHING for MULTIPLE reasons!"

Jiang Fengmain sighs, "People will wish to learn from him to see if they can learn the secrets of Immortality, others would try to use him for power. There will also be those who will despise him behind a smile, for how young Wei Ying is."

Wei Wuxian, "I know it is... much to ask and to take it all in, but I will be eternally grateful for the Sects. help and hope we can keep this among the Sect. for as long as possible. If we can accomplish this then I promise no matter what is going to become between me and Yunmeng Jiang, I will always come back once I am called. Lotus Pier is my home and it will always be as long as you will have me, and I will always protect Yunmeng Jiang."

Both Madam Yu and Jiang Fengmain seemed pleased with this statement. They never doubted that Wei Wuxian would always protect the Jiang Clan, but him saying it out loud made it even more real. They never have to worry about the future of Yunmeng Jiang or even Jiang Cheng with an Immortal behind him.

Jiang Fengmain, "Perhaps we should you and A-Cheng perform the Sworn brother ceremony." he thought out loud.

Madam Yu, "Don't take this the wrong way, Wei Ying. We do see you as part of the family, A-Cheng, and A-Li both see you as their brother, but you didn't come from me, and you and I made it obvious that you aren't my child and I will never take as my own to honor your parent's name. If something would happen to me and Jiang Fengmain, the Sects might use this to pin you against the Cultivation world or even A-Cheng. I am not going to deny that when it comes to A-Cheng when his ego is being challenged he would succumb to the most popular option. Knowing that by, it would even mean leaving you behind, but if you would have the ceremony to become Sworn brothers with A-Cheng with both Sect. Leaders behind it and even there, no one will EVER challenge that no matter what is to happen, the Yunmeng Jiang will always have you as their own through thick and thin."

Wei Wuxian, "So to know the Yunmeng Jiang is protected by an Immortal if anyone were to try something to the Lotus Pier in the future."

Madam Yu and Jiang Fengmain look at one another before saying, "Yes this is also true, but please don't misunderstand A-Xian!" Jiang Fengmain states, "The idea is great on paper, but when it comes to you children, you all are what matters the most in the end."

Wei Wuxian nods, and bows to respect them before excusing himself to retire to his room for the night. He started to pack a bag of clothes. He planned to head for Gusu Lan tomorrow morning and reach there just in time before the Lan Disciples arrived. Knowing his brother, Jiang Cheng will also be with them so he hopes to be able to check on Jiang Cheng before Wei Wuxian... well he let's just say he has a lot on his plate before the Archery competition in Qishan Wen.
