Chapter 4 - Chapter 4:Missing

(Allison P.O.V.)

I took a shower and got dressed. I was waiting for Penelope to get out. She was seriously taking forever. In my curiosity, I decided to check on her. I cracked open the door. The shower was off and she was gone. What?!? Did she just leave me? There's no way. She doesn't go anywhere without me.

"Penelope!!!" I called out for her, being panicked. I sprinted outside the bathroom and straight down the hall to the main entrance area was. There was no sign of her.

"Is everything okay?" Caroline asked, concern written all over her face.

"I can't find Penelope." I explained.

"Oh no. Did she not come out of the shower?"

"I didn't see her come out but when I checked on her she was gone." Caroline stood up.

"I'll help you find her." We began searching the house, finding no signs of her.

(Cole P.O.V)

After I had walked upstairs I decided to go to my favorite tree. It was a large tree I had picked out in the forest where I would go to think or get my feelings out. It was private and peaceful. No one bothered me there. Kind of like a safe place. I climbed out my window onto a tree branch then climbed down the tree and headed into the forest. After walking for a while I was getting close to my destination. When all of a sudden I could hear crying. It was coming from my tree. Hey! That was my tree to cry at! I peeked around it to see who was there. It was Penelope. She was curled up in a ball against the large tree trunk with her face buried into her knees.

"Penelope?" I spoke softly.

"Go away!" She lifted her face exposing her red swollen cheeks and eyes.

"What's wrong?" I tried to stay as calm as possible because usually at this point I would have gotten mad at her for raising her voice at me.

"It's nothing. Leave me alone." She rebarried her face.

"Hey, it's okay to talk about it." I came closer to her.

"You wouldn't understand."

"It doesn't matter if I would understand or not. It matters that you told someone. You can't just keep it bottled up forever. One day you won't be able to take it anymore. I don't want that to happen."

"Why do you even care?"

"I care because I want to."

She turned to me with an annoyed face but it was stained with tears.

"That's the worst reasoning I've ever heard in my life."

"I know. But I'm still trying ok. I'm not good with moody stuff." I sat next to her and rubbed her shoulder, trying to comfort her.

"I just don't understand. Even when I'm nice everyone still hates me. They chew me up and spit me in the trash. And all because my stupid fur and eyes. I'm honestly just a freak." She nudged my hand away and scooted further away from me. I remembered Caroline saying we would be cute because we're opposites but Penelope is just as stubborn as me.

"Freak is not the way to describe it." Wow, ok that sounded way better before it came out of my mouth. She looked at me like 'Is that supposed to make me feel better?'

"What I meant is uh.... I don't know." I hung my head ashamed. I was probably making this worse. "Sorry, I'll just leave." I stood up.

"Actually, will you stay? I'm not usually alone. I regret coming out here without anybody."

"Sure." I sat back down beside her.

"Tell me about yourself." She started conversation.

"Hm? Well ok, let's see. I like to read." I felt something heavy hit my shoulder. I looked over and saw that Penelope had fallen asleep and leaned onto my shoulder. Aww cute. I moved her head onto my lap and took off my jacket, laying it on her body. I fiddled with her hair as she slept peacefully.

(Caroline's P.O.V.)

We had searched the whole building with no sign of Penelope. Allison quickly rushed outside as I followed.

"Penelope! Penny, where are you?" She yelled at the top of her lungs once she was outside. Her face was covered with concern and worry. She must really care about her. I spotted Dylan coming towards us with his girlfriend, Shania. She had hazel green eyes and dark brown hair.

"Is something wrong with Penelope?" He asked.

"We can't find her." I informed him.

"I saw her walking towards the forest like a half an hour ago."

"Really? Thank you so much. Come on, Allison. Let's check the forest." We both ran into the forest yelling Penelope's name over and over again.

(Penelope's P.O.V.)

I heard yelling coming closer and closer to me. The last thing I remember was talking to Cole. He was really bad at comforting me but I appreciate his efforts. I noticed my head was on something soft. I don't remember the ground being this soft. The more I laid there thinking about it I realized there was something touching my hair. It moved gracefully and gently making me feel relaxed. Suddenly it stopped and something started to shake my body.

"Penelope, wake up. Allison and Caroline are looking for you."
