Chapter 16 - Chapter 15

Still in a bit of a haze from what seemed to be a dream, Maria's eyes searched around the room for Logan, who sadly had never been there in the first place. Her hands tightly gripping onto the sheet as if she was holding onto the image of him in some desperate attempt to not forget his face. He hadn't aged at all, of course how could he when he passed at the ripe age of twenty something.

A simple knock at the door sent a shiver down her spine. Of course she was expecting it to be him, until the door opened and a young man in a white lab coat greeted her from the door, cautiously coming in.

"Miss Croft, you're finally awake." The young doctor spoke with a soft tone as his eyes set on his patient, studying her physical state. "My name is Doctor Anthony Baker and I will be keeping an eye over you today." He looked to be no more than twenty-five, with dark brown hair and a pair of welcoming brown eyes.

His kind eyes and friendly demeanor caused Maria's tense shoulders to loosen up and her jaw to unclench. He seemed to have a soothing energy to him that sent the exhausted woman into a state of acceptance.

The young man walked closer and took the clipboard from the edge of the bed, skimming through it with a curious look before looking up at his patient once again. "From the chart I can tell that you have severe panic attacks that tend to cause full blackouts, and from looking at you I can tell that this isn't your first time here." Anthony spoke with a bit of concern on his face.

Maria pressed her lips together sending him an apologetic look, yet raising her shoulders a bit to signify that her situation to her seemed out of her hands. The doctor seemed displeased with her reaction and yet, decided to explain the severity of her situation.

After what seemed like a full hour the young man exited the room, leaving Maria with no more questions for him, but many for herself. He had told her that after she gets her rest she would be free to go, prescribing her with some anti-anxiety medication and giving her his card for any further questions.

"Finally some rest..."Maria whispered to herself, closing her eyes for a brief moment, letting the image of Logan fade to the back of her mind, where she had been storing almost every memory of him, comfortably resting under the memory of who she used to be before her son was born.

It didn't take long before there was another knock at the door and this time the door almost flung off its hinges upon it being opened.
