After his third glass Edward was already having a bit of a hard time, his vision blurring and the corners of his lips progressively curving into that familiar drunken smile.
"Look at him already drifting."Nathan pointed out with a chuckle.
"Just like your father, lightweight."Maria chimed in, lighting a cigarette.
"Ready to head in for the night?"Nathan teased.
"I can…drink more…"Edward hiccupped, reaching for the bottle.
Both Maria and Nathan stared at the boy as he slowly reached for the bottle, pouring himself another glass.
"He has your steady hands Mary. If he was anything like Logan the rest of the rum would be on his cloths already."The bearded man spoke, holding his glass up to the boy for another round of cheers.
"Dad couldn't drink…"Eddie asked in a hazed tone, his words trailing off a bit.
"Oh heavens no…"Maria laughed."He was usually the one that brought up the bottle, however I was usually the one to finish it."
��Man…your mother over here could out drink half of my men."Nathan chimed in with a grin as he reached for one of Maria's cigarettes.
Maria let out a loud laugh as she handed Nathan a lighter.
"You always used to steal my cigarettes, even back then."She mentioned matter-of-factly.
Nathan graced her comment with a light smile before turning his attention towards the boy sitting next to him."Boy, you should have seen your mom in action back then. Turning bottles, rolling blunts, indulging in almost every bad habit known to man.
"Nate, no…don't tell him that stuff."Maria laughed trying to cover for herself.
"Oh yeah. Did you know that your mom is bi?"The man continued. It was now quite clear that the alcohol had gotten to him.
"NATHAN!"Maria almost yelled out his name, swiftly pressing a hand against his lips to silence him.
Nathan laughed loudly before she was able to place her hand on his lips, to which he responded by moving further away causing her to lean out of the chair and onto the couch next to him.
"Wait…mom you like women?"Edward exclaimed excitedly as he looked at her. His words still lightly slurred but now masked by excitement.
"Yes…don't you…?"Maria spoke with a lightly raised eyebrow as if that was just a by the way comment.
"Well…"Edward started, but didn't seem able to finish the sentence.
Maria glanced at him and a smile spread across her drunken face as a realization hit her.
"Don't be torturing the boy now, let him have his secrets."Nathan said patting Maria on the head."He's a grown man who doesn't need to be questioned."He continued sending Edward a light smile and a nod, which seemed to be enough to relax the tense boy.
Maria and Nathan exchanged a look before she finally relaxed and leaned against the man, pressing her head against his shoulder.
This was a level of comfort that Edward hadn't seen his mother express in the presence of anyone else, however decided to keep his comments to himself. It looked like his mother needed this so he didn't much care for why or how if it was affecting her positively.
