Rose confronts Jade in the kitchen about Chris. Chris and Rose finally make up.
THIRTY-THREE
"Because I might care for you more than I thought I would" I admitted and his eyes shined with joy.
"I care for you too. That's why I suggested you leave your work so we could easily be together and stop hiding like this" Strong, rough hands covered my hands and I looked down at our intertwined fingers.
"I don't want to quit this job. I like working here and it's only till I save enough money for college" I said slow and steadily.
"It's OK. I might have been too commanding" he scratched his head with an apologetic face and I cracked a smile.
"You sure were" I teased and he sighed.
"It's OK though. You were kind of hot" I joked.
"Someone's finally seeing the obvious. Ha, who would have thought?" he scoffed and I rolled my eyes at him.
"Don't let me take that back" I warned.
"I am hot all the time, honey. Admit it"
"Shut up" I punched his chest and at the exact same time, we laughed out loud.
"Come here" he opened his arms and I wrapped my arms around his lean torso while he rested his head on mine.
"Have I told you how mesmerising you look in blue?" He whispered into my hair and kissed the top of my head lovingly.
"Did I mention how handsome you look in a suit?" I whispered back.
"Handsome? Not only handsome but also hot, dashing and-" he gritted his teeth as the pain that emitted from my fingers spread through his thigh.
"You didn't have to pinch so hard" he breathed out in pain.
"You didn't have to open your mouth to spew rubbish but you still did" I retailed and smirked when the only response he could give me was a glare that had little to no effect on me.
"Chris" I shaked my head because of his immaturity and rested my head back on his chest.
A loud, rock song began playing from nowhere and we both jolted up in shock. He quickly took out the phone from his pocket with a sheepish smile.
"What's up?" He said to the person on the other side as his British accent flowed fluently through his tongue.
He looked at me as he listened to the other person and I gave him a small smile.
"Alright, bro. I will be down soon" he said and put the phone back in his pocket after cutting the call.
"It's Will. Said they are about to cut the cake and family needs to be there" he answered my silent question.
"Let's get going" I nod and we both stood up but he held my arm when I was about leaving the attic.
I turned back to look him in eyes and he drew me closer with a small smile plastered on his lips. When we were close enough, he planted a small, wet and passionate kiss on my forehead and I had to curl my toes because of the buzzing sensation it brought out in me.
"You go first. I'll be right there" he mumbled and I left after giving him a wide smile.
As soon as I stepped out of the attic, a sudden wave of cold rushed down my body and I rubbed my arms that were attacked by goosebumps.
I can't remember the last time I smiled so much in day. Not that I was a grumpy witch but smiling always needed a greater encouragement to achieve but now just merely thinking of him, a grin slips into my lips unconsciously.
I thought as I walked down the stairs and back to the hall. As soon as my legs landed on the ground and off the stairs, my earrings screeched at the same time, indicating it is on.
"What's up, guys?" I went to a corner of the hall, far from anyone's sight after taking a drink from a waiter and leaned my weight on a table.
"Where have you been, Rose? I was looking for you" said Iris into my blue earring at the right ear.
"Something came up suddenly" I took a sip from the drink in my hand and the gas flowed through my body leaving a satisfying feeling inside me.
"Something like what? An urgent booty call or something?" Lily snorted and I pursed my lips, thinking of the appropriate answer she needs.
"Go to hell, Lil"
"So what's up?" I asked.
"Just wanted to remind you to be in position because it is almost time" Iris being Iris, said I am pretty sure Lily and I rolled our eyes at the same time.
"Yes, mother" Lily and I muttered at the same time and we chuckled.
"High butt, girl" Lily said and I slapped my butt cheek.
"Alright guys, that's enough laughing at your elder sister. They are about to cut the cake" Iris said before she turned off her earrings.
Few seconds later, the clink of a glass being hit by a fork echoed through the hall and everyone gathered in front of the stage.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen" Brad started and raised his glass of champagne as a greeting.
He was wearing a simple black and grey suit and his brown strands were swept back by huge amount of gel to showcase his youthful glow.
His wife, who wasn't far away from him, matched her satin, full length dress with her husband's as the black gown was decorated with grey designs and her curled brown locks were elegantly swept over her right shoulder.
The couple stood, arm in arm, smiling at the guests and eyes crinkling with happiness.
Stupid, fake and conniving bastards!!!
I cursed in my head as the urge to clench my fist surpassed my control.
"As you all know, today is a very special day. Not only is it the day we established The Bladderwort's Industry but also the very day we began our new, bright life. This wouldn't have been possible without so any of you present at this hall. You encouraged us, trusted us and believed in us so we thank you for everything you've done. The people we need to express gratitude towards are so numerous that if we were to start now, the list would go on forever" a few of them chuckled and I rolled my eyes at the stupidity of some people.
"Today is the twenty fifth anniversary of the Industry. Twenty five years of blessings, twenty five years of happiness and twenty five years of success. And I, Brad Bladderwort, CEO of the Bladderwort's Industry, with the honor of representing the entire company. I cut this cake to celebrate our success" After he was finally done with his sickly boring, perfectly scripted speech, he took the knife about to cut the three tier, designed with blue and white fondant vanilla cake when a loud clap came from nowhere.
Everyone's heads turn towards the direction the unwelcomed clap came from with the same confused expression.
At the entrance of the mansion, stood a man, wearing an all back tuxedo, with his black hair perfectly styled to the side the way he likes it to be and a very tricky smirk on his lips.
Lorenzo Roderic Lentino Cantos.
