An unexpected guest arrives to cause commotion at the party.
THIRTY-FIVE
His long, confident steps echoed down the completely silent hall as he walked with his devious honey eyes set on one particular person.
Brad Bladdwerwort.
The intensely engraved animosity between the Cantos and Bladderwort was something every business that is in top-level should have heard once or twice, so seeing an enemy in the party held by the Blaadderwort made the entire guests still in anticipation, waiting for what was about to happen next.
"Seems like I popped in the wrong moment" Lorenzo stopped in front of the stage that Brad and his wife stood on while casually putting his hand inside his pocket.
"How you all doing?" Lorenzo waved.
"Mr. Lentino Cantos, this is a party where you need an invitation to attend. So if I may ask, where is your invitation?" Brad said in a clipped tone, trying to compose himself.
The last thing he expected was for his arch-enemy, Lorenzo Lentino Cantos to step into his party.
Oh, the shock his poor, old heart embraced made me burst out a silent chuckle while covering my face with my hand.
"Old friends don't need silly papers to attend their friend's party, don't you think, Mrs. Bladderwort?" He gave her a chaste smirk and she turned her head away from him.
"I felt like it's been too long since I've seen my dearest friend, ao I decided to stop by and say hi. Hope you don't mind, Mr. Bladderwort?" Lorenzo walked to a waiter, holding a tray of glasses, took one from it, and walked back to his position.
"No, of course, I don't. Now, you may leave. Thank you for the visit" Brad gritted out of his teeth and I had to clutch a nearby table before I fall from my unkempt, silent laughter.
"Oh my, kicking me out already? Don't you want me to have a taste of this beautiful cake?" Lorenzo put his hand on his chest.
"If it's the cake you want, we will gladly package some for you. Helda" Avalor called.
"Get some cake for the young gentleman-"
"There will be no need for that, Mrs. Bladderwort. I really do appreciate it" Lorenzo smiled but it was so obvious that it didn't reach his eyes.
All the guests have stopped looking at the stage and are busy talking and bustling like nothing is happening but their eyes may be with them but their ears are far off, listening to the silent commotion happening on the main stage.
They are probably trying to grasp anything that could make the headlines tomorrow morning so it would be the new gossip of the town.
The only thing these rich, stuffed-off people cared about was to witness their rivals fall beneath their feet and accepted defeat.
They cared about nothing else.
Amongst all this drama, Bianca took the distraction as an opportunity to stealthily sneak out of the hall and gave me a nod before she stepped out.
Iris and I looked at each other at the same time and gave a slight nod.
I turned on my earpiece as an indication of the plan being in motion but Lorenzo quietly and slowly made a sign with his fingers and I got hold of it.
"Pause" I whispered into the earpiece as per Lorenzo's wishes.
"I should say, you chose the perfect color to represent your dedication towards your company. White to represent the innocence or perhaps the corruption and blue to represent the strength or possibly the self-centered beast behind that fake mask. Who knows? There are always two sides to a story, huh?"
"Lorenzo!!" Brad raised his voice and Avalor was quick to interrupt before her husband loses his temper in front of so many important people.
"Mr. Lentino Cantos, I believe that is enough mocking for today. You may leave now" Avalor pointed towards the door.
"Oh no, how can I come to a party and leave before the cake was cut. My Abuela said that is bad manners. Come on, cut the cake, I would like to take a shot of this perfect moment" Lorenzo urged and even took out his phone to take a picture.
Avalor let out a frustrating sigh and whispered something into her husband's ear which made him straighten up despite his annoyed face and walked towards the cake.
"Evening, my dear guests. I apologize for the short interruption" Brad said after calming himself down and it appeared he would rather be anywhere but here.
"It's cool with me" Lorenzo raised his glass and winked at them.
I was just enjoying this from where I sat. The way Mr. and Mrs. Bladderwort were flustered by Lorenzo's presence left a satisfying ache in my body.
"We'll continue from where we stopped. Now, with the gratitude engraved on our hearts, we cut this-"
Lorenzo gave me the sign and I quickly whispered "Proceed" into the earpiece.
In less than a second, the entire building went into a complete blackout and the room fell into a hush. Soon after, murmurs began to fill up the room and everyone looked around in confusion.
Before you knew it, a small flame captured with smoke rose from somewhere and we heard the crashing of glasses, somebody screamed "Fire!!!" and the room went into a total uproar.
The party has just started.
