Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Elaine POV

I woke up the next morning, with Liebchen staring at me. I got out of bed, changed into suitable clothes for the day, a long black dress going a few inches above my ankles, see through black bishop sleeve dress, see through black collar button down and black fabric ruffles V shaped going down between my breasts. I paused in front of my looking glass, staring at myself. Mid back hair length, silver gray strands fall against the front of my shoulders, my oval face structure, my slit high nose bridge and my plump lips that I admired so; eyes light as chestnuts almond shape that can stare into ones soul, well my mother would say, not I. The person I see in front of me, an independent Wiccan, I reach for my wiccan hat big and black, tip pointing to the back down, some dark black blue feathers on one side of the band with some light pink cosmos and purple anemones, I place my hat on and leave the chamber with Liebchen by my side. My mother was already cooking breakfast and I sat down to help; I set my mind to move things as my hand fingers moved them without directly casting the spell words, light purple small sparks twinkle out of my finger tips; some pans that my mom needed over to her and got some ingredients out of the fridge.

"Thanks, Hun, you're getting better in the kitchen," she said while chopping some onions.

"No worries mom." My mother continued to cook breakfast and we were soon eating together.

"So, what are your plans for today," she poured some tea in a teacup and handed it to me.

"Well, I'm thinking of going to practice my flying skills and going to see my friend Larissa for a while;" she took a sip of her teacup.

"Oh, that's fine, have fun and don't come home too late, I let it slide yesterday because you were flying for the first time." She scolded me.

"Alright mom I won't." After I finished eating, I went upstairs to get some things.

"Do you want to come," I asked Liebchen. She was silent for a few seconds before she answered.

"Okay," I took the broom next to the door, went outside and put the broom between my legs and Liebchen hopped on, she stayed in the middle of my legs and had a good grip on the broom stick. It took less than five minutes to get to my friend's place. We landed on the ground safely and I went up to her door to knock. My friend Larissa answered the door. My friend took the path in sea and crystal practice, her mom did the same thing. She looked a lot like her mom, mid length dark brown hair, a round face, small upturned stubby nose, full lips, and round shaped eyes. She had a thin long dark blue dress with long bell sleeves and v neck and a flowery pattern going along the V line.

"Hi Elaine, I thought you would never get here, what brings you for this visit." She remarked knowingly.

"Come on, can't I just visit a friend," Larissa looked at me like she knew that wasn't true. "Okay fine, I wanted to ask if I could borrow some books." Larissa turned to the shelves in back of her and got three books she knew I'd pick.

As she handed me the books I asked, "hey where is Lotus?"

"She's right behind you." I turned around and saw the saw-scaled viper, this was Larissa's familiar. She had wrapped herself on the back rest of the chair and stared at me with those scary yellow piercing eyes.

"You know I will never know how she became your familiar." I took a hold of the books Larissa handed me.

She sighed. "Elaine, you know the story, I was outside my yard when I was ten, she came to me and slithered around my hand and stayed with me ever since." The thing was that Larissa wasn't scared when the snake came towards her, she just offered herself to it. With my familiar it was a different story, I was twelve, I had gotten out of school and started walking home when I felt someone following me. I turned around and there she was, still a kitten; I didn't see anyone around, I was about to leave when she was right in front of me, she was fast for a kitten, she hissed at me. She didn't want me to leave. I tried walking in a different direction, and she did the same as before blocking me from going anywhere. I picked her up and she instantly started to purr. When I got home with her in my arms she jumped out of my hold and went straight to my room, she made herself at home, on my bed and became my familiar. I left my thoughts and turned back to Larissa.

"Hey how is Nicholas by the way? I haven't seen him for a few years, every time I come, he's never around." I asked curiously. Nicholas is Larissa's younger brother.

"He's with his friends, they are practicing their magic, he will be back tonight." Larissa stated. I remember her little brother. He probably changed a lot since the last time I saw him.

Larissa POV

I was with Elaine for a few hours only before she had to go home. I had been friends with her at a very young age and she hasn't changed, I'm glad. Some of my other friends don't talk to me anymore; they were never my true friends, only Elaine. I can foretell in my pot she will always be by my side.

The front door opened, I knew it was my brother; "hey Nicholas can you come in here for a second, I need to ask you something." I can hear his footsteps getting closer.

"What is it, sis?" He comes through the hall into the living room.

"Why do you always disappear whenever Elaine comes," I stared at his reaction.

He looked a little nervous, but it quickly went away. "Just because... I don't need to tell you."

I decided to trigger him, "do you like her or what?"

He started to look all red with anger, "I don't like her, and I don't want to see her, that's all." He left stomping upstairs, I knew something was up with him; he never showed any anger towards Elaine till a few years back. He might be a year younger than me, but he does get on my nerves sometimes. He's going to college this year. Surprisingly, he's a smart boy; he skipped two grades; he's certainly no little kid anymore. I know he's planning to attend the same school as Elaine, he doesn't want me to know but I have sent my Lotus to keep an eye on him, so he doesn't know.

Elaine POV

I got home just in time before my mom got angry, she was making dinner, I went into the kitchen to see her stirring the soup in the pot, tasting it and more flavor in it.

"I'm here, mom," she turned around getting her attention.

"That's good, how was your visit dear;" she added some more spices to the pot with her wand levitating it and sprinkling it in.

"It was fine mom, I borrowed some books from her again, and we talked for a while." I let her glance at the books I brought back home.

''How's her brother, did you see him this time?" Once she said that, my expression went from happy to disappointed.

"Sadly no, it's been so long that I haven't seen him, I already forgot what he looks like." I was about to walk away, when...

"Don't worry Hun, you'll see him one day." She turned her head back to me and had a weird look on her face, like the type something is up in a naughty way she put up an eyebrow. "Are you having a feeling of some sorts for her brother already, Elaine?" I am shocked she would think such things.

"Come on mom, please, when you think about it, it's gross liking a friend's younger brother, I really don't know him and I'm for sure don't have any feelings like that for him."

My mom put her hand up with the spoon in surrender, "okay, it was just a thought, but your face said otherwise Elaine." Instead of leaving I placed the books on a counter near the table and I set up the table to eat. I finished my bowl quickly, took my books and went to my chamber, I wanted to start applying to college.

I turned to look at Liebchen when I entered the room, "did you talk to Lotus this time?" I went to sit down at my desk while Liebchen spoke.

"I did and I asked about Nicholas too." As I put my books down, I stopped and continued the conversation.

"Oh, really what did Lotus say?" I asked as I sat down.

Humanely she responded, "no, no no, I'm not telling you, that is a secret." Great I'll never know now, I distracted myself by reading the books Larissa lent me; these books will help me for my future classes. Once I read a few chapters I started getting tired and decided to sleep. Tomorrow I'm planning on doing a spell on myself and I hope it works the first try.
