As expected their father came back with couple more people and quickly closed the door. "What happened with my wife?"

Anna Gale saw him picking her up and shoveling into the bed, like some kind of obstacle and not his wife.

"She got frightened by the noise you and your.... friends... made." Anna was not dumb and saw the three people staring at them with furrowed eyebrows.

Henry Gale saw their expressions and just wave his hand to calm them down and they instantly understood. "Don't worry. But my wife is a must.''

Anna Gale was not stupid not to realize what they were talking about. She sat next to her sisters and hugged them. "What about us?"

Henry Gale thought they would make trouble so he tried to smile. "We are going to bring all the zombies away and find safer shelter. Here is not safe enough."

Suddenly he saw a backpack with cans and almost jumped with happiness. "Food. Let's eat and hurry. The horde will pass my house in one hour. By that time we will be stuck here."

Anna's eyes narrowed. One hour.

Her mother woke up and saw her husband, two more men and a woman sitting there and eating. "Husband?"

"Eat. You need strength to run. Zombies follow a deer we caught and put small bells on. But they will be back. Hurry." He pushed one can towards her and she happily started eating.

For the last two days, they didn't eat anything, so she was literally starving.

"And go take a bath. They can smell sweat and blood." The woman sniffle at herself and went to the nearby bathroom and dragged stunned Jocelyn.

Jocelyn Gale was stunned as she saw the woman calmly undressing and closed her eyes.

"We have no time. Hurry!" The woman yelled and started undressing her.

Jocelyn Gale rushed to do as she was told and started rubbing herself with a neutral soap that the woman gave her. No shampoo or conditioner.

Just a simple soap.

Anna Gale calmly went to a nearby box with clothes and took out two sets of clothes and opened the door. "Fresh clothes."

The woman pressed her lips as she really wanted to take at least this child, but knew that she might not be as fast as them, so she gave up that thought as fast as it came.

Anna Gale sat back with her siblings and took two cans of food from the backpack. "Let us have some food until you come back."

Of course, they were unwilling, but they had no face to make trouble as they saw the three girls calmly opening the cans and eating the food.

The backpack was now empty and her father just threw all the cans into the sink and saw his wife coming out of the bath. "Put the cap on and let's go."

She looked at him in astonishment. "What about children?"

She might not be a perfect mother, but she was their mother.

"They are safer here. We are going to the military shelter and can come back with soldiers to get them. If we take them, they might not be able to follow our pace. I rather we survive and come back than take them and they die." His voice was righteous, but his daughters knew what his words meant.

If you don't run fast enough, you die.

Anna Gale snorted in her mind and calmly looked at the excited woman that was her mother. She did love them, but even she was ready to leave them. "Don't come back. Just tell the military to find us. It's not like any of you would fight zombies. Let those with weapons do that."

Henry Gale sighed in relief. "We shall do that. Try to survive until then."

"We shall." Anna Gale calmly stood up and opened the door. "Now hurry up. The horde might come back anytime soon. I don't want horde standing in front of my door. Please."

Jocelyn Gale just slightly kissed the three girls and rushed behind her husband, not even turning around to see them.

Anna Gale snorted and saw them running away down the street and rushed down. "I'm using this chance to get more food and supplies. And electricity. I think our last battery is almost done."

They used the light of the solar battery to be in the shelter, but they didn't load it the last two days as a large horde was in the neighborhood hiding from the rain.

The two girls saw the light waning and realized they will be in darkness soon.

"Sister ..."

She rushed up, opened the door between garage and house and found the long extension cable and rushed towards the window next door.

With a swift move, she put it next to the window and rushed straight back. This time the sound of zombies was nowhere near, so it seems those people really did what they said.

They really took care that zombie horde goes in the opposite direction.

The cord was literally thrown through the small window and she whispered. " Roll it towards the main door. I'll take care of rest. I'm getting more food. "

The two girls came out and slowly unrolled the big extension cable and brought it straight into the room.

Then they peeked through the door and saw her bringing bags with food and just throwing them down.

Luckily the two girls were not stupid and dragged the bags into the shelter.

Bag after bag plopped down and finally, Anna Gale came back. "Now let's use the last moment to find a way to bring electricity into the shelter."

She looked at every corner of the heavy door and finally saw a small enough gap under the door in the far corner for the cord to be without being completely squeezed.

She sighed. "I'll make the hole bit bigger and we can just stuff gap from our side with old clothes or such."

The girls nodded and saw her coming back with their father's ax and started hitting the ground with it.

Do you think she had time now to look for other tools? No.

Luckily a corner of the concrete broke off and now the cord could be inside the shelter without any troubles.

She slowly closed the door and saw that it fitted well. With last strength, she rushed up, brought two lamps and a few lightbulbs and closed the gate just as she heard the sound of growling passing their street.

Luckily she locked the door and the neighborhood window as much she could.

She was smart enough to lower the part of the electrical cord down so even if it rains and water follows it, it will drop down and not go directly to the electric device.

In past, her father said many times that all three were smarter than other children and often taught them more things.

Almost like he knew...
