Their sleepy eyes made Anna Gale stop in her plans. She was as well exhausted.
With a heavy body, she grabbed the beddings from the houses and put them up. Then she came down and grabbed the rest of the beddings and finally went down to wash her hair and body and with last strength grabbed a few pillows and went into the nest thing she made upstairs.
Most of the covers were under them and only one thick cover over them. As they were little they slept together.
As soon she closed her tired eyes she was deep asleep.
The girls were tired as well and didn't see the screen opening and showing that the gate was ready to be used.
Even if they saw it, they were too tired to go anywhere. So by the first sunlight, the screen faded and went see-trough.
Unfortunately, just then another group of zombies entered their street and the message completely disappeared.
The next morning Anna Gale woke up and got stunned.
Hm? It was not a dream?
Darkened ceiling beams were filled with spider webs and showed that their whole adventure really happened.
That and the muscle pain that finally hot in.
With a hiss, she stood up and saw through the gaps in the window the two girls blissfully sleeping. She sighed.
The window.
She will need glass windows for wintertime.
So many windows are now open for use in the other world and she should use them as soon as possible.
Looking by the cold wind night before they had or spring or fall.
With slow movements, she went out of the bed without waking up the two cuties that slept hugged and slowly went down.
Outside the wind was howling, but there was no sound of rain.
She slowly went out and realized that heavy clouds still covered the sky and chose to bring as much firewood she could as rain might start falling any moment again.
Just like her little sister said, the firewood was neatly piled up on the back of the house and because the wind blew sideways, only one part of it was wet while the rest were still dry.
Luckily she brought her rain boots with her and used them to bring in the firewood, stacking them into the small wall next to the door.
Finally, the rain started dripping again and she gave up the idea of taking more. So she cleaned the bit mud on her shoes and let them get dry near the fireplace.
She saw that there was still some inkling in the ashes and used the dry branches she found to restore fire. The ashes were thrown outside as it was anyway raining and she closed the door.
Inside was not full darkness as there was a pale light passing through the gaps in the windows.
This will be a problem in the wintertime as all the heat will escape through them. So she definitely needs to repair the windows and bring glass.
With a sigh, she started rearranging the mess that was in that room and tried to be as silent as possible.
The clothes will be brought upstairs, the shoes they don't use as well. Food is placed in the corner and she already made a decision to make simple noodles and add the sauce from one of the cans.
Easy and filling.
Not healthy, but they can't be choosey now.
Suddenly she had an idea.
"Map."
The map appeared in front of her and she used her fingers like she used her phone to make things bigger and smaller.
She narrowed the village and saw exactly twenty-eight houses there, all bordering with each other and thirty-six houses like hers spread in the surrounding.
As they got knowledge of farming she knew some basic things and started narrowing the fields and gardens near the houses.
Then she almost cursed.
The big orange pumpkin that glared at her through the screen meant only one thing.
It's definitely Fall.
Looking at the plants she realized something.
None had tomatoes, peppers, chilies and other things.
She thought of her neighbors garden and knew she definitely must find a few vegetables she could or replant let seeds for next season.
Maybe he has seeds in his gardening shed?
She rubbed her temples.
If winter is coming she needs to take care of more food as who knows when the gate will reopen again.
The water boiled and she added noodles and saw the two sleepy girls found down in their pajamas. "You two need to sleep more. Eat something and go back to bed. I need space to clean this mess and you two can pack nicely all the clothes if you are bored."
She glanced at Alice. "Call me when noodles are done. I'm just going to bring up all the clothes and shoes we don't need rights way up."
Alice nodded and glanced intently at the pot. She definitely will finish the task her sister gave her.
It was an important task.
The clothes were rolled into a few pillow covers so she just dragged them up and threw up all the shoes and made the girls laugh.
"Luckily we don't have glass windows or they would be broken now." Alice chuckled and glanced at the pot. "Sister, noodles are done."
The basic skill of cooking showed her that even by looking she knew if it's cooked or not.
She couldn't make them yet, but cooking them is not a big problem.
Anna Gale threw the last pair of shoes up and took two kitchen cloths and slowly opened the door to pour water out.
She knew that was indeed a stupid idea, but she had no other options.
The water was carefully drained and she just put straight away one can of some mixed can food in it.
Potatoes with pieces of meat and some vegetables. Added to the noodles it became a rich meal that made them full in no time.
The rest of the meal they left in the pot and she just covered it with the lid and put it on the ground.
Not many places to place it anyway.
The two girls were urged to go up, but both had a strange expression.
She suddenly remembered. "You need to go to the toilet?"
Oh great. The toilet was outside and it was raining.
But there was no other way.
She put the raincoats on them, put shoes and her rain boots on and first rushed to the toilet with Alice that already started hopping around like a little rabbit.
The old toilet was a smelly place with a triangle in mid of ground and she closed the door. "I know is nasty, but I rather still be here than in the other world."
Alice nodded and started unpacking her clothes but remembered something. "Sister, did we bring toilet paper?"
With a sigh, Anna Gale opened the door. "You finish your business while I rush to bring your sister, and toilet paper as well."
The little girl rushed to take off her clothes while Anna really rushed back home.
Toilet paper, luckily she took some...
