Chapter 1 - BEST FRIENDS FOR NEVER

It was a beautiful morning, golden rays of sunlight shone through my bedroom window. Today was the day of my ten year high school reunion. The thought alone brought a smile to my face. Beside me on the bed, my husband Noah stirred awake. Funnily enough, both of us will be attending the reunion since we met in high school.

"Good morning, are you ready for today?" I asked.

"What's today?"

"The ten year reunion"

"Oh! That - I guess," he responded," are you ready? Considering you might see her."

For a minute I was confused. Then, it clicked. He was referring to my ex-best friend who was like a sister to me. We used to be best friends before it changed her. She stopped being the fun-loving person she was and instead became cold and withdrawn.

Deciding I wasted enough time, I got up and began readying myself since it was now eight and the reunion started at nine. I donned a simple black cocktail dress that fell to just above my knees with my long brown hair straightened and cascading down my torso. Noah came out of the bathroom a few minutes later fully dressed.

Not long after we left the house. We arrived just in time for the reunion to start. Old friends reunited, excitement filled the atmosphere. Noah was catching up with some of his old team mates which left me at the table with two women. My eyes wandered around the hall until they fell upon a familiar face. An inaudible gasp escaped me. It was her, Shelby Jackson.

I stood up. I was not going to let her run this time. "Those years of friendship should still mean something, right?" , I thought to myself.

Making up my mind I decided to talk to her and maybe hopefully, reconcile. I made my way to her at the buffet table. My brown eyes connected with her green eyes. Recognition flashed in her eyes. She stopped taking out food and dropped her plate, disbelief splayed across her pale face. I took that opportunity to observe her. She looked much better now. Her eyes were a lot brighter and she was not alarmingly thin anymore.

I opened my mouth to speak, palms sweating and heart pounding, "I really hope this works" I muttered to myself.

However, I did not get the chance to utter a word as she held her hand high as she passed me by. She walked briskly away. Then, I knew I would never see her again after. Tear brimmed, my eyes as my heart broke at the prospect of never being friends again.

THE END
