A few days later I'm back at the mission headquarters. This time there are two people with me, Will and Miranda. Tyson stands in front of us.
When Tyson came back a few days ago, he told us that training was over for the day and that no one is to contact Marcus for a while. Tyson said that Marcus will be severely punished for attacking a comrade. That was all.
Now, I'm getting ready for another mission. Things are getting out of hand these days. More rebel groups are forming and they are starting to work together. Makes me wonder why they are suddenly being so aggressive. Do they think they can beat the numbers? Is there a mastermind behind all this? Someone who is making the rebel groups work together?
Tyson clears his throat.
"The mission I will give you today will be a crucial one. Multiple rebel groups have taken over Thedas, the capital city of Amphibia. You guys are to take the city back while keeping the casualties minimal. Am I understood?"
"Yes sir!," we reply.
**********
Thedas is built like a fortress. Huge walls surround the whole city. The only way to get inside is to walk in through the front door. But, the entrance is blocked by a couple hundred rebel group soldiers. They are chanting something.
"In the name of skull repeat after me. Glory to skull! Glory to skull! Glory to skull! Glory to skull!," they chant away.
Who the hell is skull?
"I'll lure away the ones by the entrance so you guys can get inside and take out the ones inside," says Miranda.
I nod but give her a look that says be careful. She gives me a similar look back.
Miranda jumps so high, she looks like a bird in the sky. She makes a fist and connects it to the ground as she lands close to the door. She sends a shockwave rippling through the earth and takes out nearly 50 nearby soldiers. She makes a run for it next and the rest of the soldiers follow her like sheep.
Will and I sneak into the city. As soon as we get in, we regret sending Miranda away like that. There are probably a couple thousand soldiers in here. But we've done training for this type of situation. We can use the houses as cover and assassinate all of them before they know what hit them.
Will and I move swiftly and take down soldier after soldier. After every assault, we find cover, the soldiers are dumbfounded. Like this, we move into the center of the city.
There may be more of them than us but they might as well be a couple thousand sheep before two hungry lions. We take down so many, their numbers dwindle. There are not many of them of them left.
Will and I make it to the center of the city and all the surviving soldiers run away from the center. Why are they running away?
That's when I see it. A bomb with a few seconds left until detonation. As quickly as I can, I grab Will and make a run for it.
BOOOOOOM!
So much for keeping casualties to a minimum. The explosion sends Will and I flying into a house. The explosion takes out much of the center of the city. So many people must be injured or worse. Now they've done it, they've pissed me off. These rebel bastards just attacked innocent civilians!
I look to my left and see Will on my left arm. He landed on my left arm, completely crushing it. It'll be useless for a couple hours now.
"Sorry," says Will getting up.
We get out of the house and see that the remaining soldiers have us completely surrounded. There are about 200 of them. 2 v 200, great.
"I'll be the main attacker, you just have my back," Will tells me.
He's looking out for me and my broken arm, I thought. But this really does not look good. The explosion took all cover away. It's just us and them now.
The soldiers give a wild cry and rush at Will. Will moves swiftly and deadly, cutting down everyone in front of him so they can't get to me. Whenever Will can't get to someone, I cut them down. We continue this way, Will is clearly getting tired. He's receiving more and more wounds. I try and cut down those that he misses but there's simply too many. Some land many blows on Will before Will or I finish them off. Our movements become beyond sluggish, especially Will's, he's doing the main work. I'm scared, Will won't be able to hold out for much longer.
"Will, let's switch positions!," I cry out.
"Just shut up and cover me!," Will cries out.
We mow through countless soldiers, Will gets so weak but continues to battle. The enemy's numbers finally reach single digits at which point I slay them all in rapid succession. They don't deserve to live after killing so many people.
Finally, all the oppressors are down. We've done it! We've taken back Thedas!
I look back towards Will, "We've done it bro."
He gives me a smile filled with both happiness and sadness. Will closes his eyes, his legs give out and he drops to the ground like a lifeless corpse.
