Chapter 11 - Chapter Five // Part Two

"Can I help you father," I ask, leaning my head back with exhaustion.

"Yes. I thought I raised you better. Knowing your surroundings and never falling asleep are two of the biggest rules that I taught you when you were younger," he said with a pointed look and his hands on his hips.

I could see why he was angry to be honest with myself. I hadn't checked into this towns history, nor looked around the train station for exits and possible monsters. Then, like a moron, I fell asleep. I began to become angry at myself as well. "I understand why you're mad and I know I should've known better, but father I'm exhausted." I look at him.

He looked me over once, and then over at Damon and he could tell that I was telling the truth. We've been walking almost nonstop since Pan ruined our car. "I'll help you, because you two have fought quite a fight with everything that has happened to you on this journey. Also because I don't have anywhere to be for the next couple hours. I'll stay here and protect the two of you, and then wake you up when your train arrives. After you get on the train, I won't be able to do anything except put a temporary protection on you two while you travel across the country. It will last a day at the most. Now, sleep," with his last word, I pass out immediately without realizing it.

I dreamt of home and what it used to be. I dreamt of my father playing swords with me while my mother worked in the garden. She would tell me that it wasn't lady-like to play like a boy. I told her several times that this was no longer a man's world and girls could do anything boys could do. Even from a young age, I wanted to be the greatest warrior of all time. My father would tell her to listen to me. That I was smart for thinking this way.

I dreamt of dinnertime at home, we would sit as a family and my parents would tell me stories of the past. Of the other warriors that they gave birth too and how they lived heroic lives. It was during these stories that I decided that I was going to be the greatest of all the heroes. These stories are what strive me to be who I want to be. They would tell me how much the world has changed and what they miss from the old world. My mother always said she missed the quiet, which didn't surprise me, as she was a nature spirit. My father changed his answer every time. You could tell that he always missed the same thing though, he missed the simple way of living. Ares was a simple man and I respected him for that, because as his daughter, I got the want for the same kind of simple living. Just as much as I got the want for peace and quiet, just as my mother misses from the old world.

It felt as though I had slept two minutes when my father pulled from my dreams. His eyes were rimmed red and I could tell that he had seen everything I had dreamt about. After he woke Damon up, he looked at the two of us and he said, "With the protection that I just did, I could see both of your dreams."

He looked at Damon, "Stay the fuck away from my daughter you upside elf."

I wanted to laugh, but I was honestly more curious about what Damon was dreaming about. His blush didn't help my curiosity either. "Amethyst, you're already the greatest hero that your mother and I both will talk about for the rest of the ages to follow. You've made the both of us proud."

I almost teared up, but I remained stone faced, "Thank you father, that means a lot."

He nodded his head at me, "Now, the magic that I'm about to give you is very powerful and I'm not sure how stable it is quite yet, I just created it. It's a protection spell, basically when you're ready for another long rest, you activate it and you'll be safe for 24 hours. However, once you activate it, you only have that limited amount of time, so I don't recommend using it until you both absolutely need it and are on the verge of crashing."

He hands me a blanket. "I'm putting you in charge of this item, Amethyst. I trust that it won't fall into the wrong hands when it's in your possession."

Our train pulls up and as I'm getting my bag reorganized to fit the blanket in it, I hear my father talking to Damon, "Stay away from her kid. She doesn't want you in the way that you're hoping that she does. She's a great girl, I know. But, and I hate saying this about my own daughter, she's a destructive being. She keeps moving because she doesn't like being close to people. That's a trait that she unfortunately gets from both her mother and I."

I shrug my shoulders when I hear this because he's not wrong. I continue to struggle with the blanket until I decide that it's just not going to fit. I zip up my bag and swing the blanket around my neck. "Come on Damon, we don't want the train to leave without us," I say, walking onto the train, "Bye Ares, see you next time."

We hand our tickets to the man asking for them before we make our way down the aisle to find our seats. We didn't get anything fancy, just a simple booth and table, but we were alone. The only other people on this train were a couple of teenagers. They didn't look like they were headed far with the little luggage they had on them. I hoped this would be a simple trip with minimal attacks. I looked at my surroundings and made myself aware of what our exits were in case we needed to make a quick one and I noted how many passengers there were and where they were at. Then I looked at Damon and smirked, "What kind of dream were you having that my father had to tell you to stay clear of me, not once, but twice?"

He blushed and looked down, "None of your business in my opinion, and I didn't have to be told to stay away from you. You're mean to me."

I laugh, "Yeah I'm sure, since you won't tell me, I'll just have to assume it was a wet dream and that it wasn't the first one."

His face went from blushing to shocked faster than I could say 'Ha'. "You wouldn't dare," he says.

"Oh but I would. You should know me better by now," I say, my smirk growing.

He thinks about it for a moment. Deciding if it'll be worth it to tell me about his dream. "I'll tell you about my dream."

"Good, I was hoping we would come to an agreement," I smugly say.

"First, though, the cheese puffs are getting to me and I really got to go to the bathroom." He says, sliding out of the booth and taking off down the hall.
