If that man knew who Damon was, then the chance that he knew who I was, was high. I didn't want to think about the numbers. I want to know what I said in my sleep that made Damon's companion want to kill me so bad. I knew what it must've been about, but I was trying to avoid that thought in my head. I thought about how my father told me that Damon was my killer. He wanted me to befriend him and travel with him. I resented my father for that. "That's quite a scowl on your face," I jump at the sound of a voice next to me.
I look to my left and see a beautiful woman, wearing what my fourth grade teacher probably would've worn. She had a certain golden glow to her and within seconds I knew who she was. I bowed my head, "Lady Athena, sorry for not acknowledging you sooner, I was deep in thought."
She laughed at me and shook her head, "Get up child. Talk with me about this situation of yours. I want to see it from the warriors point of view."
I told her everything, from the moment I was told I was the destruction of the world to what I had heard moments ago. Once I was finished, she said nothing, she only stared at the train tracks appearing from beneath our feet. I hear her sigh, "That's a large burden for a child, and I'm sorry that it was put on you at such a young age. I know you're quite resentful with your father, despite his efforts to try and get on your good side. I understand that resentment, which is why I'm here to offer you a solution to your situation. If you're interested of course."
I almost jump at her to give her a hug, I have to remind myself that I don't even know the solution yet, and that I can't just jump at a goddess. After I get past, my initial excitement, I look up at her face and it's dark. That's when I realize, it's not going to be an easy solution.
"What is it?" I ask, solemnly.
"Most people don't bother fighting their fate, they feel as though it's inevitable. Most mortals don't realize that even though Atropos is the decider of death, she often picks a way of death from her sisters to add to the mixing bowl. Leaving each person with three fates rather than one. The most known fate to them is Atropos' fate, but if a person decides they don't like their fate, then they have two other options."
It didn't seem that difficult so far but I couldn't figure out why Athena looked like death came knocking at my door. The only conclusion I could come to was that she wasn't finished. "Would you happen to know my two other fates?" I ask, slowly.
She nodded her head, "Are you sure that you want to hear them?"
I hesitate before nodding my head, " Yes, ma'am, I would."
"Before I tell you what they are, I need you to promise me that you aren't going to do anything reckless, because your feelings will most likely be all over the place. I will tell you right now, every single one of your fates, is intertwined with Damon's. The gods have been watching you for years, we were scared of you at first, but after watching you fight for our cause all these years, I don't know a single god that doesn't trust you. If we felt that you would betray our trust with your choice of fate, I would not be here right now. I'm going to ask you again because I want you to be 100% sure that you want to hear this," her eyes are no longer sad, they're filled with the fighting spirit that I often see in myself when I look into the mirror.
I think for a moment, I find it hard to believe that the gods trusted me so much when I was fated as their destroyer. She wasn't wrong though, I've spent almost my whole life fighting for the gods, rather than against. I just couldn't believe that Damon was intertwined with all three of the fates. You'd think I'd get a little break in there somewhere. "I swear to you, Lady Athena, that I won't do anything reckless no matter my feelings towards my fates. Or who they may be intertwined with."
Her eyes went dark, "Good luck child, your first fate is that you were raised being told. The one assigned to you by Atropos. The fate of the world destroyer and god killer." She gave me a look that said, don't fuck this up and choose that path of that one.
I nodded my head and gestured for her to go on. "Your second fate was given to you by Lachesis. It follows in direct order with Damon's second fate as well. He kills you and becomes the savior of the world. Your third fate is personally my favorite because of the irony. Clotho decided your third fate. She's a hopeless romantic if you would believe. Your third fate is death from old age, but there is only one way to get to this fate. Before I tell you what that is, I would like to remind you of your promise to me and to the gods."
She looked at me with raised eyebrows. "I promise Lady Athena."
"To achieve the third fate, you would have to marry Damon, and the two of you would have to make the decision together to basically destroy your main fates."
