Chapter 8 - |eight|

|ChaeRyeong's POV|

I hesitantly unlock the door. I haven't been home much at all. I stay at Morgyn's place most of the time. For all I know, there could be dishes stacked to the ceiling. I push the door open and immediately stumble back. I bump into Leigha as she looks at me in confusion.

It's far too clean. Someone was here—could possible still be here. I take a cautious step forward and take a shaky breath. Only one other person has a key, Morgyn. I don't want to see him—not now—not when I'm with Leigha. She's pretty. So pretty that she makes me question my own pathetic existence. If he sees her, he'll do something stupid, something that will make her uncomfortable.

"Wait here for just one second, something doesn't seem right." I warn her as I slowly make my way into the house.

Leigha nods weakly and stands in the doorway. She stares down at her feet as a sad yawn overwhelms her. The poor thing must be exhausted and here I am making things complicated because I think my trashy boyfriend is hiding in my house. She probably thinks I'm insane—I know I would.

"Goddammit. I thought you were never coming home." Morgyn hisses as he hops up off the bed.

"Leave. Right now. I don't want you here." I grab his arm and drag him toward the door.

"I'm not going anywhere until you tell me what the hell happened earlier. Why did you get pissed and run off?" Morgyn tugs his arm away from me and grabs my shoulders.

"I don't have time for this. If you insist we have to talk about it go wait outside. I have a friend staying over and she probably doesn't want to have to deal with an argument. So, just go outside." I give him a hard shove toward the door before gently grabbing Leigha's arm and tugging her inside.

"I've never seen her before. She's not a friend of yours. Are you switching teams or something? Am I not good enough for you anymore?" Morgyn snaps at me.

He looks Leigha up and down and I shove him outside. I lock the door and take her hand in mine. I don't actually plan on going outside to deal with him. I figure he'll get cold and mad then leave.

"He makes you uncomfortable, doesn't he?" Leigha asks softly as I guide her toward the couch. She takes my coat off and hands it to me.

"Of course, he does. He makes a lot of girls uncomfortable. He's always been so caught up in books and studying that he failed to learn manners. There's times when he's super sweet, but they started to die down awhile ago." I sigh as I fall down beside her.

"Do you want to break up with him? I can help you." Leigha stares down at her lap as she plays with her sleeve.

"Well, yeah, but I don't really know how to get it across to him. He never listens. He's always thinking about his next big book that'll never make it or reliving some historical event in his head. He's never actually present." I glance toward the window to see Morgyn pacing the rooftop. His hands are shoved in his pockets as he clearly seems distracted by something in his head.

"Tell him he's right—that you 'switched teams' or however he said it. He's right, he's never seen me before, so in his eyes, I could be a one night stand for you. I could be someone to take him off your mind." Leigha mumbles as she pulls her knees up to her chest.

"That would just make him even more upset. I don't know if it's worth it. I'll probably just suck it up and stay with him." I shrug as I sigh and get to my feet. I should just deal with him and get it over with.

"Don't do it—don't let the fear of other's opinions stop you from being happy. I did it and now look where I am. You don't deserve this. You're so much better than he is. Let him be mad at me for breaking you two up. It's not like I'll see him again." Leigha grabs ahold of my arm and tugs me back.

"It won't work. He won't believe it." I meet her soft gaze as I place my hand on top of hers.

"We'll have to make him believe us then. Do you trust me?" Leigha questions as she guides me toward the door.

"Yeah, I don't know why though. We honestly just met a few hours ago, but, strangely, I trust you with my life." I nod as she stops beside the door.

"Tell him that you're leaving him for me. Then turn to me and take my face in your hands. I'll do the rest." Leigha instructs quietly as she tugs the door open and pulls me outside.

"What the hell took you so long?" Morgyn whips around to see Leigha and I holding hands.

"We're done, Morgyn. I don't need you anymore. I found someone better." I state firmly as my heart races in my chest. I swallow hard and turn to take Leigha's face in my hands.

Leigha reaches up to tangle her fingers in my hair. She pulls my face toward hers and presses her lips to mine. Her lips are warm and soft, welcoming in a way. I fight the urge to push her away—she's doing this for me. I don't even know if she even likes girls, so I can't judge her. She could be strictly doing this to help me, who knows?

"What the hell? Get your hands off of her!" Morgyn rushes toward us and gives Leigha a push. She falls onto the ground and snickers as she reaches up to wipe blood from the corner of her mouth.

"Are you stupid? Don't you dare lay a finger on her ever again!" I snap as I push him away from her. I glance over my shoulder at her as she sucks on her bottom lip. My tooth caught her lip when he pushed her, I feel horrible.

"You're messed up." Morgyn hisses before heading toward the stairs.

The moment he's out of sight, I kneel down beside Leigha. I take her face in my hands and examine her lip. She pulls away from me and gets to her feet.

"I'm fine. I've had worse. This is weak compared to what I'm used to." Leigha mumbles as she reaches for the door knob and steps inside.

"You're not fine, look at your palms." I grab her wrists and force her palms up. Blood oozes from dozens of small scratches.

"I told you, this is nothing." Leigha mumbles softly as she tugs herself free once again. She heads toward the sink and washes the blood away.

"Please let me at least look at them. I feel bad. It's my fault it happened." I plead as I hand her a towel.

"Fine." She sighs as she gives into my request. She sits on the couch and holds her hands out for me. I kneel down in front of her.

"Can I clean them better? I want to wrap them, too. Is that okay?" I glance up at her as I delicately turn her hands over to check for any other cuts.

"I guess, but then can I go to bed?" Leigha mumbles as I get to my feet.

"Yeah, I'll join you. I'm exhausted." I force a smile and head toward the bathroom to get my first aid supplies.
