Chapter 26 - Theaetetus of the Heroic Epitome

Paper as weapons, when conceived by the humble ideas of being survive and thrive on this logical and ethical grounds that forced one to make illogical decisions excusing the freedom yet lack of power, hence knowledge is power... or so the old aphorism told. Many overthinking type have always been aware of this obstacle that had impeded the knowledge in the world... lack medium of interpretation. Ergo the invention of one space filled by many towering ledges for conceived-ideas paper to reside.

One august space of familiarity, awareness, and the understanding of anything appraised as truth. By most accounts, such a space was built and being chosen as the archetypal distinction between knowledge and true belief in the Theaetetus, concerning the nature of knowledge as whole truth and truthful belief - a subset of self-awareness... devoting oneself to the study field of reality.

A reality of being too peaceful to live in for today's heroes. Even when a catastrophe that would likely cost couples of hopes and souls... merely a ripple in a steady water surface which became less and less acute as it travelled to the edge of peaceful region. The Western Region of Ospheus City - District of Knowledge is its prestigious designation... such that a place in tribute.

Library of Theaetetus,

Silent dialogues of discovering what one does not know, through a subtle sound of flipping pages of book resonating with the quietude... one essential trademark the athenaeum must possessed, for many tend to grasp faster in an environment that was devoured of distractions and noise, hence this library was built upon the caring granted land.

Library of Theaetetus... an institutional part of society which houses a collection of human ideas and thoughts, caring and sharing one another as a whole essence of dharma - long-lasting legacy. Located in the Knowledge District, western part of Ospheus City which represented by the majestic White Tower of the West, becoming its own charm - fetching the scholars and tourism alike, alongside with the offering oasis of serenity amidst the bustling city.

This large structure, shaped of a long enclosure uninterrupted by columns forming an inflated domes... rich of coppers, an environmentally friendly material, as its high ceiling - red-brown color of beauty, giving a sense of resilience and welfare for anyone under its shelter and shells of polished clay blocks that served the temperature balancer due to its outstanding thermal insulating properties and the ability to store heat for long periods. This type of stone was more than capable of creating a pleasant ambience and room climate, always provided its honorable guests with comfortably fresh and warm environment... tyrannizing this public property with such intolerable comfort, hence the reason was beyond questionable concerning the high number of population who gladly spent most of their time inside this space full of many towering bookshelves along the hall of library.

Having such a dignified time those honorable guests were, through time that ticking wordlessly with every pages and papers they flipped. Mostly were the students of the Ospheus University, easily noticeable from the identical academic dress they wore as part of code dress rule one must follow for it was also bringing special pride to the wearer, and because the renown of which it embraced. A black robe, scarlet gown with facings and wing style sleeves lined with various colorful silks as its ornament... marking their difference from the laypeople of the town in which they studied.

Yet amongst the laypeople who were too, made a presence as a minority, there was one unusual view which unfitted for such a scene to appear on the screen of library activity.

Sitting alone at the far corner of this large hallway - near a large window - at a single desk for a single person. The shade of her short hair was uncommon, the amount of the books that piled up was out of the ordinary for such a little space available on that tiny desk, and the way she sat was off-putting, as her small head was seemingly placed too low for someone who was in the process of reading a book, making her short stature seemingly sinking between the towering books, hiding herself but her long white cardigan that was seen running down the chair legs and about to touch the gleaming wood-colored porcelain flooring.

Because that green-haired young lady wasn't in the process of reading a book indeed, for her eyelids were closed and a subtle noise of air coming out and in through her tiny nose, inflating and deflating her chest in a slightest movement... indicating moments of deep sleep. The neighborhood which favored quietude and peace more than anything, it helped her by guiding her towards the literal daydream. Even though the beneficiary was availing of such a nurturing neighborhood in contrary to the initial purpose, nobody forbade anybody to initiate a reverie of dream journey. Hence became her favorite spot this library was, especially this corner which rarely passed by anyone. By piling up the books on both side of the desk then drowning her head in between... giving an illusion to anyone who saw that she was purely in the process of reading a book, yet in reality... she was doing something easier than just glimpsing pages of a book.

However today, everything wouldn't advance as usual,

Because the distant neighborhood which usually noisier compared to this one... the current occurrence however, would prove the most noisy and most loudest ever recorded so far, as the the huge thunderclap all of a sudden erupted from the sky that seemingly without clouds to be seen. Forming itself a blue lightning that blinding the eyes for a very brief moment, yet the sound it was created last longer as the sound wave travelled through air... vibrating the ground and shaking the buildings... creating a ripple effect on a steady water surface... and this ripple reached its distant neighborhood, arising a little fuss in there that mostly came from the students of Ospheus University as the biggest contributor, for they knew right away that that lightning wasn't caused by any natural mean but a deliberate attempt of an offensive magic - one high-ranking magic.

A space that was once distinguished as a place of silent contentment, in an instant turned into a place of fervent commotion... because the distraction was quite tempting. Yet it didn't seem to take an effect on that green-haired girl, for her eyes were still closed and her breathing rate was still on a stable measure despite the floor beneath her was shaking along side with the window beside her... not even after the calm of the library slowly sinking into the noisy mass panic, questioning many out of wonder.

A group in particular, four students in total who was sitting at the long table for the exact number of their presence - being placed close to that sleeping green haired girl - taking off their little nattering break from the solemn activity of reading books while studying subjects as the interference occurred. Moreover being located near the window, hence the clear image they were capable of witnessing.

"What was that?" one of the female student of the group, initiated the conversation that would eventually chain with each another.

"Wasn't that their doing again?" despite the current condition, one male of the group who was sitting across her, replied in casual intonation for he already knew regarding the condition in the distant neighborhood, "Haven't you heard about the invasion of the infamous Hard-to-Kill Lizard in the eastern district?"

"You mean the Crawling Dragon?" the female student seemed startled by her colleague statement, about this fast-spreading news, "Now that the lightning explains everything."

"That was a high-level electrical discharge. Enough to temporarily incapacitated the reptile, yet not enough to kill it." joining the flowing conversation was the other female student who seemingly distracted not by the rarely-seen event. She completed the previous remarks of her friend sitting on her next, in a serious-fashioned way, unbudging her four-eyes towards the pages of a book she read.

"No doubt that was came from the so-called Ancient Heroes." another male in group also joined the conversation with seemingly a brief disdainful smirk on his round face, "What an irony, isn't it? With such an overrated title, I bet that was the best they can do. Even though that was a high-level magic, if that magic was incapable of defeating an enemy, it becomes useless."

"I didn't say they aren't able to deal with the reptile." the four-eyes student, explained her further thoughts, "Given the current power they have at the moment, it is very easy for them not only to defeat but kill the Hard-to-Kill Reptile. There's must be a reason why they choose to incapacitate the creature instead."

"It is that Half-elf girl, I tell you." unexpected remarks came from that round faced male student, even for his colleagues as well. Abruptly blamed the most noticeable member of the Ancient Heroes for the incident that happened in there, "She deliberately brought that nasty creature to the most populated part of the city in order to create havoc in there."

Such an unfounded suspicion, surely kicked in some rational sense inside the mind of his other colleagues... could hardly believe what he just said, about what he just confessed, hence the rebuffing answers were to be expected.

"Aren't you being too judgemental?" asked the other male of the group, specifically designated for his skeptical friend, "While I do agree sometimes they solved some problems... harsher than normal way. But solely blaming everything on one specific individual - like she has any reason to commit such a thing."

"Historical grudges." the slanderer... the male student replied once more insensitively because he, in reality, had a solid basis that made he thought the way he was now, "Simply because our kin had eradicated her kin long time ago. This alone's enough to motivate the insidious intent."

"Once again someone who too immersed himself while reading too many historical books." the four-eyes student interrupted, in order to diminish the biases her over-judgemental colleague spreading, "It is important that we study the history, but not to bring the history to the present time. After all, that Half-elf is our senior. Sigurros is an alumnus of Ospheus University and a proud student of Professor Varen Urvisuber. She has no reason, let alone motivation to engage herself into that sort of act."

"Ah right... Professor Varen Urvisuber is your favorite, hence you insisted on defending that Half-elf, because you wanna be like her - our senior." with a heavy emphasis on the word our, the infuriating student kept on harassing the opposition verbally amongst this on-going commotion within the librarian visitors, many of whom were talking over that lightning phenomenon.

However when the discussion that happened between this group, was about to turn into more personal discussion... the other students who happened to be sat next of the speakers, were trying to prevent the unnecessary. That was before a soft yet audible yawn could be heard coming from the single desk located behind the long table at which they were sitting.

Surfacing from the sea pile of many books was that green-haired girl sitting at the corner. Displaying her short messy hair that indicated the time she had spent sleeping on her desk by placing her head between the books. Her descending eyelid began to open itself, showing her eyes that exhibited the same shade as her hair... its lower outer corners, giving only an impression of indolent stare... staring at the group before her.

"Thought library should be a quiet place." a high pitch yet soft and seemingly monotonous tone, letting out a single sentence from her thin lips which only reinforced the lethargic demeanor of hers. Even by now... after done voicing her little whine, her two hands appeared sluggishly rubbed her eyes from any leftover eye discharge. There was no need of another sentence to be exposed as the group fall silent afterwards.

Because the group found it odd that the sole green-haired girl was eventually emerged from her towering books. It grew even stranger to finally found that she was previously sleeping instead reading. Even though the policies regarding sleeping in the library weren't explicitly against it... the fact that the green-haired girl was woken up during their conversation which the existence was technically more subtle compared to that surrounding fuss caused by the prior phenomenon... they knew it had something to do with the subject matter of their little conversation.

Moreover after recognizing that green-haired girl and knowing who they were speaking to. Hence, without any further delay, one of them - the diligent-looking male student - as the represent of the four initiating the apology affirmations for having disturb her nap and if there were sensitive matters and insensitive remarks that by any mean offended her.

"Our apologies for the inconvenience my friends have caused, Miss Greenforest." the male student slightly bowed his head, showing his deep sincerity, "We will talk no more about this."

"Please... don't be too formal with me..." the green-haired girl whom they called Greenforest, was smiling instead. A languid smile yet completely genuine, voicing her same pitch voice... laziness-induced monotonous tone, "I just so... happened overheard your dialogues which honestly kinda... compelled me to wake up."

And in this exact moment, another vibration was came back crawling on the ground, followed by the shaking building. Despite the impact was less vibrant than before, it still could be indicated that the battle in the distant neighborhood had yet close to the closure. As the result, the commotion inside this building which meant to be a noiseless place, seemingly became perpetual as long as the as the repercussion still occurred.

"They're still struggling... even when nobody does... even when everybody thinks otherwise."

The green-haired girl carried on with her simple phrase while turning her head and staring at the distant scene through her window... towards a place where the previous lightning erupted,

"While the concept of heroism is too troublesome to think about... merely a title given by society, hence the definition is varies overtime. Prefer the term self-stubbornness to a high level myself."

She slowly turned her head back, staring at the four students who were still listening closely to every word that may came out from her thin lips which reluctantly moved yet voluntarily formed the same smile as she said another line of her Theaetetus,

"Therefore the compelling Theaetetus is just a matter of perception... don't you think?"
