Chapter 6 - chapter 6

He folds his arms together, 'Oh, I am deadly serious' he says as he stares me down.

I am so done with his 'king' complex. I bounce up to my feet, leaning over his desk eye level with him, 'Let's cut the bullshit Nikolai! Since when do you care whom your executives fire, let alone what small changes they make in their departments. I know how you operate and this micromanagement is the complete opposite of you.' I growl, 'You're just doing this because it's me doing this job'.

His jaw ticks and he leans even closer, we're practically a breath away from each other's faces, 'Don't be silly Jasmina, I never said that'.

I roll my eyes, 'You didn't need to, it's written all over your face'.

He says nothing and neither do I, the silence is deafening as we stare each other down.

It's in this moment that I feel a prickling of awareness tingling through my body for this evil man in front of me.

I also see a look of shock cross his face, and as quick as it was there, it was just as fast gone. So I'm not sure if that's what I saw, but it doesn't matter.

I abruptly step back from the desk, regaining my composure and smoothing down my caramel leather skirt, 'Well I guess we are done here then, I'll let Stev know that this arrangement isn't going to work out for you and we'll get another executive member to come.' I grab my black leather bag off the ground.

'Who says we are finished here?' he pointedly stares at me.

I shrug, 'I just assumed, since you didn't say anything.' I continue to grab my things.

'Sit back down Jasmina, I never said you could go!' He says in an authoritative voice.

I snap my head back at him, 'What makes you think I have to listen to you?'

He smirks at me, 'I think it's only fair seeing as how I had to sit here and listen to your rant'.

I gasp, clenching my fists to my sides, 'Me? Rant? Why you rude bas-'

Nikolai cuts me off with a wave of his hand, 'Now, now Jasmina, no need for the profanities. It's my turn to talk.'

I rest my hand on my hip and cock it to the side, 'We are clearly done here, what else is there to talk about for crying out loud?'

He flicks a piece of lint off his jacket, 'Wow I didn't know that you were such an easy quitter, I guess when the going gets tough you give up though I'd expect nothing less from a woman. I'm not sure what Stevan sees in you to be honest'.

I take a step back like he's physically struck me, 'How dare you! You don't know anything about me!'

'I do, and that is that you are a quitter! I guess you're lucky to even be working for Stevan, your future prospects are looking pretty grim from where I stand'. He shrugs in a careless manner, I feel anger pumping through my veins, and my hand itches to slap him in the face.

'I am not a quitter, I never have been and never will be. I'll have you know any company would be dying to have me among their ranks, ' I yell at him.

Fire blazes in his emerald gaze, 'Then prove it!' He smirks at me.

I slam my hands down on his table, 'I don't have to prove anything to you, but the 20k at the end of this contract is the only reason I'm staying.' I glare at him, 'You watch, it's going to be the best restructure your company has ever had, let alone experienced, by yours truly' I stab my thumb into my chest.

'Hmm...we'll see. From where I am sitting it's a lot of talk and no action', he has this triumphant look on his face, the whisper of a smile almost gracing his beautiful full lips.

I raise my chin, 'Yeah you will see, and for the record I will not be reporting my every move to you. This is how I roll and you're just going to have to deal with it!'

I don't wait for his smug reply, as I grab my things and exit his office.
