Chapter 30 - Getting In Line

Place: Palermo police station

Time: 7:00 pm.

Salvatore's voice ran out through the silent station as Chiara looked on silently. He announced a state of emergency. The sketch was plastered across News Channels and Chiara wondered for a second if this was the right thing to do.  To scare Palermo like this? It was the safest but would it scare Kore away? or just embolden her?

"The tourists are in the holding cells. " Augustus walked over.

Chiara nodded," Who were you talking to near the door?" she asked, turning to him slightly.

"A man called Enzo, said he wanted to meet you, I told him to wait outside," he said.

She rolled her eyes and nodded, before walking out to meet Enzo. Augustus stayed behind with  Constantine.

The department was in a flurry and Chiara was in way over her head. They had quickly realized that she didn't have a hold over the department, much less respect.

"You know we are going to have to step in" Augustus muttered, looking around the station as the officers stood in clusters.

"I'll handle it" Constantine sighed, It took a few calls and the office was directly under the chief commissioner's hold. Under his directions they arranged themselves. Although it was evident that they hated having to take any sort of order from Chiara. The station was divided into two. One to handle the public and carry on with the activities of the department. And the other to assist Chiara in catching Kore.

The Carabinieri was involved in the deal and the military would patrol the streets at night. It was a surety that she would be caught.

"What are you doing here?" Chiara asked," I thought you were put off the case"

"Not really just an advisor when needed but I didn't expect you to ice me out the way you did" Enzo crossed his arms.

"Yeah sorry I was distracted by murders happening," she said with a sarcastic lilt in her voice," I'm busy okay? the murders... The Americans breathing down my neck because their citizen was murdered on our soil. We have to give them results. I have to find Kore, protect the remaining tourists, and-"

"Remaining?"  he asked," I thought all had died"

"No there are few left. Can't lose them either" she sighed," I have a lot on my plate, so I didn't think of calling you"

"You also must not have any help" he shook his head.

"what do you even mean" She raised a brow.

"I mean you're not a popular officer. I can't see a single person who likes or respects you and-"

"Officer? I'm back, anything else?" Minnie walked in, barely looking at Enzo.

"Uh...yeah can you check up on that canister lead I told you about?" Chiara asked. Minnie nodded and passed a scalding glare at Enzo who seemed surprised.

Chiara watched the girl walk away and turned back to Enzo," That's officer Love... she is under me, just like half the department is. Thank you for your help in learning more about Kore but I do not need your help anymore" She said calmly and walked out.

Minnie walked up to Constantine and sat beside him," You have a bottle?" she asked.

"Yeah," he handed her a bottle of water," I'm uh...just going to get a bite to eat for myself and Augustine... want to tag along?" he asked.

"Yeah... drop me off at the hospital on the way back?" she asked.

"Sure... canister person?" he asked, and she nodded.

"The cameras show nothing so far?" she asked as they left the station after informing Chiara.

"Nothing really" he sighed," I have this weird feeling"

"Queasy?" she asked as she sat in the car.

He sat as well and sighed," yeah I just feel like... something bad is going to happen"

"Ah don't say that" she grimaced," Do you think Kore will come after us?" she asked.

"No, but I looked into the cases where she attacked groups, and she doesn't really stop"

"Well, the rest of the tourists are inside. They're protected" she shrugged," As long as they don't go out they'll be fine... We can figure out how to transport them safely later on"

"Yeah let's hope she gets caught with the patrollers" he mumbled," so what are you in the mood for?" he asked.

"Chinese," She said decidedly," I have been craving some"

"Chinese it is"

---------------------------------------------------

Shaking her leg and looking around, Bianca sighed softly to herself for what was the tenth time.

"Gosh you sound like a steam engine" Destiny groaned," what is it?" she asked.

"I have an awful feeling about this Destiny" she replied," I just feel like I shouldn't be here"

"Oh really? I am totally at home in a jail cell of a foreign country where the only word I know is Manga" she deadpanned," what are you worried about anyway? Your brother?"

"Not really, he's safe... I overheard the policeman talk about Kore. Apparently, she doesn't stop killing until she kills the entire group so... I... what if she -?"

"Shut up no, don't... don't say that" Destiny sighed and buried her face in her palms," We are in a holding cell. I think we're safe"

Bianca blinked and sat silently, leaning against the gray wall," I'm not scared" She clarified before lapsing into silence again.

Destiny looked over at her for a second, noting the slight tremble of her fingers, The girl was shit scared, but Destiny could do nothing much to assuage her fears which she herself held.

The metal door creaked open and an officer walked in with a packet of what she assumed was food. She sat up straight, attempting to push the thoughts of fear out of her mind, thinking that she could divert her focus toward the food. She realized she was hungry as the officer opened the door and walked in.

Destiny looked over at Bianca who had ignored her food and was lying down now.

"Call us after you're done" The officer mumbled and walked out of the cell. Destiny smiled and stood up to stretch her legs when she noticed the officer's face closely.

Her eyes widened as a smirk appeared on the officer's face which now was extremely familiar.

"B... Bianca" she whispered as the officer winked and walked out.

"What?" Bianca asked looking up. She noticed Destiny shivering," Wait... What happened?"

"That wasn't an officer..."
