Kenzie Hope
I woke up to the smell of pine trees and cinnamon filling the air. It surrounded everything in the room and enveloped it in a warm hug. The warmth and sparks followed the scent, bringing heaven on Earth. Nothing had ever felt so perfect. I cuddled up into the perfection, needing more of it. It pulled itself closer to me and I sighed in contentment.
Someone to the right of me coughed decently loud and I snuggled further into the source of my joy. It happened again, this time I groaned as I snuggled and someone growled lowly. Soft lips made contact with the base of my neck, making me strangle out an inhuman noise. The lips growled lowly again, but this time it was against my skin, which sent shivers down my spine.
Mate, Mate, Mate, Lexus chanted in my head. She pushed forward through the barrier of my mind, begging to be released. I denied her requested and she grumbled in response. Slowly, I began to open my eyes, but the light that greeted them was not pleasant. I groaned and pressed my head into a firm pillow.
"McKenna!" A voice I recognized as my little brother shouted a little too loud in my ear. I winced and turned towards the sound. I had to blink a few times before my vision became clear. That's when I saw the gathering of people in my room. A person behind me moved and pulled me in closer.
It was then that the situation became clear to me. Alpha Winters was behind me, cuddling my back, while there was a group of four people in the room. My brother was the first one that I saw. He was looking at me with disappointment clearly etched in his face with his arms folded. His ocean blue eyes had a hint of sadness.
Next to my brother was the doctor that had looked at my arm. Now that I could see him clearly, and not in pain, I saw that he had wrinkles scattered along his face and kind eyes that held a glint of amusement. He was definitely an older man who had years of wisdom etched into his soul.
Behind the duo of caretakers stood a man I had only seen once before in my life. The next beta, Shane Morgan, son to the current Beta, David Morgan. He was looking at Alpha Winters and I with a gleam of happiness in his eyes and a wide smile on his face. Usually, he was a scary guy with his large muscles and stone cold face. The one time I had met his, I almost peed myself from fright. Now, he looked like the kindest guy I had ever seen.
He had his left arm around girl, probably around 5'5 and maybe eighteen years old. She had a look of innocence and kindness in her face. She wore a pink floral sundress that went to just above her knees and a diamond necklace that had the letter L. She had a bright smile on her face but I couldn't fully see her because she was hidden behind Beta Morgan. Although she was hiding, there was a clear mark on her shoulder. It was two wolves looking at each other with letters, which I assumed were initials, underneath. She was the Beta Morgan's mate, meaning that soon she and Beta Shane Morgan would take their rightful titles as the Beta and Beta Female of the Winter's pack.
I looked at each person, the blush on my face getting continuously redder. I tried push myself out of Alpha's Winters's hold, but he just held on tighter. I couldn't get him off of me until I pried his arms from around me and quickly sat up so that he couldn't grasp onto me again. Looking back up to the audience, I saw large smiles on all of their faces except Brady's, who still had an apparent frown.
All of a sudden the door swung open, demanding that everyone give the intruder their full attention. It was a girl around sixteen years old with long straight black hair that went down to her mid back. She had bangs that covered her forehead and framed her face. Her green eyes reminded me of a certain Alpha's forest green orbs. She demanded a sort of attention that only alpha blood could and her stance showed the same conclusion. She was Alpha Winters's little sister. The doctor, Brady, the soon to be Beta Female, and I all bowed our heads at her before she laughed.
"C'mon guys you all know that's unnecessary," She smiled at each person individually, first, her brother, who I didn't realize was awake, then soon to be Beta Morgan. That was followed by the soon to be Beta Female, the doctor, then my little brother, who she paused on.
"Brady," She smiled to my little brother, who just bowed his head. "C'mon that's not necessary, Brady."
"Yes, Ms. Winters," He mumbled and took a step towards me and away from the other people in the room. He was scared. To the other people in the room, he probably looked completely normal, well, as normal as an omega could be with the pack's leaders in the room. Although, to me, he looked absolutely terrified. He was clutching the side of my bed and his head was down in a fashion of respect. His breathing was slightly irregular.
I took my hand from under the blanket and placed it on my brother's gripped one. He visibly relaxed and forced himself to take a deep breath. He looked at me with pleading eyes and a helpless smile. I shifted backward as far as I could until I hit a solid object. I patted the space between us and then pulled Brady to sit down next to me. He was decently small for a sixteen year old, but that was normal considering he hadn't gotten his wolf yet. Although he was due any day now.
I put my arm around his shoulders, probably really embarrassing him, but I knew he appreciated the action. He put his head on my shoulder and then I looked back up the crowd. Everyone was sitting in comfortable silence, just staring at me, which made me shift uncomfortably.
The doctor was the one who spoke first. "Hello, Luna, I'm Dr. George Martins." He stuck his hand out for me to shake.
I shook his hand while replying, "Just Kenzie, sir."
"It's Luna," A man beside me growled lowly, making Dr. Martins laugh. For the first time since last night, I looked at Alpha Winters. His entire face said that he was exhausted, except for his eyes that were bright and lively. He looked good with his tired face and messy hair.
I looked back at the doctor, not wanting to get caught staring at his beauty. The look in the doctor's eyes showed that he saw the whole ordeal. He smiled brighter at me, causing me to smile back.
"How's my sister?" Brady asked with a certain amount of seriousness in his voice. Everyone's heads snapped to him, surprised that an omega had the confidence to speak in front of the powers of the pack.
"She's doing great, Mr. Hope. Way better than to be expected at this stage. The mate bond sure does do wonders," He replied, giving me a wink. I blushed a bright red and Alpha Winters tensed up behind me. Brady shifted uncomfortably and I moved to give him a bit more room. Little did I know that Alpha Winters was almost falling off already and that movement would be the downfall. He fell of the bed with a thud, making everyone's eyes snap off of my brother and to the Alpha.
Alpha's little sister started giggling and soon the whole room, except Brady and I, joined in. Alpha Winters got up from the floor and sat on the chair that he had been on last night. His vibes put out that he was grumpy, but his face showed nothing but monotone.
When the laughter died down the doctor asked me if I had any questions, which I didn't. He told me that a nurse would be in to wrap my arm. Then, without another word, he was off to see another patient.
The room was silent, except for the occasional noise from outside that made its way into the room. The Beta couple had made their way to the sit on the couch and she was sitting on his lap. I think that made everyone just slightly uncomfortable but we understood because they we're newly mated mates. Alpha's little sister sat on the window seat, watching at the little children play out the window. Brady and Alpha didn't move, not even a muscle.
The same nurse as last night came in with a smile on her face. She looked around the room and bowed appropriately. First to Alpha Winters, then to the Beta couple. Finally she looked at me and smiled wider.
"Kenzie, how are you feeling today?" She asked. Alpha Winters growled the word Luna at her and my wolf purred in delight.
"Sorry, Luna," She mumbled bowing.
"No, no, Laura, " I told her. "It's Kenzie, please."
She smiled gratefully and then asked if she could take my vitals and wrap my arm. I nodded yes and everyone stood in uncomfortable silence as she did so. My arm didn't hurt at all, thanks to the mate bond, so I didn't understand why she was wrapping it but I didn't mention it.
She was careful wrapping my arm and every time she thought she pulled so tight, she looked at me with questioning eyes. I would give her a smile in reply and urge her to continue. When she finished, she gave me a clipboard and told me to sign. Then she informed me I was free to leave when and that I just had to have someone get her first. I smiled in reply and told her I was ready then.
Laura went out the door slightly and pulled a wheelchair into the room. She wheeled it over to me and positioned it so that I could get in. I looked at her with a 'really face'.
"It's policy," She said with an apologetic smile.
"I really don't need it," I replied and got off the bed, starting to walk towards the door. Two low growls stopped me in my tracks. The room when silent again as everyone looked back and forth from Alpha Winters and Brady. Alpha Winters couldn't look more comfortable, Brady on the other hand looked like a deer caught in headlights. He wasn't use to demanding power and that's exactly what the growl did. Brady shook off the discomfort and told me to sit, but at that exact moment, Alpha Winters did too.
"I don't need it," I said again, continuing my movements to the door.
"McKenna Daya Hope, sit your ass down," Brady commanded. I looked back at him with wide eyes, surprised at his demand, it wasn't like him to talk to me like that. Alpha Winters growled again, this time a little louder and I wasn't sure who it was directed at.
Giving into their demands, I sat in the wheelchair. Laura starting pushing me to the front of the building with the group following behind me. People in the waiting room stopped what they were doing and stared at us. I didn't blame them. It wasn't often they saw the Alpha and the Beta couple following an omega girl they had never seen.
We made it outside and she led me to my car, which I assumed Brady had driven over. I got into the passenger seat because apparently I wasn't allowed to drive for a week. Brady got into the driver's seat of the small car and began to drive away before a nice black car pulled out in front of him. Brady slammed on the breaks and shouted a string of curse words.
The window of the car unrolled, revealing an unphased Alpha Winters. "Follow me to the alpha manor." Then the window rolled back up again and drove away. Brady flipped up the retreating car and started driving in the opposite direction, mumbling about how I needed to rest in my own bed.
Something in the back of my head told me that this wouldn't end well. My wolf and I couldn't help but agree.
