Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

Kenzie Hope

I had only been home for an hour when I heard loud banging on my door. I was on the familiar fabric of the couch and the blanket my mother had crocheted strewn over me. Brady trudged from the kitchen, where he was making us sandwiches, to the door. He looked in the peephole and his face went pale. He looked back at me with wide eyes and I looked at him with curiosity.

"Open the door!" I called to him and he did as I told him. Instantly, Beta Morgan came barging in with a stone cold look on his face.

"The alpha got stuck in a meeting," He started. "I am to pack your belongings and bring you both to the alpha manor." With that, he looked behind him and a group of probably five men came tumbling through the door with boxes.

"Hey wait!" Brady called, "I didn't invite you in!"

"Brady Hope! Get your ass over here," I yelled. If he didn't get his act together and get some respect, the men of power were going to kill the both of us. He trudged over to me, clearly upset. "Knock this shit off, you're going to get us in trouble. This is the alpha we're talking about."

He nodded his head slowly and I told him to go pack up his things. The human side of me was reluctant to go along with this, but my wolf side was chaotically ecstatic. Therefore I reasoned with it, saying that it would be good to get out of this cramped apartment and be with my mate. It was bound to happen sooner or later anyway.

I got up slowly, all this yelling giving me a headache, then walked to my room. There was no one in there yet, and I was grateful. I really didn't want anyone to pack up my room, I had valuables from my parents in here. A wolf came into my room with a pile of folded boxes and tape, after putting those down on my bed, he bowed to me.

"Luna," He mumbled.

"Kenzie, please," I corrected him as I grabbed a cardboard box.

"Luna, let me," He said, softly taking the box from my hands and taping it together. Once he was finished, I grabbed the box from his hand. That was before I realized that he didn't plan on giving the box back to me. He looked at me with wide, hurt eyes, making me feel bad. I gave the box back to him and mumbled a 'sorry'. He smiled, showing me that it was okay.

He started packing up my books and I grabbed a box. I taped it together before the wolf realized. He finished packing up a box of books just as I finished taping. He placed, what I assumed was, a very heavy box in the entry way and took my taped box. He took my box to the desk and began packing up the items inside of it.

By now I was slightly frustrated and began taping another box. He took a little longer packing the desk than the books and I began packing the items from under my bed. I first packed my mother's lay down jewelry box. It was white with her name written in gold cursive on the top. Next I packed my father's photo albums. There were about three of them and they were dusty and old. Between those items, the box was full. I pulled out my father's file storage box that had all of our important documents and his old alpha documents. Putting the file box on top of the boring cardboard box, I carried them both into the hall. Well, I tried.

The wolf took them from my hands before I could take two steps. He said something along the lines of, "Let me take that for you, Luna." Then he carried my most important items to the hall. I took a sharpie from my desk and wrote CAREFUL and an arrow pointing up in big letters on the box.

I taped another box together and started to put my clothes into it. I dumped my undergarments and socks into the box, filling it up about half way. I placed my pajamas in the other half and taped the top. I continued to pack up my clothes until I felt another presence in the room. My wolf pushed at the edge of my mind, begging to take control because of the intruder. My more rational side decided to just turn around and see who was there.

When I turned around, I saw the Beta Female. In her arms was something in a large plastic bag and on her face was a large smile. She had another, older woman behind her, who was carrying a small duffel bag and a plastic bag about the same size as the Beta Female's. I was confused to say the least.

The wolf who was packing my room came in and took my two filled boxes out of the room, making my room feel that much more empty. The girls placed their bags on my bed, moving the folded boxes to the floor. The Beta Female sat on the side of my bed and patted next to her. I sat down and the other woman took the duffel bag and herself out of the room. Looking at the Beta Female, I asked her what was going on.

"Well," she started, "The Alpha and Beta both have found their mates".

"Yes?" I asked, wishing for her to get to the point. She didn't speak for a moment and the glint in her eye told me it was because she was trying to calm her excitement.

"As per tradition there is to be a ball in celebration. Since we are the to-be-female powers, we will be presented there." She squealed.

My wolf was ecstatic to be introduced as Luna to our pack. I, however, could not be more terrified. I, an omega, would have to stand up in front of the entire pack and say to them that an omega is taking one of the most respectable positions. Hell to the no.

She must have sensed my concern, but she waved it off saying, "It's nothing formal or bonding. Just a simple meet the parents kind of thing."

Little did I know it was anything but.

It took us three hours to get ready. The older woman, who I later found out was named Anna, worked on our hair and makeup as the Beta Female and I got to know each other. I learned that her named was Lily Ward and she was from the neighboring pack.

She had met Beta Morgan when he and Alpha Winters had gone to resign a pack alliance. Lily's father was there as the pack's best warrior. As tradition of the pack the Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and two warrior families sat down to eat with the foreign Alpha and Beta. This is where Lily and Beta Morgan met, in front of everyone at the table.

She asked me how Alpha Winters and I had met, but I really had no story to tell her. I mean one day, out of the blue, he just showed up in my apartment. I blacked out because I was so overwhelmed which made me late to my omega duties. Therefore I went to the cells, where I hurt my arm, and that's how I ended up in the hospital. It was simple and really there was no story to it. Nothing fancy or heart wrenching, just a surprise visit. I made a mental note to ask Alpha Winters why he was at my apartment.

Anyway, after three hours of hair, makeup, and talking, I looked at myself in the mirror. Half of my champagne colored hair was up in a high pony tail and the other half was down, all of it was shaped into elegant curls. There were some hairs pulled out around my face to accent it. My makeup was a natural, yet elegant look. I had minimal eyeshadow, which was blended from a medium brown to light brown to highlight, and winged eyeliner. She had placed subtle highlight on my cheekbones and nose, framing my face. Finally, she painted my lips a color she called rose, which was really just a matte light red. For the first time in forever, I could look in the mirror and honestly say that I though I looked pretty.

I was always insecure about my looks. Not because someone told me to be or anything like that, but because I was a fish out of water with them. I was an omega with high cheekbones and long thick hair. I had the ability to have a blemish free face and tanned skin. No other omega had any of these thing. They were short people with stick straight hair. They had round faces and pale skin. They were pretty people, but they were different looking than me, which made me embarrassed of my Alpha blood.

Anna led me back to my bedroom, which only held my empty furniture and the plastic bags that had been placed on my bed. Lily squealed in delight when she saw the bags, after opening them, I understood why. Inside were gorgeous dresses. They were dresses fit for the Queen of England.

I saw Lily's first and my jaw dropped. It was a light blue silk dress that went all the way to the floor and had a light amount of drag, even with her heels on. It had a side slit that accented her tan leg and gorgeous silver heels. The dress was off the shoulder, around the neckline it got slightly darker and was covered in beads. The same type of beads were also put around her waist to act as a sort of belt. It had light blue tulle sleeves that added to the elegance of her aura. On her head was placed a small tiara, signifying she was the to-be Beta Female.

After helping Lily get her dress on and admiring it, we pulled out mine. I didn't dare look at it until it was on. So, with my eyes closed, the three of us maneuvered the dress on until it was laced up. I didn't dare open my eyes until I felt Lily place a tiara on my head. When I finally did, I was at a loss for words.

It was a burgundy ball gown. That, like Lily's, went all the way to the floor, but mine had a train of at least three feet. It had a V-neck outline that somehow made my collar bones look good. Lace covered my body from the waist higher, making me seem like a princess. From my waist down, satin flowed elegantly down. Like Lily's it had a long side slit, accenting my leg. I had long sleeves, made up of lace and tulle elegantly fell down. The tiara that was placed on top of my head was no less that elegant either. It glowed in the dim light of my room and it demanded attention.

I put on heels and it felt like I nearly doubled my height, but in reality it was just three more inches. They were black heels with open toes and I thanked the Moon Goddess that Anna had remembered to paint our toenails. I looked in the mirror at myself in astonishment. I had never looked like this before in my life. Although, I still felt like I was missing something.

It wasn't until we were moving out the door that I remember what it was.

I looked back into my apartment, that was nothing but boxes now, when I saw the box I had marked CAREFUL. Quickly, I walked back into the apartment, my heels clicking with every step. After opening the box, I carefully took out my mother's jewelry box. Inside laid what I was looking for.

First, there was an elegant diamond leaf design necklace and matching bracelet that my dad had bought my mom when they had first met and he still had money. They were probably the most expensive things that I owned and even rivaled the tiara for attention. Next, I pulled out a ring my father had saved up for years to buy my mother. It matched the leaf design and the diamonds formed a subtle leaf. I was surprised to learn they were not all a set, that's how well they went together. Finally, I took out diamond tangle earrings, also ones that my father had saved up to buy.

I put on the items and quickly felt the weight of all the money I was wearing. I almost took them off, but I felt a surge of confidence course through my body, whether it was my wolf or my parents, I'm not sure. The only thing I knew for sure was that I was ready.
