ALVAH'S POV
The mood at the table today was more of what you'd expect at a funeral than at a gathering of friends having a meal together. Max' s words were slitting across all Nate's attempts to reach out to him. So they hadn't worked out their issues. Nate on the other hand was dodging all questions from Ruby to find out what he had been up to.
" oh, nothing colourful to be honest. " was Nate's brief answer.
" Hey, I missed you. You have been scarce around here okay, I just want to catch up. " Nate refused to look up from his plate into Ruby's hope filled eyes. The sparkle in them was literally on a ticking clock and in no time she'd be completely knocked off. His jaw clenched tightly, containing the words that Emi was feeding him to speak at the moment between his teeth. "What about the weekend, what happened then. Were you with Max?"
