Chapter 23 :
Victoria stared at the children playing in the garden.
The sight was truly amazing. Ciro and Emma came to her room early this morning pleading for her to throw them a get-together party so that they could show off to their schoolmates and friends, how big their house was.
If it were any other day and Victoria heard them say that, she would've scolded them and sent them to do a bit of reflection.
Her mind was going haywire at the moment, and she felt oppressed by the vague sense of impending calamity.
She knew she couldn't do anything but the two choices she gave herself, one is to wait and find out whatever it was that her boyfriend is keeping from her, or the second option which was to conduct her own investigation and find out his ugly truth.
Victoria felt torn inside. She just wanted to continue living her dream life with her kids and Axel, but at the same time.
She just wanted to investigate and see if there's anything that her boyfriend has not told her already. Although the sudden thought of that didn't suddenly develop out of thin air.
The thought came into her head-better yet, she started to suspect him when she received that anonymous e-mail about a week ago, basically saying that's if you exclude all the cryptic messages that it contained, 'How much do you really know about him?' was all it said.
She knows what she was planning to do went against every lesson that her grandmother instilled in her. She looked out at the sky through her room window and whispered while placing her hand on her grandmother's ring, which she attached to her necklace.
"I'm sorry Grandma, but I-I have to know... Love you."
Her voice was now on the brink of breaking, and she hated it. Ever since from she was young she hated vulnerability, she hated how it made others looked weak.
"Mother, come on!" she heard Emma from the garden, looking down she saw Emma and the kids gesturing for her to come down and some of their parents waving to her.
She almost laughed when she saw her cousin who yesterday told her that he was in love, was now talking to another girl, her son's best friend's mother at that.
She was about to go downstairs when her phone started to ring suddenly, answering the phone she greeted, "Victoria Jamespell, how may I help you?"
Her family says that her way of answering a phone is very old school, but to Victoria, she felt that it shows that she just has a bit more standards than them.
"Hi Victoria, you may not remember me but...I'm your best friend!" greeted Laura in the same tone as Victoria, before raising it at the end.
Victoria rolled her eyes, it's not because she wasn't happy to speak to Laura, but her mind wasn't focusing on anything right now.
"Hey Laurs, what are doing right now?" asked Victoria as she tried to imitate the curiosity in her voice.
" Oh... nothing much you know, so how's Axel?" Laura queried as her voice suddenly went up a pitch.
Victoria furrowed her eyebrows in confusion before responding," Honestly I'm not sure, he hasn't been home lately... why are you asking?."
Laura immediately responded," It's nothing serious...it's just that he promised me that he would come by today."
Victoria arched her brows at Laura's poor excuse. She couldn't believe that her best friend for over eighteen years would do this to her.
Laura knew that Victoria was not a fan of misinformation. So, she decided that she would have a bit of fun with Victoria for a while even if it breaks their friendship for while she knows that she had her own reasons and that Victoria was going to thank her in the long run.
Laura knows that her best friend is a stubborn girl and it would take more than five essays for Victoria to forgive her. And broke her heart when she heard the sadness in Victoria's voice when she asked her.
"Why do you start now, Laurs?"
She knew that right there Victoria considered them strangers, well maybe she was exaggerating a little, but Victoria cried a lot.
The way she cried made it sound like the world was ending, and it probably was going to happen tomorrow when the world hears what's going on right beneath her nose.
'This is the best way to protect her and get revenge at the same time,' she thought.
Victoria sat on her rocking chair with both Emma and Ciro asleep in her lap as she rocked them. They came up to her running as she was crying. Complaining that she took forever to meet their friends, and both started crying, saying that their reputation was ruined.
Along with something on the line about how no one wanted to give them what they wanted. This somehow turned into Victoria rocking them while stroking their hair and suddenly decided singing to them the same lullaby that she sang to them when they were in her belly.
Marlos and the stranger both sat in shock at the office watching and listening to the conversation between Axel and the president. That was of the curse after the tragedy.
They'd sent one of their agents to plant a tracking device somewhere in Axel's car and now they both seeing the devastating accident.
They were honestly confused and the same. At one moment they were seeing Axel and the president laughing and talking, and now both of them were in the car that was turned upside down.
Marlos quickly grabbed his phone and called his emergency squad, barking his orders to them while nodding towards the stranger. That was basically his way of saying that the stranger was going to the site of the accident.
Taking up his coat, the stranger saluted his boss and sprinted down the hall, 'Shit... Why did this have to happen?' the stranger asked himself.
He knew that his boss was anxious about the outcome of this situation and so was he, but he was going to do his own brief investigation.
