Chapter 29 - "We're Sorry For Your Lost."

Chapter 29 :

The doctor frowned as she read the information that the piece of paper that she held.

'How could this be?' thought the doctor as she stood in the middle of the room. She really could not understand.

The results of Victoria's blood test had just returned, and the results were very shocking. Victoria was pregnant.

Which was shocking, because if your baby's temperature drops below 97.7 °F (36.5 °C), then they're diagnosed as having hypothermia, or low body temperature?

A low body temperature in babies can be dangerous, and, though rare, may lead to death. And when Victoria came here, she was literally blue, well a palish blue.

The doctor didn't bother to check Victoria's temperature, she could tell from the temperature of Victoria's skin, that it was way below 36.5 °C.

And from that alone, she and the baby could have died.

'Seems like I have to check if that baby has a heartbeat,' thought the doctor as gestured to the nurse that was standing by the door to come to her.

"I need you to get Doctor Stewart in here now," she instructed.

She saw the nurse opening and closing his mouth as if he wanted to say something.

Giving him a death glare, before asking, "What is it now?"

"W-Well...Umm, Doctor Stewart told me to inform you he's busy," replied the nurse nervously.

Cocking her head to the side she asked, "Doing what?" and at this point, Doctor Louise was getting frustrated. 'He always does this,' she thought as she ran her hand through her hair.

'Well, it seems like I'm working on my own,' she thought while shrugging.

Pointing towards the door Louise said, "Oh well, you can go" she started, and watched as the nurse scurried towards the door. "Wait," she called out, causing the nurse to pause in front of the door.

Letting out a sigh, Louise asked, "Do you wanna help?"

Louise patted herself proudly on the back when she saw the gigantic smile on the nurse's face. She had always been the type of girl to order people around instead of asking for help, and although she did not ask the nurse the right way. He still agreed.

"Follow me, we're going to the room of patient 617," announced Louise as she walked through the door with the nurse following after.

"M-May I ask why are we going there," stuttered the nurse as he nervously scratched the back of his neck.

"Because she's the one we're going to examine on," Explained Louise as looked at her watch. "Hurry, we're running late," said Louise as she increased her pace.

Twenty minutes later, both Louise and the nurse were in the examination room. Louise thought it was much easier to just have someone bring Victoria to the examination room than them moving back and forth from Victoria's room to the examination room.

They had completed almost all of their examinations, except one which was to conduct an ultrasound. Squirting the gel on Victoria's belly, Louise then used the transducer to rub the gel all over Victoria's belly.

And basically how this works is that the gel helps transmit the sound waves from the transducer into your body. The sound waves bounce off bodily structures and the baby. This may sound a bit nerdy to you right now, but at least you got to understand.

Louise then heard the sound of a heartbeat filling the air and thought 'Well at least we now know that the baby is exactly two months or over.'

Looking at the screen, Louise nearly dropped the transducer on the ground when she saw two tiny dots. A feeling of sadness rushed through her as she realized that Victoria was supposed to be having twins.

"Why are we hearing only one heartbeat if two fetuses are showing on the screen?" asked the nurse while wearing a confused expression on his face.

Turning towards the nurse, Louise place a hand on his shoulder and informed, "That's because she lost a baby", "Come on, we need to inform the person who brought her here," announced Louise in a somewhat excited voice.

Taking one last look at the screen, the nurse shook his head sadly before walking out the door.

The stranger sat in a chair right by the receptionist's desk, with a cup of coffee in his hand. He was enjoying the receptionist's company.

"And so my mom was like, boy, are you out of your god-damn mind," explained the receptionist. "Do I look like a fool to you? I know you took my cupcake," continued the receptionist while laughing.

The stranger laughed while saying, "You were such a troublemaker when you were young."

"You be I was, and I still am," agreed the receptionist while laughing, before he stopped and said, "I wonder how that poor girl is doing right now."

"Hmm... she'll pull through," said the stranger, hoping that it could assure him more than the receptionist.

"You know, that's how my dad died," announced the receptionist, causing the stranger to look at him in shock, "Wait really?" he asked before shaking his head and continuing, "Uh... I meant sorry for your loss."

The receptionist gave the stranger a weird look before saying, "You aren't good at being sympathetic, so stop trying to act like shit you are not."

The stranger gave the receptionist an embarrassed smile and asked, "How did you know?"

"Really? you're asking me that?" asked the receptionist, "Well, your face gave you away."

"What?" asked the stranger while turning around in his seat, trying to get comfortable.

"Your face gave you away," repeated the receptionist, "You had this grimace on your face while you were trying to sympathize."

'You little shit' thought the stranger as he ran his hand down his face, 'You made someone who's not a part of the E.A.S.O., I might add to identify the area that you're weak in....pathetic' chastised his subconscious.

'I know,' he thought.

The stranger heard footsteps coming to where he was, "Hey Louise" he heard the receptionist said. 'That's the girl doctor,' he thought as he quickly jumped out of his seat.

He saw the doctor giving him a pitiful expression before saying, "We're sorry for your lost."
