Walking down the hill, she interlocked her fingers with his. She was in a simple cotton dress and her pony tail flowed behind her. Her makeup was applied lightly. She turned to look at the man beside her. He smiled up at her sweetly, that cute dimples teasing his cheeks. He has a black hair and a bright brown eyes. He is at least 6'4", maybe taller. He bent over and whispered in her ears, "Thank you for completing me."
Eight years ago, Rachel was working on a farm, a sugar cane farm. She was only 10 years then but had started working with her parents on the farm. "Ouch" a sugar cane stick landed on her face. She turned and saw a young boy of about 12 years.
She said aloud, "Hey, why did you do that?"
"Like I care" he said scornfully.
"Who do you think you are?"
"My father is the owner of this farm you are working on"
"What! You are Chad?" she was speechless.
She has heard a lot about Chad but has never met him in person.
"So you don't know. How many years have you been living here?"
"Almost..."
"Never mind. It's boring talking to you." he immediately cut her off and left without allowing her to complete her sentence.
"Why is he so arrogant? Is it because he is Chad Torres?" She thought.
Later on, they bumped into each other again.
"Oh so we meet again. I don't even know you name, mere worker"
"Rachel, Rachel is my name" she immediately corrected him
"Oh Rachel, am just used to calling you mere worker" he laughed coldly
"Did your mother not teach you how to respect others" she glared at him
"Oh mere worker, are you angry already?" he sneered
"I don't have your time" she walked pass him but he was fast, he grabbed her arm and pushed her to the ground.
"But I have your time now so let's have fun a little"
"You are..." before she could finish her sentence, the sky darker abruptly and it started raining cats and dogs. They ran into a shade to protect themselves for the heavy rain.
He removed his jacket and placed it on her shoulder, "Take this". She wanted to push it away but he immediately added, "You will die of cold If you don't cover yourself. My family won't even attend your funeral"
"Dont worry, I won't die. I eat a lot of nutritious food while you eat junks" she rolled her eyes at him.
"Okay, am sorry" he apologized
she froze, "Is this arrogant, rich, spoiled brat apologizing to me?" she thought
"Sleep on the bench while I sleep on the floor. The floor will be too cold for you" he smiled at her. A tiny dimples appeared on his cheeks. This was the first time he smiled at anybody expect from his parents. He did not even smile at the maids at his house or any of his family members. Is he that arrogant?.
"Wait, are you not suppose to sleep on the bench even though it is not like your soft bed at home"
"I don't want you to curse me when you have cold"
"You should smile every day. You look more handsome when you smile" she could not believe that that arrogant person is now puppy dog cute.
He flicked her head and said, "I do smile but to human and remember I did not smile at you"
Huh? Was he saying that she is not human? How rude!
Rubbing her forehead, "But you smiled at me?"
"Just go and sleep. This rain won't stop until tomorrow"
She knitted her brows, "Aha, what about my parents?"
"You can go if you want to" he answered coldly
She bit her lower lip, "But I will have to walk in the rain and I don't want to catch cold and also my house is five miles away from here"
"Then stay and shut up. You are giving me headache" he shouted at her angrily and she kept shut not wanting to provoke Chad.
She lie down on the bench while he sat on the floor. She continued to look at the handsome creature sitting right in front of her. His eyes met hers and her eyes immediately flicker away.
"What were you staring at?" he demanded
"Nothing" she said and buried her head in her chest. Soon she fell asleep.
Next morning...
The hoarse voice coming from outside woke them up. He slowly opened his eyes and saw his mother coming inside the shade.
"Chad my son, what are you doing here?" she ran to him, caressed his face then lifted him up.
"We have been looking for you since yesterday" she added.
"Mom am sorry, it rained heavily yesterday so I couldn't come home" he explained
"You should have given me a call" she said with a worried voice
"I don't just want to disturb you" he smiled at her
"Okay, let's go" she walked towards the Mercedes maybach car not looking at who was sitting on the bench
"Mom wait" she stopped in her tracks.
"Can you please take her home?" he asked and pointed at Rachel.
She glared at Rachel, "Who is she?"
"Her name is Rachel. She is a worker here"
"Are you guys friends?"
He turned to look at Rachel and replied, "No"
"OK but..."
"No buts mom. Please do it for me" he pleaded
"Okay" she agreed unwillingly
Rachel immediately stood up from the bench and quietly followed them to the car
"This is where I live" she said pointing at the small, old house near the river.
"Okay, stop the car" Mrs Torres instructed
The car was stopped and she got down. Chad immediately followed her.
"Rachel, you are back!" her mother ran to her when she saw her daughter.
"What happened?"
"I will explain things to you later" she turned and looked at Chad, "Thanks for your jacket. You can have it back"
Chad immediately shook his head, "No, you have to wash it and give it back to me when we meet again"
Meet again? Was he trying to say the next time they meet? No way!
She turned to leave but immediately stopped in her tracks and turned, "Chad, thank you" she turned and left immediately without allowing him to speak
That was how their love started.
