Chereads / Reincarnated as a Glutton(Ended) / Chapter 2 - 1- Waking up

Chapter 2 - 1- Waking up

The scent of grass was overwhelming, almost like it was straight up his nose... "Hnnng... Hachoo!" Kael shot up, sneezing loudly from the stalk of grass that had tickled the inside of his nostrils, confused. "The hell..? There's definitely not any grass in my bed. Or on my street honestly." He rubbed his groggy eyes slowly, noticing something strange once the sleep had left them. He was surrounded by thick trees and golden yellow leaves, looking almost like fall back home in the park.

"Where am I? I just remember that evil looking girl and a whole lot of blackness...." Standing up, he checked himself out, his clothing looking pretty similar to his normal outfit. Though, it looks like he's definitely more healthy, his skin back to a normal tone and his bones not showing through as much. Looking around, he saw nothing but forest and rocks, leaving him dumbfounded.

"Oooh...Kay. Well, let's figure this out. Creepy girl? Probably a devil. Me? I think I died. And this place? Definitely not my bedroom." As he was walking around the tiny gap between the trees he had found himself in, he noticed a small blue box had popped up out of the corner of his eye.

[Notice: Player Kael has been transported. System assigning status, please announce Menu to begin.]

"Huh, looks like she wasn't kidding. Well, better start. Menu!" He wasn't sure how loud to say it, so he barked it out like an order. This wasn't really his strong point. Then, the screen shot up in front of him, just like the Valhalla status menu.

Analyze(Lv1)

"Ehh.... only one for everything but dexterity..? I guess that's fair. I didn't do much else aside from gaming. Analyze sounds kinda straightforward, but that other skill is worrisome."

He scratched his head a bit, thinking to himself. If his dex was high, he could likely be much better at setting a trap to get food. He only had so much experience with it, so he settled for trying to find water. On the way to what he thought was a hill, he picked up a few sticks and rocks to use later as a campfire. "These seem useless but they might just save me.. hmm."

[Access Inventory? Y/N]

He jumped with joy, almost! An inventory is exactly what he needed right now, he was way too scrawny to carry all this for long. Tapping the yes button after he set his "loot" down, he started to stuff the sticks and rocks into the inventory box menu, gladly taking the weight off himself. "That's way too convenient, but I'm not gonna complain!"

He couldn't tell yet, but he was being stalked, a slender, humanoid shape following him from the canopy. The shape let out the smallest of gasps watching the strange human access the [Inventory], a skill very few in this world still had. Oblivious, Kael finally stumbled across a spring where he could set up a camp, trying his best to make a small pit and line it with stones for a fire. He then stared at the clear water, searching for fish or something else he could try to roast, even though he only had rocks to sharpen a stick with.

"Wait a second, this is where that Analyze would probably come in really handy!" He exclaimed to no one in particular, before turning to the small pool closest to him. "Analyze."

[Analyzing. Complete- Status: Pool of spring water. Potable. Entities detected: 1.

Name: Lesser Crawdad. Analyze too weak to determine stats.]

"Well that sucked. I better try and grab it at least..." He climbed to the edge of the pool, looking for this "Lesser Crawdad." What greeted him was a crayfish the size of a small lobster, with wicked looking jagged pincers and a mean glare. "Yeesh! That thing is a monster alright... but how to kill it?"

[Equipment: None. Item detected: Wooden spear. Equip? Y/N]

Blinking at the sudden prompt, he tapped the Yes selection and felt the weight of the crude wooden stick spear he had made to roast a fish on appear in his hand from his inventory.

"Hey! That's not bad. Wonder if I could kill it though..." He hefted the spear, the stick unbalanced and crooked, but it was better than bare hands. Cocking his arm back, he let out a sharp "Yah!" And stabbed the stick into the side of the crustacean.

[L. Crawdad took 4 damage. L. Crawdad is annoyed.]

The creature started to froth at the mouth like a crab and scuttled towards him, snapping the jagged looking pincers the whole time.

"Ah shit, I pissed it off!" He took a few more stabs, each time a ping sounding as he chipped away at its HP. It was remarkably fast, snapping its claw at his leg and sinking the jagged edges into his flesh. Needless to say, it hurt like hell.

[Player has taken 4 HP. 6/10 remains.]

"Holy shit! Something this small can almost kill me? How unfair is this!" He cried out in mild pain and protest, starting to slam on the monster wildly with the stick. Suddenly, a ding sounded in his head.

[Lesser Crawdad slain. Player has gained a level. Consume Lesser Crawdad for a chance to gain a skill.]

"Hahhh... damn! That thing was almost not worth it, I should have thought more before hitting it with a stick..." He read the notification with a look of shock, seeing a free stat point pop into his menu. He instantly put it into strength without thinking, making his muscles ever so slightly increase as he stuck the dead crustacean into his campfire, letting the meat inside roast.

"I wonder what skill I could possibly get from something like this...?" He reluctantly snapped off a piping hot claw, the blue now red and the system stating that he had cooked the meat to edible levels. As he went to eat the tender meat from its claw, someone fell from the tree behind him with a bang.
