Chapter 5 - Chapter 4: On A Team With Potential

MIHO

Sasuke walked me to the Academy as usual. We said nothing to each other, but I could see that he was not uncomfortable as his shoulders were relaxed and not tense. It made me happy to know that, making my heart feel giddy inside like one hundred butterflies flying in my chest.

"You dumbass!" A shrill voice roared angrily. I turned my head to find a girl with short ebony black hair, behind thick-rimmed glasses violet eyes burning in fury with slightly tanned skin.

I, like a scared mouse, hid behind Sasuke from this girl's fury that looked as though she would kill anyone in the building. Sasuke groaned in annoyance as I did, but didn't shove me away for hiding behind him. Like a beast in anger, she whips her head over towards us. She storms over like a dragon about to spit fire. "Have you seen a little worm around here?" She asked bitterly, and I instantly shook my head. "No," I stammered in a shaking voice, small and fearful.

"Does this worm have a name?" Sasuke asked just as bitterly as her, his onyx eyes glaring at her in annoyance. The girl rolls her eyes. "Ren Suzuki," she snapped, "He stole my notes and used it! I know he did!" My eyes widened a little at the mention of Ren. What did he use her notes for? She's from a different class, so they're learning things differently. Why would he need them? My questions were about to be answered when I saw Ren creeping stealthily away. Well, he tried, but the girl had spotted him right away.

Ren had an 'oh shit' look spread all over his face as the girl stomped towards him. "You worm," She snarled, "Give me back my notes!" Ren was about to book it when she snatched the collar of his shirt and yanked him back. "Give them back to me, NOW!" Ren gave her a cheeky grin as he wiggles out of his shirt and slips out, his bare chest on full display. "If I am a worm as you say," said Ren in a cocky tone, "Then I can do this, so, so long, Kaida!" Ren rushed out like his life depended on it- which it might have, as the girl tosses the shirt away angrily and runs after him.

"GIVE THEM BACK, YOU DUMBASS!"

I poked my head out from behind Sasuke, and he simply grunted. "Whatever," he said, "Come on, Miho, we'll be late for a class soon." I nodded as he went with me to class. The class was full of chatter and Naruto was there too. Wait, I- hold on- I thought he didn't pass... hold up, did Iruka- Sensei let him retake it or something? Was there a retake for a better score I did not know about?

Naruto was boasting about passing to our classmate Shikamaru Nara, who only rolled his eyes and said, "What drag" as usual before he went to napping at his seat next to his best friend, Choji Akimichi, who munched on some barbecue chips that made my mouth drool inside my mouth. I shook my head, a scowl on my face.

'No, no, NO! Bad Miho! You're on a diet! You're better than this!' I told myself scoldingly.

My stomach growled irritably like a loud roar.

My face immediately flushed red from embarrassment, now covering my stomach with my arms. I then reached into my bag to find I packed a banana. Better than nothing. So as Iruka- Sensei droned on and on about how we graduated and should be proud of ourselves, I nibbled on my banana until the peel was remaining. Then, he went on to announce our teams, which had me perk up in my seat eagerly.

Teams went by as quickly as they were called. I was sad to find out that Sasuke nor Naruto would be on my team. "Team thirteen," said Iruka- Sensei, reading the names from a small clipboard. "Kaida Ryōma, Ren Suzuki and Miho Kojima." As soon as Iruka- Sensei finished his sentence, Kaida flew out of her seat angrily. "WHAT!" She roared, her furious glare burning holes into Iruka- Sensei's skull, causing Iruka- Sensei to become flustered in a panic. "K- Kaida, please calm-!" He was then interrupted by her.

"I won't be placed on a team with him!" Her fury was not to be meddled with from what I have observed-- duly noted. Ren clicks his tongue at her but then gives me a warm smile. I turned to see Sasuke shoot Ren a glare. It is probably for making Kaida upset and disturbing the peace of the classroom. That's likely it. Ren now smirks at Kaida, who continues to glare at him. "Sorry, Kai- chan," he said, "You're stuck with me now."

"BULLSHIT!" Kaida shouted furiously, glaring.

"LANGUAGE, KAIDA," Iruka- Sensei scolds.

Ren snickers. "Yeah, language, Kai- chan," he said. There was practically steam blowing out of her ears from dander. "Ren, please, stop," I told him softly. He heard me and huffed, taking his seat next to me. Ren turned his eyes to me and I gave him a small smile. We both redirected our gaze to the front. Iruka- Sensei already looked worn out from all this commotion- not even including team seven. When Iruka- Sensei was done, it was time to meet our brand new Sensei.

We were told our Sensei was outside where the swing was. When we rushed out, I saw a very beautiful woman with hair like fire and eyes an ocean blue. She was in a green vest, black short-sleeved shirt; black sweatpants, headband on her waist with blue sandals. She gave us a bright, goofy grin. "Hey, kiddos!" She waves us over and we hesitantly sit in front of her. "I'm Sana Uzumaki, also I'm your Sensei but that's not very important," she rambled, waving her hand around as she laughed. "What is, is getting to know you guys!" I shifted on the green blanket.

"Okay," she said loudly, clapping her hands, "I will go first!" Her giddy and upbeat attitude had me feel at ease yet uncomfortable at the same time, which was odd. "I'm Sana Uzumaki- as you are already aware! I like dango, my boyfriend, going to the bookstore, my pup Mya and restaurant ramen. What I hate is snow, snakes, bugs, loosing and when it's too damn hot out!"

"Profanity, Sana- Sensei," Ren said foxily. Our new Sensei, Sana- Sensei, shot Ren an irked look from her blue eyes. "Hush, child," she crawled off of the swing and covered his mouth in a matter of seconds, making my eyes widen. "You heard nothing." Ren nodded, allowing Sana- Sensei to uncover his mouth. He didn't say anything after that incident. "My dream is to... ah, shit, I for- oh wait! I got it, now. It's to be the best ninja for this village I can be!" She was back on the swing like the speed of light, continuing where she left off. I chewed down on my bottom lip nervously.

Sana- Sensei pointed her index finger at Ren. "It is your turn now, trouble maker!" She told him. I almost giggled at how dramatic and dorky our new Sensei was. I liked it. Ren was laid back on the trunk of the tree, his brown eyes looking at her. "I'm Ren Suzuki," he introduced coolly, "I like drawing, pranking with Naruto sometimes, miso soup and gardening. I hate cockroaches, an overbearing amount of sugar, heat, and swimming. My dream?" He went into musing for a minute before he said, "To marry a nice girl and settle down here in Konogakūre as a Dad and artist." The surprise on Sana- Sensei's face was absolutely priceless. Her eyes were wide in a daze.

"I- wow," Sana- Sensei stuttered over her words from the momentary shock. "Okay, next, the she-dragon." Kaida adjusted her thick-rimmed glasses on her face. "I'm Kaida Ryōma. I like fire, sweets, training, cats, blacksmithing, and cooking. I hate the rain, reading, studying and snakes. My dream is to take back my clan's land from the South who took everything from me." It was a blunt way of introducing herself, but Sana- Sensei didn't seem to mind too much from the blank look on her face. "Okay, then," Sana- Sensei said, then turned her head towards me with a bright smile. "How 'bout you, shy gal?" I shifted on the green blanket of grass, becoming nervous from so much attention being all on me.

I gulped before saying, "I'm Miho-"

"Speak up, sweetie, I can't hear you," said Sana- Sensei. I pursued my lips into a flat line before raising my voice. "I'm Miho Kojima! I like books, learning history, sweets, tea, learning and walking on trails. I hate... not much, I... don't like bitter foods very much, nor do I like conflict too much either amongst friends. My dream is..."

I paused for a second, then locked my gaze onto my new Sensei's. "To overcome the fate that was decided for me and make my own fate." This made Sana- Sensei's eyebrows perk up from intrigue. Yet she didn't pry, as she said, "Well, you kiddos are all swell little creatures!" She clapped her hands as she got up. "I can't wait to do this test my boyfriend told me about. So, I'm gonna just give it to you kiddos straight." Sana- Sensei gestured for us to get up. So, all of us did.

Sana- Sensei then explained how sixty- six percent of students will be sent back to the good 'ol Academy if they fail this test she is going to give us tomorrow morning at the crack of dawn.

We all departed with heavy hearts (except Sana- Sensei) and I saw Sasuke walking in the street just ahead of me, his hands stuck in the pockets of his white shorts. "Sasuke- kun," I raced after him in a desperate attempt to catch up with him, which I eventually did. "Miho?" Slightly out of breath yet smiling, I nodded, still trying to regain my breath again. "Hi Sasuke- kun," I said, still out of breath from that little workout. "How was meeting your new team and Sensei?" He let out a long sigh. "Boring. The Sensei is a weirdo and Naruto won't ever shut up. Sakura is just..." he shivered for some reason, goosebumps now rising on his arms. Sasuke was being so dramatic.

I giggled at this, which made him look at me then click his tongue. "I'm sure you'll adjust to them sooner or later, Sasuke- kun," I replied, kicking a pebble with my sandal. "Naruto is a good friend once you know him and Sakura is a really sweet person. I'm sure you'll like her." My heart dropped at my own words like a hammer just hit my heart. She's pretty and smart. He will like her soon. I know he will. He'll forget all about me and be with her. I'll always be his friend.

Always. I will because that's what friends are for.

I did my daily routine as usual, before hopping into bed. I took some sleeping chamomile tea in order to fall asleep quicker. My eyelids grew heavy like lead and soon, I saw Enjū once again.

The firebird, Enjū, then spoke. 'Are you prepared?'

I nodded, fear grabbing my heart but courage took my tongue. "I'm ready for every hell, Enjū."

The bird in flames screeched. 'Then let us begin!'
